as for shields, water > ice > fire for how much it sucks to deal with them.
bubbles are shit. legit the only reason i've leveled Kaeya. Fischl can deal damage with Oz on all of them but water takes too long compared to the rest (and fire is Mona/Barbara bait).

Read each characters abilities and focus on finding artifacts that help them (i.e. HP % for Barbara, DEF % for Noelle, CRIT % for Amber, everyone else ATK %/ Elemental Mastery).

roll on the beginner gacha (has noelle) until it goes away, then wait until the next gacha tomorrow with klee to roll more

atk% is the only stat worth caring about for now (critical is never a waste but it doesn't become better than atk% until ridiculously geared. elemental damage is really good but it's only as mainstat on certain pieces so it's either great or useless. flat attack on accessories is a trap stat. elemental mastery is good on anyone who might cause reactions, and getting a lot on your main dps is worth it depending on the character). otherwise just roll with whatever you get until like adventurer rank 30, artifact substats are a crapshoot and it's not worth worrying over

most elemental reactions do a set amount of damage only modified by level, resistances, and elemental mastery, so causing as many as possible is how you do the most damage with them. melt (fire+water) and vaporize (fire+ice) are the exceptions, where they multiply the amount of damage done by the hit itself based on elemental mastery (and since it's multiplying the hit itself, they scale with everything)

the general roles in this game are Main DPS (the character you spend most of your time as and use regular attacks with), Reaction DPS/Secondary DPS (they cause damage via their skills and/or reactions), Offensive Support (provide offensive buffs to the team), Defensive Support (provide defensive buffs to the team), and Healer. most characters dip into a few categories, but you should eventually decide on who you want as main DPS (Diluc, Keqing, Razor, Xiangling, Chongyun, and the upcoming Klee are all good main dps) and focus most of your attention on them, then build the rest of the team to support them. ideally one more character of the same element (for faster energy building and taking advantage of anemo res down), one more character that can set up reactions, and the last character being anemo (right now anemo is an incredibly good support element due to their element set effect). it's not the end of the world if everyone's a different element tho

I hit AR31 and feel like I still have tons of stuff to find and do. There are tons of hidden chests even from doing the most random of things. Ill be surprised if anyone even finds all of those.

yes, but far less than anyone else given the same amount of investment. she has a lower ceiling and she scales slower because she has nothing helping her

speaking of vaporize, it's a 1.5x multiplier for water triggering fire, whereas it's a 2x multiplier for fire triggering water. it's objectively inferior to try to main dps a water unit over a fire one

if a 4* fire catalyst user came out tomorrow and they had no talents or constellations whatsoever, they would do more damage than barbara by virtue of element

After getting Jean I only bring in Barbara for Fire Bosses and to heal up my team before other Bosses and then switch her out.

Its all on how you want to play the game though, I can see any unit to be viable. Even Amber if you like to do charge headshots.

i absolutely agree but you can still concede barbara and amber are less good than other characters (edit: at specifically offense; amber's still great at exploration which is a lot of the game) while still using them, right

game isn't hard and a lot of stuff works, even the bad stuff; but comparatively they still are bad even if they work

• Once you have the glider, take your time to explore slowly and thoroughly. Once you've "cleared" the map, you want to have the confidence to be able to say you've actually cleared the map.
• Use the map markers any time you find something you can't do because you're too weak or you need a key or whatever.
• Pick up everything. All the little garbage the enemies drop will become important eventually, unless it's part of a food recipe.
• Prioritize renewable activities over non-renewable activities. In particular, make sure you're spending your resin. First on ley lines at rank 8, and then on domains and world bosses once you're able.
• Don't sweat having the most awesome-est 5* characters. Just learn how to swap between the people you have to produce elemental comboes.
• Learn what it takes to level up your characters. At certain breakpoints (starting with level 20) you need to "ascend" your characters by spending a bunch of resources.

Finding a group of hilichurls dancing is one of the best things

I am essentially done exploring the world. I've been to every part of the map. I need to go back and track down some missing geoculuses (geoculii?) but anything else I come across is something I missed on the first pass.

I finished my last quest, other than the nine pillars, which is locked behind the geoculii.

I forced myself to run two artifact domains so I could finish the adventure journal's current slate of objectives. With level 6 finished, I almost insta-finished 7, too. (I would have, except I still haven't beaten the wolf in several attempts.)

I have basically all the materials I need for when I hit 35, other than that I need a metric asston of Sealed Scrolls.

So although I haven't despaired of nothing to do just yet, I'm sure in a couple days, I'm going to be scratching my head, wondering what one is supposed to do in this game once they've cleared the map. Running domains just 'cause isn't fun. I've only done Spiral Abyss up to 3-3, and obviously I need to figure out Boreas. Beyond that, I think I'm just going to cruise the world one more time to see if there's anything I missed. I know there's a few shrines I haven't opened, and one of the side dungeons still needs to be unlocked. And once I get to 35 in half a level, I'll be farming the world bosses for the materials I literally can't get right now for ascension.

Out of curiosity, what are you other folks doing in the post-30 game? Patch 1.2 is a long way off still.

At AR33, I still have some exploring to do. I'm trying to sweep through the map and get as much treasure as I can find. Not exhaustively, but at least pretty thoroughly. I mostly have the Jueyun Karst or whatever it's called left to explore, but that region is huge, and I only did the minimum when I was doing the main quest. I need 3 more of the wind oculi but I'm not going to bother trying to dig those out, and the last level of the geo ones too. Beyond that I'm using resin on ascension mats in preparation for AR35 so I can get my main team ascended quickly. I'm pretty behind on weapon mats though. Putting off Spiral Abyss since I only have four usable characters.

Other that sometimes i try to do more spiral abyss, sometimes i just roam while watching something on another screen. I still find chests i have missed from time to time

Halfway through 34 here.
There's a side quest I've been a bit lazy on but will finish as it'll get me to 35, which I need to do as I've gotten my main 3 characters and weapons to 60. Also am done with the book up to 11, need to hit 35 before I can move on to 12.

Daily stuff is just dailies, spend resin (gold lately), and that's about it. I could technically try to find the remaining ameno and geo things for the statues but that's to be done with pictures/videos, I'm not patient enough to search otherwise.

Any recommended spots for sealed scrolls? I've got the mist grass farm down pat, but samachurls are kinda everywhere.

King, just use the interactive map to make sure you're in the right area. They ought to show up on the radar most of the time, unless you're at a grossly different altitude.

A loop around Stormterror's Lair has like 5-6 Smachurls. Stormbearer Mountains has like 3-4. And Guyun Stone Forest has like 4-5. That's as far as I go.

I'm early-ish, just hit AR 20. My current team is the MC, Fischl, Barbara, and I don't really have a fourth. Is Kaeya at all viable? Or Razor (though I don't know if it's any good having two of the same element on a team).

Got 2 Sucrose dupes so far out of 14 single pulls

kaeya is viable, yes.
he's also going to be your main ice guy for a while unless you get lucky. his role will be primarily freezing shit which he admittedly is great at, though you'll probably swap him for another character afterwards unless you're unlucky and pull him like 4 times.

multiple elements on the same team can be fine. you've got two electro with him, meaning you get High Voltage. be sure to swap in Barbara often for the hydro reaction.

Razor is a good unit. probably overlooked because Fischl is electro and is top tier but he's good. probably replaces Noelle, especially since you've already got Barbara. two electro on a team is a pretty good mix for Fischl too for the record, it actively keeps Oz on the field more often as you're going to generate more energy for her. the game is seriously primarily about swapping characters when it comes to combat and two electro with her as Oz spam is basically the current meta.

worst case get some friends in the game to clear content, once you hit 30-35 you're basically going to run into a wall and not be able to do much. ...actually wait, i don't think anybody's posted their UID yet?

better than fine, it's ideal, cuz same element = both characters recharge each other's energy faster and it's way easier to take advantage of any res downs you manage to get. haven't actually seen any meta setups that don't use a double main element... though, honestly, it's probably about the same until you get anemo set (which i highly recommend everyone bumrush a 4* set of asap at world level 3 or 4 because it's extremely noticeable)

both work extremely well together and are almost always paired together because razor wants to be on the field forever and fischl only wants to be on the field for about a second every 10-15s. razor puts out very comparable damage to the 5* electric main dps unit, and apparently possibly more if you go for a good superconduct setup. razor does encourage you to occasionally delay using skills though, which is a very bad practice to fall into

the main reason fischl is more popular is because she actually works everywhere, whereas razor only works as your centerpiece in an electric-focused team, but damn is he good at that and electric is in a really good spot elementwise at the moment anyways

it's actually disgusting how good her energy generation is for the amount of damage she's able to easily and reliably put out. even if you aren't going for an electric team, she works as the third (non-anemo) unit literally everywhere as probably a higher dps option than anyone else

As for the discussion about doubling up on elements, I didn't realize that was such a prevalent tactic. I should probably decide how I want to play moving forward before I hit 35 and spend a ton of resources upgrading my people, though. I've got Razor and Beidou, so lightning is definitely not a concern for me. I literally haven't even tried Beidou even though she looks cool.

I cant get over how good this game is still. I just keep wanting to play, find more stuff and upgrade my party and gear. Its nice theres even variety to the little puzzles. I just found an area that was under a lake and was able to drain it so I can explore it. I dunno when Ill run out of stuff to do, but at the rate I play Ill probably just be finishing everything up by the time the new region launches. I really cant wait to see it. If its even half as amazing as Liyue its still gonna be incredible. Liyue might just be the prettiest region Ive ever seen in a video game.
