oh hello i've been playing this a lot.

I'm AR 34, F2P thus far and the only 5* I pulled was Keqing, who was the character I wanted the most anyway.

Thinking about dropping some money on wishes on the venti banner tonight, because I still haven't pulled a Fischl and Venti would be a great support for Keqing as well.

The next banner is supposed to be Klee, who I'm not interested in whatsoever, so it makes more sense for me to use my wishes now.

Im at AR27 and also F2P. I havent even invested in Venti at all still oops. Got my Female MC up to lv50 with Noelle, Xiangling and Barbara at lv40. I got a 5* book from the Jean/Diluc banner. Shame it wasnt Jean, but oh well I gave the book to Barbara. Ive explored a ton of the map, but still have some teleport spots left to activate. Made my way all the way out to sea to fight the Geo cube. Wasnt too difficult overall.

I just hit AR28. I think I dropped $30 on gems to get the one time double bonus, then I exhibited absolute zero self control and rolled a bunch of times with them on the Venti banner.

I think all I got out of it was two duplicate Xiangwhatever, one duplicate Fischel, and some weapons... so I dont think the expenditure really put me much ahead of a free person and it pretty much killed my interest in spending more money on the game.

I decided to give up on Venti and just accept my only wind person was going to be Sucrose even though I kinda dont like her.

even with those extra pulls + all the free launch currency and stuff, I havent gotten a single 5*. big time bummer

but I have gotten (what I assume is) every 4* Electro character. (if it turns out theres another one and I roll them I will throw my controller at my monitor)

you've just got to pour all the wishes into a single banner. you're guaranteed a 5 star after 90 rolls so you ought to be pretty close to it.

And that "pity timer" rolls over between banners too, so even if you don't hit the 5* on the venti banner, you can probably hit it on the banner after that.

the good news is that you can still make a very very meta team out of razor+fischl+xiangling+wind mc, at least, though I definitely get how no 5* is boring. razor fischl xiangling are all just super effective for their rarity. if your lightning luck extends into 5*, keqing is very slightly better than razor, too, in the exact same setup

every 90 pulls on the same banner is guaranteed a 5* (and it has a 50% chance to be venti, if you've been rolling on the leftmost banner as you should), so definitely at least keep pulling on that banner until you get some 5*. you can check how many rolls you've made somewhere on the gacha page, under roll history or something. 6 rolls per page so once you see 15 pages you should have some kind of 5*

they've definitely given enough free gems and whatnot to make 90 rolls if you've been playing a decent amount, especially if you've bought the $5 subscription thing or just raw bought pulls like you did, so don't stop just short of the pity 5* guarantee if you can make it before the venti banner expires

AR28. I've decided to take the advice of others in the topic and kicked all the story characters (including my FeMC) to the curb in favor of Fischl, Xiangling, Barbara, and Razor. No money spent. I've burned through all my Primogems no 5* characters or weapons

So I spent $50 on gems and pulled Diluc (as well as a 5th Barbara, 6th Xiangling, and my first Fischl)! Now I have (to my knowledge), the highest two DPS characters in the game! Should be set for the Spiral Abyss now as soon as I can level them up. Basically the only thing I'm missing now is a 2nd healer, as Noelle doesn't really cut it.

Two teams:

Keqing/Fischl/Main Character/Barbara

Diluc/Xiangling/ two of (Razor/Noelle/Chongyun/Lisa).

Oh hey, it's me from a few days ago! Then I got Xiangling from the spiral abyss and I was suddenly happy. I'm just running MC-Fischl-Barbara-Xiangling as my primary team, and keeping Noelle as a stand-in. I've basically dumped the entire rest of my crew.

Check out the youtube/twitch content from Demone Kim. He's extremely supportive of Sucrose and likes to show off how she fits into a group. He mains Jean and Sucrose is basically his #2 character. He swaps the other two to fool around and for elemental synergies.

Side note: I like Demone Kim's responses and evaluations to a lot of things. The other youtubers and streamers don't seem to have the game figured out the way he does, making tier lists based and reactions on incomplete info, rather than taking a holistic approach. Demone will tell you that every character is good and has its use, and then often goes on to show you why. He's also got close to a thousand hours of beta experience to draw from.

Does Demone defend Amber? She seems super bad lol

Amber's pretty awful but has her uses, limited they may be.
that doll of hers has a taunt effect and more importantly, her burst shreds those enemies with a bubble around them while also being an easy way to switch to Fischl and Overload 'em.

...other than that, she's basically just field support. wanna break those lightning crystals, she's good for it. fire puzzles of some kind, she's got it. want more gliding, she's your girl. she's pretty much just hard support.

So how do the playable characters work? Can you use anyone you want in the overworld? I'm not a fan of the designs of the main characters. Also I'm guessing getting a specific one is a crapshoot.

Shame. Is there a way to 'reroll' at the start so you at least get 1 or 2 characters you'd prefer? Also how skill-based is the combat vs. relying on stats? Also are certain character with higher rarity strictly better than others?

Sorry for all the questions but a single player gacha game comes with a fuckton of caveats in my mind!

the main strategy is to reroll accounts at Adventure Rank 7, at which point you should a decent amount of rolls to try for some 5* characters.

5* characters are strictly better statwise, yes. HOWEVER, one reason you might choose to use a 4 star instead is the "constellation" mechanic. Which essentially gives each character additional passives (to amplify their abilities or skillset) every time you get a duplicate character (up to 6 times). Unless you're dropping thousands of dollars, it's extremely unlikely that you'll ever end up with more than 1 constellation on a 5* ever. However, with the rate ups, I had gotten 4 Barbaras and 4 Xianglings without even spending a dime, meaning they essentially had 4 extra unique passives that my 2 5 star characters will likely never have access to. That can sort of even out the stat/kit differences

Yes there is. Some claim it takes like 20 minutes if you know how to run it, but that seems difficult to me.

I mean, someone who can only mash one button with a level 50 character is gonna do infinitely better than a perfect player on a level 10 one. But there is a decent amount of skill involved, still. The main gimmick of the game is that you switch characters on the fly and combine their elements into a plethora of combos that do way more damage.

The consensus top 3 characters are two 5-star units and a 4-star one. It's not strictly "higher rarity = better unit", but that's gonna be the case in every gacha. Also, the best team isn't gonna be a bunch of 5-star guys, because elemental combos mean a lot. And really, just play as characters you think are fun. You'll be fine.

Also the free characters have value. Fire Archer is field utility and fire, ice sword user can freeze and crit a lot, lightning user zaps things, though if you pull on the current banner you may get the best lightning character anyway.

As long as you know how to switch party members, you'll be fine. Element combos matter more.

Yeah I'm sure they will add more sooner than later but the lack of daily bonuses for logins is truly baffling.

The fact that the initial Seize the Day login event wasn't just a continuous thing is maybe the most baffling aspect of the whole game. The rewards were only decent. Most gacha games have a daily login so people are incentivized to at least keep up with things even when they're too busy to play. Really weird, and I'm sure something will be put in.

There is resin, at least. Also, the fact that the domains have a rotating reward schedule, so certain items need to be farmed on certain days. But neither of those things are incentives.

I definitely enjoyed the opening days, when I could rely on a semi-steady drip of primogems. My primogem income is incredibly low at this point, maybe enough to support a 50-gem resin refresh and not a lot more. Which would be fine if I weren't F2P and still working toward my first pity timer.

Plot Stormterror fight was easy, but the actual fight you can do after killed me. I only had Venti for ranged so that didnt help lol

I feel like the weekly boss fights are artificially timed, in that if you can't defeat the boss fast enough, you are just constantly taking damage.

The weekly stormterror is also super easy (especially if you have any source of healing, like barbara) if you've done any ascending, but it's really REALLY prone to bugginess. I always teleport randomly off the boss during his down phased, and I know someone who had all the platforms go into permanent damage mode and he just kinda had to tank it.

I did the weekly stormterror fight with just Noelle. You strike his claws and climb on his neck to attack the weak point. Ranged is a complete nonissue in that fight.

Yup, don't need to care about pretty much anything happening on the screen. Just shield and swing sword...everything dies eventually. Some types of enemy really need you to swap to someone like Fischl or Xiangling, but death comes to all.

That is what I was doing and it was much more difficult towards the end when every section of the floor in an entire circle around him made me take damage if I stood on it. I ended up having everyone die from that even with Noelle and Barbara. My Noelle is lv40 and even has a lv40 4* sword along with lv8 artifacts and it still took forever somehow

I did the Stormterror fight once and found it simple once I'd beaten the story version...which I did lose to because I didn't think to try aimed shots in that weird camera land and climbing onto his head wasn't working.

Wolf boss I haven't figured out yet.

stormterror fight i just went fuck it, Mona/Barbara. aiming is such a shitty mechanic sometimes in the game and it's awful in that fight.

and Noelle doesn't actually have very good DPS until her burst is available. when that's active, she's amazing. when she doesn't, she's not that good. however a greatsword user has some benefits that make me level her up.

I did 3 rolls on the Venti banner again because why not. Fischl is now 2 dupes, Barbara is now 2 dupes and I got Qiqi. Pretty good stuff since I want another Cryo character. Did not expect her to say shes a zombie

Noelle is perfectly adequate without her burst. Talents and artifacts and whiteblind help a fair bit with this. If I want all the damages, I'll swap to Fischl and Xiangling to bring out the bird/bear and continue wailing with Noelle, preferably with shield up to restore hp.

Also, for a boss fight like Stormterror, definitely a good idea to have some attack/defense food eaten if you're unsure of your potential.

So I hit AR35 today and Ascended Keqing again. And good god the XP needed to go from level 60 -> 70 on a character ramps up dramatically. Even if I used every single XP book I currently have I still would only hit level 68. (although I did just level Diluc to 60 yesterday, using a lot of my XP books in the process).

I've hit a 5th constellation on Barbara because I keep pulling her on every 4 star it seems like. Her 6th constellation looks disgustingly good, so I'm hoping to pull her once more before her rate up on the Venti banner goes away.

i've only actually had it proc twice, both times when i accidentally fell to my death while exploring. being useless in coop kinda sucks but it's a decent safety net solo (not that it's really needed if you give her the crafted weapon that makes her Q end up healing like 90% of your hp, but hey, overkill)

Haha. Whats the best spear for Xiangling again? I got one of those 4* spear models or whatever you can use to craft a real weapon, but I forgot which one is best for her

if you're going to be normal attacking at all, crescent spear (it's actually absurd how good it is compared to everything else, because +20% atk additive to an attack string that is mostly 20-40% to begin with is a LOT of extra damage)

if you're solely using her for swap in skill usage, it doesn't really matter, but you need to use the highest rarity you have available because the attack difference between 3* and 4* gets pretty large as you go on

so i would definitely craft crescent spear over prototype grudge

have you tried using his ult yet? it swirls like 10 times, keeps enemies immobilized during its entire duration, and at ascension 4 restores energy to himself and whatever element you swirled with (which ideally will be your main DPS element that he's supporting)

he's so good you should drop mc immediately and only care about them again when you have a second anemo support set built for spiral abyss

I still haven't hit the pity timer on the Venti banner. Got to pull #70 last night. (I apparently threw 20 at the normal banner, though.) I've been using MC in my team, so I'd certainly like to hear more thoughts on Venti and if I should worry about trying to get that 90th pull before the banner changes. If I had my choice of 5-stars, I think I'd rather have Jean or Qiqi for a more definitive character in the team that serves as a healer, but if I end up with Venti, I could make room for him if it's worth it.

That's ascension (level cap), not constellation (dupes), I believe. They'll get to ascension 4 eventually.

Venti appears to be an extremely good support. Your pity timer will roll over to the next banner, which supposedly features Klee. You can look up gameplay of her from the closed beta on youtube. Personally, I don't think she looks very good or fun to play, so I likely won't be spending pulls on her banner, but you should look at that to make the determination of whether you need to push to pull on the venti banner before it switches.
