I should remember to test that threshold if I ever write a guide for this game. The more I play, the more I want to.

Anyway, after helping the tailor give up his wicked ways, I helped the Ledetchko bathhouse whore relocate to Sasau to be Johanka's gal Friday. That one dude ambushed us en route, but I fought all three of 'em off, so that was nice (thanks, Headcracker!). Now, I'm looking for Pavel's treasure buried in the nearby woods. If this were earlier in the game, I'd consider ripping him off and even stealing his yellow hat, but I have over 100K now, so I'll leave well enough alone.

Alright, I finished Pavel's quest. At first, I thought I was going to miss his achievement (get treasure without alerting camp), but it turns out it pops when the quest ends. So...going back to do all those steps over again, including stripping naked for sleepy stab time, was unnecessary. It was interesting how there's 3-4 separate treasure stashes all around that camp, though, including some well-camouflaged spots.

I wish I could uncover the whole map without relying on Reading Lv12 or whatever. There's tiny spots in the map where the clouds cover things, and you're prevented from approaching by invisible barriers. In fact, when I went to Pavel's hidden treasure, that whole area was cloud-filled, so I think the game prevented me from going there earlier. (I was definitely there, since I stumbled on a poacher's encampment and murdered him when he got mad, lol.)

I think in this new quest, Johanka wants me to walk to some church while wearing a penitant's robe, then confess my sins and give 1200 groschen to the church. This...vision business is getting a little extreme, haha.

I haven't done the pilgrimage yet. Trying to get this missable trophy of committing all these sins for Johanka to judge me on. Had to go use some bathhouse wenches, get put in jail, and am currently trying to drop my nourishment levels low enough to get hammered. Maybe that'll work, since I already did the other stuff (kill Runt, kill other people, be a thief, introduce Stephanie to Li'l Henry). This seems like an incredibly annoying cheevo to get, honestly, but at least using a bath wench saves the game and removes fatigue, so...there's that.

Yeah, I gave some excuses to, but it only gives a little reputation back, so meh.

Before I do the pilgrimage crap, I went back to Rattay to do the next leg of the tourney. Then I remembered, "why don't I do that quest I skipped before?" I'm talking about aiding the executioner when Hanush calls in some out-of-towner to handle his jobs. We're concocting a plan to sabotage the executions with old rope, a dull sword, and poisoned torture implements. Should be fun, especially since I don't have to worry about the old "I can't pick very hard locks" stumbling block.

I saw it was timed initially, so I just reloaded and skipped it until now. I'm glad it wasn't one of the quests that auto-failed by advancing the main plotline. I lost a few of those, but they weren't too consequential -- stuff like a miller wanting Stephanie's jewels, etc. I wonder what would happen if I went to the nu-executioner's camp outside Rattay and just murdered them all. I remember seeing 'em out there when I did some main quest, haha.

Also, Hanush wants me to investigate some church dude in town and secretly sabotage his heretic hunt. I have no idea how this quest'll go -- it's completely new to me -- so hopefully that one's good, too. It certainly has the makings of a fun one.

Ahh, good to know it's timed. It shouldn't be too hard to do the executioner stuff, then do the Waldensians stuff. And if it effs up, I'll just reload a save and do it one at a time -- no big deal. Do you have to get the executioner sword before finishing up because their camp despawns?

Okay, I'm starting my sabotage now. How do I know if the sword is dull or not? Just run its condition all the way to 0% or something? I've used a grindstone twice in 150+ hours, so it's not something I'm too familiar with.

EDIT: Never mind, that worked. Now I just need to replace the rope and poison some tongs.

Finished the Waldensians quest, right in time for the weekly tourney. I was surprised that St. Michael's sword is kinda lame, though. It has 58/58/3 damage stats, but my Longinus' Sword has 68/53/3, so there's not much point in switching. Guess saints ain't all they're cracked up to be.

EDIT: Won the tourney, but it overlapped with the executions, so I failed that step and missed that achievement, presumably. Reload time...

Okay, time for Law & Order: Sasau Vicar Unit. Johanka's been imprisoned and a surprisingly judicious (hopefully) inquisitor is in town to try her for heresy. Before I let my knife do the talking and dump his corpse in the lake, not unlike Urban, I should try to get on his good side. Unfortunately, I flubbed and he found out that I was the one who snuck into the monastery, which led to a seven-day jail sentence.

When I play through this quest again, I'm gonna have to see what happens if my knife hand slips and murders all the witnesses against Johanka. To think even the blacksmith's wife -- who I've had zero interaction with -- was behind the rabble-rousers from before! I can pick any lock in this kingdom, so finishing the quest with extrajudicial killings and disappearances would be kinda funny.

Dammit, I didn't get any trophies for finishing the inquisition. Johanka got whipped and sent off to a convent, even though she recanted at the very end. I called more witnesses than an OJ trial and it still wasn't enough. I was hoping something radically awesome would happen to save her, like an apparition or Mary busting through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man, but nothin'.

"A Woman's Lot" is the best DLC of the bunch so far.
"From the Ashes" is the next substantial DLC and involves rebuilding Pribyslavitz.
"Band of Bastards" is a fun set of missions with some rowdy mercenaries and has decent rewards.
"Tournament!" is a weekly fighting tourney for unique prizes (equipment), plus can bolster your fighting stats.
The "Hans Capon" DLC was fun, but seems a bit slight by comparison.
"Treasures of...something or other" is just some maps that lead to Warhorse equipment.

Warhammers sound fun. I've mostly neglected blunt weapons my whole playthrough. I'm also interested to see how using spears would be, too...although I'm not sure if you can keep those in the inventory. Sometimes I stumble on battles and pick up slain foes' spears, but they're always "unholstered" by default.

Anyway, just finished Johanka's quest with a good ending. Nicodemus gave a Chamomile Brew recipe as thanks, plus invited her and Matthias to Pribyslavitz. Sounds like they won't actually appear there in the game, but it's cool that you can extend another hand.

Yeah, spears are occasionally used by NPCs and you can pick 'em up. I think you can attack with 'em, but aren't meant to be your main weapons or anything. I don't think any of the weaponry trees/perks are associated with 'em.

As for the inquisitor and my bright idea of murdering people to help Johanka, it didn't go very well. First, I tried killing the mouthy priest, but I could only knock him out. Threw his body in the river later. Then, I broke into the weaponsmith's house and kidnapped his wife, but couldn't kill her either. Just dumped her body in some woodsy flower garden. After that, I lockpicked my way into the inquisitor's chambers for stabby time, but instantly failed, haha. Kinda disappointing that they didn't have ways to work their deaths into the proceedings.

I retried the trial and got the worst possible ending (Johanka's tongue is ripped out after she's whipped, then she dies, then Matthias dies, lmao), but there's no achievement for it, so I just reset. Turns out the achievement I thought was related to it is actually for the devil bandit who's killing Skalitz-area travelers. You can dump his body down a mineshaft, too, somewhere and that's that.

I should do maces on my next playthrough. I rarely use combos as it is, so...oh well.

Here are the sidequests I have remaining:

  • No Rest for the Wicked (helping charlatan dig up graves)
  • Restless Spirit (exorcism in Ledetchko)
  • Rattay Tourney (win all the pieces; so far, just have gauntlets, I think)
  • The Queen of Sheba's Sword (find all the pieces and forge it anew)
  • Fat Profits (give boar meat to Sasau butcher)
  • Beggars' Feast (give Alex boar meat in Rattay)
  • Do Me a Favor - Punch Me! (fistfight some dudes for chump change)
  • That Talmberg huntsman quest that's glitched
I don't think winners of the Rattay tourney will have any further mysterious disappearances, though.

I wonder if he always lies in wait at the same spot, and if I could find him on foot (in the bushes, like other bandits) to stealth kill him. He ambushed me while I was fast travelling, but I wasn't paying attention, so I dunno if it's a 100% encounter or not.

Yeah, I won the tourney again by using a lot of masterstrokes. Didn't even lose a round this time.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I figured he might be stalking the mill, but at the same time, it's also the main road back to Ledetchko, where that other victim was from. Not sure if you can find him in a non-fast-travel situation, but it might be possible. I just met a pilgrim through fast travel, did the event (riddler), then went the wrong way and fast travelled again, only to meet the same pilgrim!

This is after he taught me a recipe for fake blood by giving some long-winded story he didn't even remember the herbs from. I wonder if I can finish his quest, kill him, then take his cloak.

Finished the charlatan's quest last night. Few quests are really laugh-out-loud funny, but this one was pretty great, with Henry having to talk to some hellhound to learn barks, then replicating 'em out in the wilderness. Doubt I can keep the unnerving noises for when I attack bandits, but damn, that'd be great.

Now, back to the Queen of Sheba quest. I know where a few are, but I only have one piece so far, and I think I bought it off the guy in Ledetchko or something. I hope that, since the charlatan (?) sold it to people, it doesn't end up being a complete piece of garbage when it's reforged.

(Even then, maybe you can pickpocket it from him anyway.) I think the Rattay blacksmith has a piece, too, so it'll be a short trip.

It's hard when you know where the stuff is? For me, it was way, way easier, since I already had all the keys and stuff. Maybe if my lockpicking skills were garbage and I did this earlier in the game, it would've been pretty crappy...not that this quest is great in the first place. It's the most fetchquesty fetch quest I've done in the whole game. After running around the countryside, now Drahomira wants me to order a cross at the Talmberg quarry...and only gave me 10 bucks to do it with! Almost took my sword out then and there.

Geez, these butchers' requests are getting stupid. I can understand hare offal or some deer meat, but 5 deer livers? Have they actually got off their fat asses and tried walking in these woods? By the time I get each one, half the livers are already halfway to being rotten -- and that's with the perk that slows that down! At least that beggar just wanted meat and some mushrooms. I'm curious what happens if you give this moron rotten meat, though, or if you can hand 'em in one at a time.

Oh well, I'm friggin' Robin Hood with this bow now, so a little extra hunting ain't gonna kill me. I just wish some of these animals appeared with more frequency.

EDIT: And now the butcher wants 100+ of every meat for his bailiff bribe, lmao.
