First time through. I don't remember hearing much about it other than:

1) awkward combat
2) no black people in it

Not expecting too much, but hopefully it'll be a decent romp with better combat than Skyrim.

I didn't know this was a first-person game. Or that I had to expend items to save. Haha...ha ha.......ha...

The game looks nice, at least. Too bad the main character reminds me of the guy playing Shaggy in live-action Scooby Doo.

You can save in beds for free.
I never got good at melee combat so I just went with stealth and bow. I think you're supposed to learn the combos or something to have melee work better? Fists are actually okay too.

Also the game opens up a lot after a fairly lengthy prologue.

henry is a good boi. also great game enjoy. it's meant to be LARP'd tho. i reckon it's not for everyone but for fun's sake try to LARP as much as possible. don' t take quests all at once and have like 3 dozen quests before doing it. do it one by one. use your bed. wake up in the morning, find food, do your job, go back home, sleep. if story/quest have you visit other town, book a room at inn, et cetera.

Good to know I can use beds instead of these potions. I noticed they sell for a lot.

it's also strong af when you get the handle of it. the only way to wipe group of enemies.

1 vs 3 is the most you can engage in melee, which is realistic-ish (3 would be very difficult even for a swordmaster) more than that you are dead

Oh I don't disagree. This game really hammers home that fighting more than one opponent in melee is incredibly difficult and dangerous.

I was following it for a long time before it came out but it released a glitchy mess so I passed on it. I heard recently they fixed it up really well and also found out they just released a version with all the DLC so I grabbed it on black friday. Looking forward to playing it.

Can't believe I had to turn to the internet to figure out a friggin' tutorial mission, but I finally found the culprit. The chick won't sell you papa's ale unless you also (for some reason) steal the cheapskate's axe. This doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the mission, so...that sucks. It's over with now, though, and I got a date with the barmaid! Henry's heart is the first 25 seconds of this:

Oops, my parents got a WWE-style smackdown. I think the more pressing issue is...what happened to my bae, Bianca? And her rival, Theresa? She definitely wanted some of hunka hunka burnin' peasant. (*points at self, dirty tunic, manure-stained hands*)

Also like how the aftermath of my parents' slaughter went.

Bianca's pushing up daisies, but it looks like Theresa's still alive. She has DLC, after all.

Anyway, made it to Talmberg and now have to sneak out to go bury my kin. I had a longer reply ready, but GameFAQs ate it, so now I'm not going to type it all out again. Suffice to say, it's time to do some lockpicking to find armor in that garrison tower.

I bought a lockpick and tried opening it, but it mangled it. To boot, the game didn't save when I slept last, so now I have to go do all this crap over again. Skyrim was oversimplified in many ways, but you gotta admit, its lockpicking minigame was pretty decent. You'd think more games would've seen it and improved on it, rather than making some weird abomination instead.

If it's this hard on a "very easy" lock, I'm not looking forward to the hard ones.

I wandered around and know where all the rooms and stuff are, so at least there's no confusion there. Might have to start drinking these saviour spirits (or whatever they're called) for on-the-spot saving to do this, 'cause I'm not going to loot my benefactors and buy lockpicks 20 times in a row, like I did for the "find the ale" portion.

They added an option awhile back to make lock picking a little easier. It's in one of the option menus but you have to turn it on. It still sucks but it's slightly less terrible. I was playing around the time the update dropped and it made it so I was at least able to at least do some of the very easy ones and up my lock pick skill.

Also, there are multiple ways to complete most quests. Some are more roundabout but you can often avoid aspects of the game that you're bad at or dont find fun. Like someone else mentioned it's better to rp instead of really trying to control the story. Just go with your choices and deal with the consequences of your failures.

I agree with that Skyrim sentiment. It may have been a vastly simplified game in comparison to KC:D, but it's a much more accessible, much more fun game to play. It's a real shame, because I had such high hopes for the game before it came out :/

Kingdom Come makes Skyrim and really all Bethesda games seem bug free. Lockpicking is actually really easy with the simplified version of holding down a button. A few skill levels and select perks and you won't even break it on very hard locks

it's much much better than skyrim, then again it met my expectations that it's bascially a medieval LARP game. sure it is not easy to pickup than skyrim, but it is exactly what i am looking for. more complex, immersive experience

Yeah, I'm gonna have to change the lockpicking method to the classic one, 'cause this system is jank incarnate. It seems you're supposed to find the sweet spot, then move it at the same time you're rotating the lock. But, half the time, the rotation isn't even happening, so you just keep losing the S.S. and messing things up (the lockpick is detereorating + making noise).

Alright, I agreed to help the miller (Chef Boyardee-looking dude) to get a ring back via graverobbing. Turns out, the executioner dude probably pocketed the ring, and the game seems to suggest that getting it back via dialogue is gonna be hard. So, I'm going to train lockpicking on this dude's chest (like Skyrim, you get EXP even when the lockpick breaks) for awhile, since it's free.

Speaking of fighting, just an FYI you'll be trained how to properly fight during a main mission in the game. Until that point combat is incredibly difficult because your moves are limited.

I only mention this because in my first playthrough I kept doing sidequests without advancing the main story too much and was wondering why every time I got into combat it was kicking my ass.

Yeah, combat's been a bit iffy so far. Doing fisticuffs with that dude who wanted to beat the dog with a shovel was surprisingly hard, especially since he kept kneeing me. I don't really want to ignore a bunch of stuff until the game teaches my dude how not to be a squire-tier fighter, though.

Also, the miller won't teach me how to lockpick anymore. I thought this was supposed to be a good way to train the skill, but it seems to be off the table...unless it's a nighttime-only thing. Maybe it'll respawn after a few days or something.

I had the miller teach me pickpocketing, but then I asked Theresa to tell how she escaped, and...I think I accidentally started her DLC. Not sure if that's right or it's just some small segment where I play as her. Almost just reloaded before remembering I had a ton of herbs to sell, so guess I'm stuck doing this. On the bright side, it seems the miller helps Henry practice his roguish skills at night, not during work hours.

What really screwed me up on this was the lockpicking. I got to a point where I couldn't progress without picking this chest and I could not do it. I just couldn't do it. They did release a patch to make it easier but by that time I was mostly checked out. I'd like to pick it up again.

Wow, Theresa almost got raped because Zbyshek pushed into the Cumans and escaped by his lonesome? I'm going to enjoy feeding this dude to the wolves. Too bad she can't use any type of armor, male though it may be. She just throat-stabbed a guard and took all his mail, but still has to use slippers and stuff -- it kinda sucks.

Yeah the Theresa DLC is basically a stealth segment (In a game whose stealth mechanics are iffy at best >_>). At least you get your own dog after completing it that will make hunting as simple as pointing at a rabbit and saying go fetch that shit

Don't know if you're playing hardcore but using a bow was a real pain in the ass on that mode once it got farther than a few feet in front of you

Oh, you press left on d-pad to use your sword and hold it to use your torch. I thought it was just the torch button, so Theresa went through her DLC as a bowman with a couple arrows, constantly getting slashed while her pupper was doing all the legwork. Would've been nice to remember that sooner.

As for archery, anything that needs 10+ levels to not be hot garbage is hard to view favorably. Might go melee for awhile and try doing a lot of sneaky stuff. Not having archery heavy in that mix will hurt (my Skyrim playthroughs almost demand it here), but we'll see how it goes.

Since I haven't done any pics in awhile, here's a bunch.
