Way too much. They're only harming their bodies in the long run. Spine, neck, knees, heart, kidneys, bladder, and liver. As there are eating disorders, there is such thing as exercise disorders as well. Only exception I will make are professional athletes where they have reliable trainers, and doctors monitoring them. "Joe" from Apt 4 just doing this because he's motivated from watching youtube videos should be more careful.

I dont think someone runs 200 miles because its healthy

my point was more that 8 miles is literally nothing compared to what these savages do

imo everyone should swim for their cardio instead of run since I think its superior all around but not everyone has a pool

I was referring to this as well, I don't even know who Erik the Electric is.
8 miles? Even the most jacked bodybuilder/model need to run only 2-3 miles a day, or less. Erik the Electric your hero or something?

As for ultra runners, I have no envy of people who run those. I care more about speed than distance, but some distance especially in the early phase is part of that training.

I'm not even interested in even a standard marathon, actually. Racewise I'd like to be able to run a fast Mile/5k/10k. I should be able to *complete* a half marathon with this same training but have no particular time goals other than don't shuffle through the whole thing.

I'm actually warm on drinking beer while losing weight. Especially if you fast because you need less beer. If you keep it to 2-3 times a week and you get your tolerance down, you can get a decent buzz with 3 coors lights if you drink fast enough haha.

If the goal is to enjoy the beer, then I'd say do 1 fancy beer every few days or so. Or you can just workout harder to burn it but blah.

I stick with green because its no calorie...just gotta watch those munchies.

NOTE: I am not an expert in any of this obv. so don't listen to my suggestions. Try things out and see what works is the best advice imo

Except he's completely right. You should only be running that much if you're going to run a marathon in the future or if you're currently in Track & Field/a sport and plan on competing. Otherwise, you're setting yourself up for a lot of health problems in the future. You said it yourself that you have no interest in doing a standard marathon so what's the point? You can get faster without pushing your body like this.

LambChop knows what he's talking about given the nature of his fitness posts so take his advice. Hell, he can probably go into far greater detail if he really wanted to. I'm no slouch either as I was in Track & Field from high school into college before I slowly started to switch to powerlifting. You need to be way more careful. You talked about praying for no knee pain after one of your runs in the last topic. What do you think is going to happen if you keep this up?

Diet still messed up but I don't think I've exceeded my maintenance calories, I've been eating pretty much at maintenance. Gained some water weight I think and since then its been exactly the same. I have noticed that my body is starting to look better in general. Its been roughly 6 weeks or so. 3 weeks of 2-day workouts just getting back into it, then 3 weeks for a formal 4-5 day routine.

Sorta modifying the routine but haven't quite figured out exactly what lifts I want to do regularly. I'm basically doing a PHUL workout but splitting the upper hypertrophy into back and chest. On those days I'm not sure which lifts I should do. On chest yesterday, I do 3x10 flat bench, 3x10 incline bench, then pushups. I think that should be good for a beginner. Don't really like doing flys. Today is back hypertrophy, I guess I'll do barbell rows, pullups, single dumbell row, the biceps, and somewhere in there I want to do power cleans...maybe first.

You ran track in college and agree with LampChop that one should not be running more than 2-3 miles without being a professional athlete with a trainer? Or that you should not be running 9 miles unless you are training for marathon? I have built up from 15 miles per week to ~33 per week since December. I would like to know what kind of distance program that your college had if there were even 1500m runners who did not have a 9 mile long run in their routine.

Yes, I was experiencing ITBS pain for about 3 weeks - which I recovered from by not doing speedwork and incorporating hip/glute strengthening workouts into my routine. I have not had any pain since.

Please, post a link to your track results, so I know you're not full of shit. Here are mine:

Aside from my desire to pick apart @The_Scarecrow 's running stats if he's not too scared to post them, I have been a member of the forums at both bodybuilding.com as well as letsrun.com and it's funny to see the contrast between guys who are adamant that running at all will "destroy your body" vs. guys who successfully build up from 0 to 70mpw in a few months without issue.

Taking high mileage advice from a bodybuilder who does not run distance is dumb, like taking bulking advice from an marathoner.

Guys who want to acquire and maintain 30lbs of muscle over their natural weight are not going to have a good time while running, not exactly shocking.

Bonus: LR thread about Tiger Woods recently saying running 30mpw destroyed his body:
