I'm two weeks from Moderna dose 2, which means right now I'm near maximum protection from Moderna dose 1.

Pfizer has now requested an emergency use authorization for its vaccine for 12-15 year olds, so hopefully thatll get approved by the time supply is outpacing demand with vaccines open to all adults

I'm registered! Supposed to get J&J next week since that's what they're offering.

My sister is giving me shit because "that's the bad vaccine". I'll take whatever I can get and I'd rather get the "less effective" vaccine now rather than have to wait another week or two or who knows to get Pfizer or Moderna.

The faster everyone gets some vaccination, the quicker shit can go back to "normal".

Someone told me that the J&J one is actually going to be the best one in the long run. Something about the way your system handles it or something. Idk they sounded much smarter than I could portray lmao.

The Pfizer/Moderna vaccines are pretty clearly better than J&J, but J&J is a lot better than nothing. If I was unvaccinated and offered J&J I'd probably wait a short period of time if I was guaranteed to be able to get an mRNA vaccine instead (like maybe a week or two), but otherwise I'd take it and look into getting one of the other ones in a few months after everyone else had had an opportunity to be vaccinated.

Just get the fucking vaccine as early as you can. Do not pick and choose.

We know we're going to need boosters for all of them eventually. Fill the earliest appointment you can make.

By the way, has anyone checked on Florida lately? Texas? Sweden? Wasnt there supposed to be a bunch of spikes in cases?

According to worldofmeters.info, yesterday Florida had the second largest number of new cases (7,121) in the United States, behind Michigan (EDIT: whoops, third largest number. New York is #1).

Currently active cases, Florida is #4 at 457,132.

Texas and Florida are #2 and #3 in total number of coronavirus cases over the course of the pandemic, at 2,826,457 and 2,111,807 respectively.

Sweden is either in a "second wave" or still in their first wave depending on your perspective. They're at 7,760 daily cases currently. Their high came on December 23, 2020, where they had 11,376 cases.

Prefer waiting a week or two and getting 95+% efficacy personally. The mRNA vaccines seem to be the future and just simply better.

Then if you are religious you possibly have moral objections to it as well, but that's not a concern of mine.

I just prefer what studies consistently show as being better.

Im still months and months away from even being eligible for the waiting list because Canada sucks

the vaccines are roughly parallel, I was going to wait for Moderna until I read up on the studies.

I definitely had a bad day after getting mine, 100+ fever and felt like the flu for like 8 hours and then just felt fine and slept like a baby the next night.

I feel like in America were going to start seeing news about people refusing the vaccine and supply growing in certain areas.

the only reason I was able to get vaccinated so early is because Alabama was doing such a poor job getting their 70+ overs vaccinated that they had to open it up to teachers early

Yeah a lot of the difference is that the mRNA vaccines were undergoing large trials in an environment where covid was less prevalent and we had less virulent variants.

I got the Pfizer.

I felt pretty tired and low a couple of days afterwards, but didn't throw up or have the fever or anything.

That accounts for some difference, but not all of it. Pfizers newest data still has it being over 90% effective even with variants now prevalent:

Got my first shot two days ago. Arm still hurts a little, but thats all I experienced. It was Moderna and I didnt know which it would be until I got it. Hope the second one next month also has no side effects for me

Im a big fan of the mRNA vaccines so if you prefer those, thats great.

Recommending a pause on using the vaccine is insane though. This is literally a (slightly) less than one in a million occurrence even if the clots really were caused by the vaccine. Delaying the doses for a few weeks while they figure it out, on the other hand, will surely mean many more than a handful of preventable deaths do, in fact, occur.

I'm scheduled for J&J on Friday. If they don't cancel or I find a chance to get one of the 2-shot vaccines, I can't see why I wouldn't just go ahead. It's literally a 1 in a million issue. I'm sure there's the same type of very rare complications in almost any shot you get, COVID or otherwise.

The risk of blood clots from freakin birth control is like 1 in 1000 and they hand it out like candy. Kinda crazy theyd stop using it all together. My hospital system annoyed today they were stopping for the foreseeable future. I mean Im glad theyre taking it seriously but ehh

There likely is a causal link just like with the AZ/Oxford vaccine since both use adenovirus vectors, but the risk is specifically contained to one demographic. These clots are on average far more serious than the ones associated with birth control so it's a question of tradeoff of risk to very specific demographics.

COVID is certainly still more deadly even to the 18-48 demographic of women, but it's less of a difference than with other demographics. I really hope they can resolve this and resume before the end of the week with updated guidelines and just give a different vaccine to anyone for whom there's a contraindication. Also hopefully with more specificity than "all women under 50."

It's funny how the same people saying "I told you so" about a potential .00001% chance of blood clots in the vaccine are the same people who kept on saying that the 1% death rate of COVID was so low we shouldnt be worrying about it.

It's now about 24 hours since I got my first dose.

I was a bit sleep deprived when I got my shot thanks to insomnia, and then I oscillated between feeling okay and feeling awful the rest of the day. I can't actually say how much was related to lack of sleep and how much was the vaccine. My left deltoid got stiff and sore, but nothing too bad.

Then I slept 9 hours last night and all that's left is a little ache in the shoulder.

Second dose side effects started at about 9 hours and lasted for about 30 hours.

Feel great now though. Less than two weeks til I can put this more to the backburner of my personal mind.

Went out to a restaurant for the first time since Jan 2020. It was a bit weird. You can tell some people have totally been going out the whole time and some people were also going out for the first time. No judgment either way, just felt off. I feel for the waitstaff, they have no chance of avoiding infection.

Looks like I have Long Covid and it sucks
I usually have a "it will get better" "the body will heal itself" mentality but after half a year I think it's time to cave in - I have a lung health check next week

I did, got a Pfizer dose a month ago or so (had no symptoms whatsoever btw)
Doesn't seem like it helped...I mean if the lungs are fucked, how could it help :(
