Days like today I really wish there were established start times, or at least a warning about off days. 8 pm start on Friday and 12 pm on Saturday, was popping in periodically all day to check and nothing... missing the excitement of a new round!

It's from Mobius Final Fantasy. A mobile game. I've picked it up recently and have been playing it just as a normal Final Fantasy game (ie not grinding the drops and stuff just playing through the story as the gated stamina allows) cause it actually has fairly decent writing

Basically you progress through a map with nodes that require "stamina" (recovers at 1 per 5 minutes). Each node has X amount of battles that you gauntlet through, often there's a boss at the end.

Fights are 1v1, though I believe you can make a party for "raid" fights (I think you can do these single player?). You create a deck that has 4 special attacks. You use these special attacks by spending orbs. You gain orbs by doing normal attacks, which gives you random orbs based on a distribution from your class (drawn from the random gacha though you can get like 5 to start) and combat conditions.

There's normal damage and break damage on attacks. If you deplete an enemy's break gauge you basically get a similar state to FFXIII's break on them (they can't attack and take extra damage for X turns). You get X attacks per turn based on your speed/statuses, then all the enemies that aren't currently broken attack you. And combat proceeds like that.

I honestly can't tell you the full potential of the system as I'm still unlocking things and I rerolled when I started until I got the ability to use Sephiroth who is a rare drop and kinda broken so I've been facerolling most things (there was a fun Tidus Blitzball event recently that wasn't facerolly and sold me on the combat system definitely having potential for not being braindead) but it's fun enough for now. Recently I got the ability to swap between decks mid combat which could add a lot of depth.

tl;dr I'd put the gameplay above average for the FF series if you're not put off by the gacha elements. That's kind of a big if for a lot of people I'd imagine though-- the gacha seems pretty damn stingy. Although with the rigged class drops to start I'm pretty sure you don't particularly need them to just play through the story.

Oh and uh the big thing to note is it's mostly its own thing. It's not a fanservice game like other FF gacha games. You may not get it from that screenshot since Tidus is yapping away but like Tidus only appears in that FFX event (or if you randomly roll the super rare Tidus character-- of which there are only 6 that's not really the core of the randomly rolled stuff in the game and if you use the character the Mobius MC is still the one in the cutscenes) so most of the game tries to stand on its own story and characters. It is fully voiced and has the FF feel though so when you get something from the mainline FF games it feels authentic. James Arnold Taylor still voices Tidus for instance.

Luckily as said said story and characters hold up decently well. And I'm the guy who thinks Final Fantasy Brave Exvius's story is utter garbage so I'm not the type to just accept anything on this front.

Mobius honestly has the best events out of all the mobile games I play, they're just so well done. Even the ones that aren't collabs of other FF games, which is what the FFX one is considered as.

This is mostly how I've been playing, but you can just auto the mundane grinding. The main thing is that you want the break 9999 damage cap on your ability skills unlocked so boss fights don't take forever.

Though you can always just use ability tickets to instantly raise a cards ability level.

I actually took a break from the game for a couple of months, but I decided to come back for the FFX event.

While I haven't really looked too much into it, they actually overhauled the gameplay completely later on for the Season 2 story. I read that kinda like FFX's with the turn order, and that it's less damage crazy.

One thing I should note is that the Season 1 story is completely done for us.

I'm sure you can but then it becomes another mobile game (of which I'm at critical mass on) rather than a normal game so I'm avoiding doing it.

Also the mobile game looks pretty similar to those screenshots if you have the hardware for it. My phone's resolution is higher than those screenshots.

To call Cyan's history mediocre would be overselling it - in nine appearances, Cyan has managed more boots (3) than top half finishes (1), and that one top half was only just. It's been bad enough that this is a decent improvement for him - Cyan goes up from 23.54% to 24.59% - but he fails to pass anyone, staying at 106th and in the bottom 10.

I feel like if Cyan was even slightly better gameplay wise his stats would be quite a bit better

I think Cyan hits a lot of negative points at once.

He's bad in gameplay
Character arc is kinda lame after the initial Doma stuff. Never really gets a proper payoff to said Doma stuff either.
Not very prominent in the story

His personality and design are really all he has going for him and those are going to be hit or miss. Cyan with gameplay is probably Relm level or Gau level

I'm saying if he had good gameplay he'd probably be about as strong as Relm or Gau since they have good gameplay and not much else.

Oh, adding Relm there confused me. Like I guess she has the highest natural magic, but with Esper stat management everyone can fire off 9999s, so that's not really much of a thing.

If you're at the point where you're 9999ing with everything then gameplay is kind of a moot discussion point but Relm is pretty good before that point. Sketch and Control are fun abilities too.

Saying Cyan would be Gau level strong or popular is not much of an improvement >_>
