I'm fine with allowing next contest save deals. There's nothing wrong with them in principle; they fit under the same "let the buyer beware" principle as all save deals. If you trade with pj, you run the risk that he forgets about the end of the round. (sorry pj) If you trade for next contest, you run a much bigger risk: people may leave the board, they may be busy and miss nominations or rounds, who knows. But you can decide up front whether you're willing to take that gamble. So it's fair.

But I'm also too lazy to make next contest deals so I'm fine with them staying banned.

Next year trading can impact a final and possibly some stuff next year, but even if everybody who made the deal backs out the next year it doesnt change all the bought saves being added to one or both sides.

It changes whether people are willing to make the deal in the first place. I'll save trade with anyone, but I probably wouldn't make a next contest deal with anyone but a good friend.

Yeah swordz your assumption is that everyone and their grandma is going to be making/taking these hypothetical future deals where it's far more likely to be me and maybe a few others- others with nothing left to fight for who maybe want a niche character to make the field or perform better next time around. However given that several users here are either indifferent or opposed to the idea I seriously doubt bringing future trading back would do the damage you think it's going to do. Think of pre-Steiner contests. How often did future trading become a thing? How influential was it when entire factions couldn't employ it and how contest-breaking was it when like 3 people total used it?

We already have "wink wink nudge nudge" future trading like how MWC promised like ten people that he would love to help their characters someday just as long as he could move on after Cloud got his win. I'm still expecting the former Cloud alliance to eventually form up around Vincent like they promised and guide him to an easy win this year. That stuff is bad enough. No need to make it even more blatant and out of control by making it legal.

Im not saying everyone will do it, but Im not gonna approve of it not matter how you spin it. Its not my call, but Im never gonna support it or participate in it because its dumb. My #1 was murdered by you lot eating up mountains of future save promises after all so uh never gonna be on the side to find it ok

Winning someone's 10 votes in a finals is a big deal, a Tidus fan should already know this after vchar flipped Inviso's finals saves which directly caused his win over Kefka.

There will always be plenty of people available for Finals votes who don't care about the 2 remaining which would make the finals just a contest of who can sell their souls the most. Finals should be between the finalists.

That's fair enough. Nothing was ever going to stop Steiner that contest, but matters weren't helped by so many people believing the hype and cashing in while they still could. I ask simply, can that same thing still happen if it were just Chris wheeling and dealing as opposed to Chris and all his friends, and sometimes Chris on his friends' behalves? I think not, and I rest my case.

All that said, I'm a little weary of this discussion and am eagerly awaiting the round.

Well Id point to what GMUN said above for that where literally just 1 person changed the outcome of the final.

I like to keep it simple with the only future being an Nr paid back the following round by the person who offered it. None of this back my guy and Ill back your horse in Save My Disney or whatever else people offer up

imho lefty should announce what times a day's rounds will be

scattered times would be fine if we just knew when instead of always being alert >:(

I just want to point out that this is factually incorrect. GMUN (and everyone else apparently) recalls charon flipping Inviso, but nobody ever brings up the fact that FFD who said he wouldn't have voted otherwise cast 10 Kefka votes to counterbalance what the two of them had done. If I recall somebody else (I feel like it may have been our current host?) even voted for Kefka 4 or 6 times (however many times Inviso COULD have potentially voted him) to carry out what Inviso wouldn't. So really charon and Inviso's efforts accomplished nothing there. Those votes literally didn't matter.

And I'm not even sure what that has to do with future trading because charon didn't give Inviso anything for it to my knowledge. And I certainly didn't. The only thing I promised was to not save Tidus the following contest, and I feel like I only did that after Tidus had secured a victory, but I could be wrong I suppose. I guess what I'm asking is... how is any of this even relevant to the current discussion?

The point isn't about auditing Tidus vs Kefka, it's that finals are close matches and adding/removing +10 votes from a single voter is a huge impact - the vchar-Inviso flip alone was an affected cost of 16-17 votes

This dumb drama shouldn't be a thing, there's no reason to inexplicably open the contest up to become more vulnerable to it - contest "regulars" already have more advantages than they should. Like arguing "oh FFD added 10 votes to combat it" is an awful defense, if FFD wasn't going to save Kefka FFD should not have saved Kefka, we shouldn't have to rely on individual actors to cover the cost of somebody else's manipulation.

Im not sure why you want them to be a thing. Theres more to lose by allowing them than not. Like without them we can avoid lots of dumb drama and wheeling and dealing (though Im sure some could still wheel n deal through other means that cant be proven if they wanted to, but hopefully nobody really cares enough to do that)

Really? We're literally allowed to message each other about rounds because it's too difficult to prove and everyone's in a cabal.

But again I'm someone that's been morally opposed even to the concept of trading for years so my idea of what advantages "should" exist are on an extreme of purity. Although vchar used to be with me on popularity & friendships effects on contests!

This is almost certainly the most boring appearance Ultros has ever had - in eight prior contests, he's managed to be involved in three separate lawyering incidents, one of which resulted in what was nearly a finals appearance in the strange goings-on of CXIII.
Aside from that big run, though, Ultros' STATS are fairly middling, and so he goes from 49.63% to 45.56%, dropping a whopping 11 places in the STATS to 57th.

Now that it's finally caught up to him, he gives up nearly everything he gained last year, going from 56.02% to 53.92% - .06% above where he was two contests ago - and dropping two spots to 38th.

It's not like the finals are always "pure" to begin with. I'm not sure if it happens as much in this contest, but I know in SMDC once you reach the top 10 or so, it quickly becomes a battle of what overperforming weakling can I drag to the finals with my main so that it can get an easy victory. Easily my least favorite part of it all.

Rinoa has had a somewhat bizarre history - in her eleven non-boot appearances, only one of them was in the bottom half. Without those three boots, her performance would leave her just outside the top 20 in the rankings. Of course, those boots happened, so she'll have to settle. Rinoa gives up everything from last year (and then some), going from 56.51% to 53.54%, dropping 3 spots in the STATS to 38th.
