Well according to the NIH 230 lbs at 6'1" is a BMI of 30.3, which makes you "obese" and is exactly why BMI is bullshit. Objective measurements are the only meaningful way to gauge fitness. Things like body fat percentage and circumference measurements are going to tell you so much more about your health than BMI.

If you are working out consistently and have come to a plateau in your weight loss, then your diet is ineffective and needs to be tuned.

Gonna take it pretty easy today and just do accessories since I plan to eat an awful meal tonight. I actually think I just did 9 days in a row without really realizing it, it's just second nature to go at this point. I felt pretty worn out mentally last night tho, but I feel much better today.

I forgot to chime in in that earlier. Jumping jacks are a reasonable substitute if you feel the need to mix it up. Overall jump rope is better imo. Youre getting coordination, speed and timing gains as a great byproduct but jacks have their place too. This is especially true if youre not a coordinated person. It's also easier to do jumping jack variations if you have knee issues too imo.

Today for cardio I did jump rope and running in place up downs in between. Worked up a good sweat.

Im only a month in but the first two weeks I did 2 days in between to make sure i didnt hurt myself and to let my body get use to exercising. Now I do 6 days a week but focus on one type of exercise a day so that part that worked out yesterday rests the next 2-3 days.

I prefer the PPL routine (pull, push, legs). Normally people have push day then pull day after, but I find it's best to keep deadlifts as far away from squats as possible.

Pull day would have biceps, back, some shoulder rotary cuff, and deadlifts.

Push day would have triceps, chest and shoulder.

Legs day has legs and abs core.

I do HIIT cardio on the treadmill 3x a week.

I also make it a point to always exercise on an empty stomach, to maximize the calories I burn from fat and use up glycogen + stored fat, rather than the food I'd have immediately eaten. Pre-workout consists of a mix by Old School Labs (really good stuff), during I use an electrolyte powder mix in water, and post-workout I have a plant-based shake formula and will typically eat boiled/scrambled eggs, fish or animal meat (beef, pork, chicken) so that I get a complete fat and protein profile. Carbs will vary, low/zero if I'm cutting and I'll carb cycle low/med/high when gaining.

I block it out as chest/arms and legs/back and I definitely squat and deadlift on the same day lol. I also have moves I do every time I'm in the gym. I do 5 days in a row and rotate the blocking the next week. I started with two days off between sessions, moved to every other day, then did a three day cycle with the fourth day off before arriving where I am now.

It all depends on your style and your goals. Resting isn't just about recovering from physical fatigue but is also how you manage your motivation. My best advice as someone who's only been doing it for 7 months is to go at a pace that is comfortable enough to help you stay consistent. Once you establish a consistent pattern, the results are on the way. We can all give you advice based on what works best for us, but in the end you're going to have to tune your routine so that it's effective at reaching your goal.

@LumaRosalina
Rest depends on what you're doing and your recovery rate. Total body workout M,W,F is a pretty common split but they're longer workouts. There are more complicated ones where you try not to hit the same muscles multiple days in a row.

Honestly, it's probably best to get on some sort of real program so you don't have to put much thought into it. You can adjust that routine later on once you create a base level of strength and see the changes in your body and feel your limits. Then you can choose a goal from there and work towards it.

Wow, you guys are actually getting me motivated to go to the gym and work out again with your posts. For some reason I really want to do yoga though, and maybe jump rope. I have one of the best jump ropes money can buy, it cost me $50 lol the only problem is I'm super heavy right now. I played basketball a week ago and nearly tore my knees and ankles off doing jump stops.

I haven't been taking headphones lately because I can only use over ear ones rn and I don't want them to get all sweaty, but I find it helps me find my rhythm at times. I never use it during my main lifts, I need absolute focus there.

My friend's office gym has a Sonos tho and we always blast stuff since we're the only ones there.

I'm in the 300 club for squat and deadlift as of today.
