Hmm, this Sir Anselm dude is rather suspicious. I'm tracking down Capon's gambled-away necklace and find the noble who has it is dead. Then, Anselm shows up and starts trying to get me to pose as the dead dude and infiltrate a bandit camp, etc. Almost slit his throat right there, but in the interest of fairness, I'll play it out normally. I definitely don't want to sit on my hands too long, since some quests are already failing certain stages due to time limits. =|

EDIT: Aaaaaaaand, the game just crashed as I approached this bandit camp. That doesn't bode well.

Odd...the game crashed again. I wonder if it's this DLC, this mission, or just something else (I don't think there's any save bloat). Anyway, it seems this task is part of the Hans Capon add-on, which I didn't know at first. Infiltrated the bandit camp, pickpocketed some key, and stole the dice tourney winnings without bothering with anything else. That doesn't technically solve the mission, though, so I guess I'll make a cursory effort and lose the stuff. I suppose the negotiator's murderer will have the special dice on his person, so I should look out for him.

Did the mine investigation mission for Feyfar, only to find the other miners threw their foreman to his death (right on top of me?) and tried to murder Henry's ass, too. Escaping from that maze was rather annoying at first -- I was chased by an insane archer -- but a torch+sword combination made short work of all the hoodlums. When I returned to the mountaintop encampment, everyone had flown the coop, so...I'm guessing they were all in on it.

Also picked up a few useful perks yesterday. One stops your hunger and energy (I think) from depleting while you stand still, so it should be good for waiting for long periods of time. The other is regenerating health outside combat, which...if this were another game, would have just been a thing from the start. Getting it here makes you feel like you earned it, though, so that's nice.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

The last part of Shenmue 2 shouldn't take too long to complete (by last, I mean the part after kicking Dou Niu's ass), so you should be having fun with Henry soon enough. Speaking of Capon, just finished a quest where I had to feed him poetry to recite, a la Cyrano de Bergerac. His mangling of it was pretty great...though not fit to repeat on this site, generally.

Did the next Band of Brothers mission, where some windmill is getting attacked by about 20 dudes. Had to convince Kuno (Kuro?) to go protect Radzig's vassals for some reason. He was all, "let's wait until they get drunk and gut 'em". I used my herb-scented, doggy-fueled Charisma stat to overwhelm his opinion, though. Later, I won two garments from Stephan Fletching in dice. Not sure if I'm an undiscovered farkle pro or Alphonse's dice are completely loaded...kinda leaning towards the latter.

Later, did the third mission, where Kuno's band is ambushed on a river by 30 dudes. I wonder if there's a traitor in the midst or it's just a red herring to someone else (or maybe not at all). I think the game is trying to make me think Jakey sold everyone out for some light mockery he's enduring.

I'm 109.3 hours in on save #487. Honestly, I thought it'd be much longer than that.

Anyway, if you want tips, just ask. The early going makes players feel pretty powerless and crappy in nearly every way. I guess you could sell herbs and start getting hammered in taverns, but that won't help too much, haha.

Wow, I didn't know you can pay a huge lump sump to innkeepers to basically have an extra house. So much easier than paying for rooms two groschen at a time. The game just called it another home, so I'm assuming this doesn't expire after a month or so.

Anyway, just got around to the Sasau quest involving the shady knight and the counterfeiting ring. It seems a certain local building is where all the facsimiles are coming from. Two of the laborers in the area seem to be people you can invite to Prabyslavitz, too, so that's pretty sweet.

Ooh, time for an assassination at the monastery. I always wondered what happened to that one bandit from the Neuhof raid, and it turns out he's been hiding with the monks the whole time. I know most of the exterior layout, and where Procopius' cave is, so maybe I can do this silently. My lockpicking/pickpocketing skills are pretty good now, too -- just did my first Very Hard lock! -- so maybe a nonlethal method's available.

I think I have all time-sensitive quests done or, in some cases, already failed. I didn't cure that one dude's leg at the monastery, and I completely blew off Matthew and Fritz's robbery quest (sorry, mates) to do Prabyslavitz stuff. As long as the quest isn't glitchy or something, I've got this in the bag.

it's not glitchy when i played it (aroudn 5 months after release) and it's been patched even more so it shouldn't.

but the quest kinda force you to live as a monk with their tight schedule. wake up at 4, pray, eat, 1 hour free time, then work scribing or mixing potions, eat, work then sleep. basicallu monk uber LARP. the time you can actually investigate is the free time.

Gonna start 'er up and play as the monastery's premier detective. I was hoping I'd have tons of time to investigate, but maybe this'll be fine. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the bandits are holed up in Vranik -- which has yet to be included in any quest so far -- which begs the question: "Why wasn't this the first place anyone looked?" Literally an abandoned town with fortifications that I could barely get into when it was empty.

Killed all the bandit camps around Rattay and got sent north by Bernard for Cuman killin'. Unfortunately, on my way back from the very first one, I raced through Talmberg like a tornado and got stuck with a permanent "in combat" icon that wouldn't disappear no matter what I did. (I bumped into someone and ran off, lol.) Now I have to do it all over again. =(

I was hoping the save bloat wasn't the case, but it's hard to deny the performance is as good as when I started. There's about 1000% more pop-in now, plus textures show up looking like unrefined crap for several seconds (at best). Or maybe Capon's horse looks this plain because it's in medieval WITSEC.

The yellow is its caparison, but yeah, it looks like hot garbage.

Anyway, now that I'm working for Sebastian, he tasked me with killing bandits in the Skalitz area. The first target is one of my least-favorite ones: a bunch of armored dudes with dogs in the NW hills. Luckily, I found a spot in the nearby camp where you can hop on a wagon, then onto a roof, to pelt these clownshoes with arrows. Results were...good.

Hmm, I squared away a bunch of loose quests, like weeding some dude's garden, checking out the witch wannabes near Merhojed, and the rest of Johanka's patients. Also spent a lot of time doing alchemy, plus buying all the books I still need. Now that Pribyslavitz has earned me over 50,000+ groschen -- on top of the 50K+ I already had -- splurging is due. At the very least, it'll pay for all the costly repairs that would otherwise go by the wayside.

That also means that I should stop dicking around and do the SimMonk mission today.

Yeah, that witch quest was kinda funny. I'd found their little Satan circle in the woods weeks before, so I was wondering what the hell I was supposed to do there (it's marked as an 'interesting site', just with no loot). I killed the "bandits" in my LSD stupor, though, so I wonder if I was supposed to fistfight 'em instead. Everyone I told about it chastised me and I lost reputation, haha.

Okay, I restarted and managed to sneak in 60+ lockpicks, which helped for nighttime sneaky time activities. Still don't know which novice is Pious (Lucas?), but I managed to sneak around the library, get a forbidden book, steal the Abbot's keys, and browbeat the circators out of their bullying ways. Looks like I'm going to have to spend another day doing boring activities, but I haven't tried the wait function yet, so that may be the key to fast-forwarding through mass, dead time after making alchemy potions, etc.

Also, we're totally eating Spaghetti-O's.

And because I have a lot of images I need to delete, here's a few random ones:

First, the aftermath of the "help the old whore" quest. I'm not sure if I ever got an actual reward for this, despite my good (relatively) deeds, so maybe I can find her hanging around somewhere and get real paid.

The quest for helping Capon with poetry didn't go quite as planned, lmao.

This is from the Band of Bastards DLC, after a traitor sells us out and we all split up. I went back to do the Ring of Bacchus quest and noticed that Stephen was all the way in Sasau's woods. When I went there, I found him knocked out near some random bandit camp. This was both funny and informative, since I've never seen an essential NPC actually kayoed before.

Here's the quest where the gullible village women think Henry is Satan.

Here's an example of the weird pop-in/loading/whatever glitches I've been encountering lately. This fine specimen appeared right outside Pirkstein. Luckily, it was the middle of day...if she was running straight for me in the dead of night, that would've been another matter entirely.

I remember looking around some of the altars and not finding anything there. Maybe it only spawns if you ask one of the monks (Cellarius?) about it. Didn't bother since I had more than enough for my cloister adventure. Probably should've snuck in a few Saviour Schnapps, though. Interestingly, instead of stealing a key from the abbot, you can find a duplicate in one of the kitchen pantries. Still have to pick some locks to get there, though, I think.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Build the tavern first for an easier time with expenditures! You can get Mirka and Adam to work there, IIRC.

Yeah, the game autosaves when you start quests and sometimes when you finish as well, so it's not uncommon to be saved by one of those. Still, players should always remember where free save tents are around the world, just to be safe. For instance, there's one right outside Rattay's western gate I always use, and (prior to plot changes) one on the outskirts of Sasau's forest. Bandit camps aren't any good for this stuff, sadly.

If you're early in the game and did the Skalitz events, there's a lot of huts and such (including in Rovna) that offer these services.

Yeah, having Bernard train you is smart, since your battle prowess will be extremely gimped without perfect blocks and such. Note that I've had freeze/crash/etc. issues with too many training sessions with him, so you should save (maybe at the nearby tavern) every 2-3 attempts.
