Indoor dining here in Ireland was supposed to start back this Monday but now not anymore because of the Delta variant. I think my country is having some issues getting vaccinated.

Its never coming back until the people decide theyre over it. There will always be some new variant to keep people locked down in these authoritarian countries.

what do you think the Irish government gets out of keeping people from eating in restaurants

what in your mind is the motivation there? Just arbitrarily controlling people for fun?

definitely. seems like the government was being way too optimistic and we're heading towards yet another inevitable lockdown, especially now that this delta variant shit is going on. i hope i'm wrong, of course.

Congrats btw.

So the doctor did some basic tests and said everything is fine
But he referred me to lungs CT scan and a breathing test just in case
Today I had a breathing test and the doctor said the results are good
And next month (god damn it) I am going back to the first doctor and show him the scan results
And if he tells me that the scan results are good too...then wtf
I am not imagining this. Also I am totally not sure if I want them to find something wrong or not
Like...I know there is something wrong. But if they can't see it maybe it isn't that bad and will pass?
Or they just suck?
Was at that doctor last week
Looked at my CT scan and my lungs fuction test results...and told me everything is fine and we are done here and I don't need to come back :|

That's...sucks, really. I have something and they can't find it. I am glad that I am feeling much better and I feel like I am gradually recovering, but I am still not perfect. Something is still amiss

Right now my symptoms are-
Can't put much stress on my upper back. Can't sit on a chair while my back is pushed into it (i.e when I put my legs on something). I also can't sleep on my back, only on the side. When I put stress on my back I feel it's harder to breath

And the much more alarming
Once per week, or two per week, I am becoming exteremly tired out of nowhere. It's super sudden and random. This isn't the head being tired, or the legs, or the eyes, it's the whole body.
And the problemetic part? when it happens I feel like my breath is weaker, like my body is entering into a power saving mode. When it happens I just go to sleep, but this week it happened while I was at work at it was so hard to fight it. Passed after half an hour

Good to see in the news some more positive news about the J&J vaccine and its ability to hold up against the Delta variant. It appears to be faring better than it's AstraZeneca counterpart.

Also saw on the news our state has had a total of only 14 fully vaccinated deaths. Median age of those was 84. All with underlying health conditions.

While I wish it didn't have to be this way, as long as the variants are only ravaging the unvaccinated I dont give them much care .

And yes, it raises the chance of mutation to beat the vaccine, but right now it is spreading among groups that were going to get covid eventually anyway.

Sucks most for kids age 0 to 11 and those with compromised immune systems. But I'm not sure a path existed where it would get better for the latter group.

people whining about news coverage of variants can rest assured that the US at least is never going under lockdown again, even if it does mutate and lead to something that the current vaccines don't protect against. US is ride or die vaccine at this point, for better or worse.

It's getting really bad in Indonesia. We were #2 of new cases today, with 31k+ cases.

After losing my uncle last year, I finally lost someone I knew firsthand today, an ex-coworker. Also two of my aunts are tested positive and my mom is (rightfully) quite stressed about it. Two of my cousins as well, but they're still relatively young and should be okay.

But the hardest is seeing all the obituaries. I know at least six of my friends lost their mother since the pandemic. My mother lost like three of her friends, and my father one of his. Just terrible time all around. At least my family is keeping ourselves as safe as possible, we purchase our groceries online now, we take vitamin D and other supplements as well. Hopefully we'll be safe.

I'm kind of skeptical about the 6 month figure quoted by Pfizer, but at the same time I see it as certain eventuality within the year anyway with almost no downside and a benefit of being customized specifically for variants of concern. So I'm thinking a timing of availability around September and October should be good, and hopefully no conflict with administration of flu shots.

Just got the call from family in the UK that my grandmother is seriously ill. Still waiting for the results to come back but they think it's bowel cancer. She's in her 90s so if it is, it's going to be terminal. She hasn't eaten in days and has lost 20lbs in just over a week so I doubt she has very long unless it's miraculously ulcers instead

My biggest fear when COVID restrictions started was that something like this would happen and I wouldn't be able to get home to visit them or even for the funeral. My grandfather died suddenly a couple of years after I emigrated and I hadn't been home in 2 years to visit due to work. I was devastated and I still feel guilty about it even now.

If my grandmother dies and I can't get back to see her before she does, I don't know what I'll do. I try to go home every year but the last time I was home was late 2018 since a lot of my family visited here in 2019. I told them I planned to come home as soon as COVID restrictions allowed me to and have been checking travel restrictions every 1-2 weeks. This just feels cruel and unfair even though I'm well aware others have it far worse than me.

Vaccinations are not available for people under 65 yet in most of Japan
