I feel like I wasted my youth on functional strength and being able to push around a lot of weight for my skinny ass body. Honestly, I just want to look better with my shirt off. It's been my focus for the past few years. It's part of why I'm doing like a dozen different exercises a day rather than focus on a few heavy lifts. I racked up a lot of injuries for essentially nothing back then that still plague me. I'm older but look dramatically better even if I'm not quite as strong overall.

As far as today's workout: mixed results. Feel like I'm losing some raw power on this extreme cut but was brimming with energy so I added like 4 more exercises into the end of my routine.

I can't tell if I straight up can't lift as many reps on my dumbell bench press or if during my struggle to get into position I'm wasting a lot of energy. With no spotter that lift is always a struggle to get into position so it has always made for super slow progression. I'm just not sure if I was screwing it up today or I'm losing strength. I do lower weight reps of it on Tu/Th/Sat so hopefully those go fine.

no idea what machine you are talking about. Will look up how to do side lunges. I was banging this chick and got a cramp in my groin, shit was funny but kind of embarrassing. Also inconvenient

It's really normal. For one thing, a lot of what feels like strength gains are less the muscle getting stronger than you getting used to and better at the movement.

but yeah dem aesthetics bby. love working on smaller muscles and really focusing in on them instead of the big compound lifts.

then again i also love throwing up a shit ton of weight too

i dont know what i want

I'm of the opinion, "why not both?"

My primary goal really is strength, but I'd be lying if I said I was ignoring the aesthetic of it. It's just my secondary goal and one I don't have a desire to get obsessed with, personally (I have some bad history with people obsessed over aesthetic, so that bad taste in my mouth tends to come back when I think about it).

Started getting back into a "loose routine" last week, alternating bodyweight workouts with sprinting intervals.

I think I definitely overdid it though, going from being inactive for a while straight into all that was a bit too high impact for my joints maybe. Hopefully this week I'll have adapted a bit better. Eventually I'll try to get into some CrossFit bodyweight WODs

Aww haha. I don't regret those days at all. I feel like it really ingrained some good fundamentals in me and it was the first program I did that really captured me with how quickly I began to see results.

And you can still look good on SS, just depends on the accessories you're throwing in

Yes struggling to lose weight as in lbs

But I've basically shed all of my fat. Like my wife says it is a huge difference. Which means if I'm staying the same weight then that has to mean I'm replacing fat with muscle. Working great for me :)

I have done every nutrition plan known to man so luckily for me I'm pretty in tune with how my body reacts. So far, one meal a day is treating it well.

If you dont have abs then you arent lean, and each percent of body fat is roughly 2-3lbs. Also takes quite a bit longer for your body to build new muscle than it does to lose fat...

it was less of the one meal a day thing and more that your diet consists of salami, hamburgers and little Debbie snacks... if youve tried every nutrition plan known to man Id think youd realize there are far more optimal ways to make progress than eating salami all day or having a burger and half a little Debbie snack... but Im not here to rag on you. Let me know how it works out I guess.

Pretty much. Typical SS can have you looking like a t rex as I dont think theres enough arm work but anyone whos aesthetic is also probably pretty strong. I havent met anyone Id consider aesthetic who can only put up 115 on bench or can only squat 135.

Id just get a $25 one of amazon. Probably a lot easier that way and less of a risk of it slipping out from the door frame and you busting your ass Id think.

I do have abs, they just are not shredded but you can definitely see them. Salami, hamburgers and HALF of a little debbie snack mind you. My daughter had the other half. Still hovering around 215-217 at around 12%. Would love to be a shredded 210.

You say "optimal" but also consider I'm juggling a bit of a full life right now with the kids, job, quarantine, etc. So optimal for me isn't spending time meal prepping or anything like that. Gotta find what works for my routine and this really seems to be working. And salami is delicious.

Oh and last thing - my body actually puts muscle on very quickly. I think I have good genes

This is essentially what I'm using atm. I also will stack two chairs on top of each other cushion to cushion to make an H shape and kneel underneath. Another method is to put a book or something under a door so you don't rip off the hinges and use that. I've never found a comfortable way to do the door thing though. I may simply not be strong enough.

More than one dude i know has had a doorway pull up bar either really screw up their door jam or completely give way and they've fallen to an injury, so I have a fear of those.

When you're doing it, really try to make a conscious effort to engage your glutes. It's possible that you're letting your lower body be lazy and it's putting too much strain on your lower back to compensate.
