I haven't run into any of those actually. My friend list is full of Sephiroth, Reagan, and the occasional Barb or GLSakura.

So what are the actual good units for each role these days? I was thinking about maybe trying to tackle some of the 3* Espers, but I havent actually attempted to clear any content in like 6 months.

Really depends on the trial. Pretty much every 3* esper has a 100% dodge tank involved from what I recall, and a magic tank with up to 200% Resistance to the espers element (differs for each particular one).

Some are gimmicky like Carbuncle and I believe Shiva, others are really easy (Siren, Titan, Lakshmi).

Fryevia is the chaining queen right now, assuming Ice isn't resisted or there isn't another element that will work better (most of the espers have that particular elemental weakness so she won't shine for all of them).

Healers are still Ayaka and CG Fina. I personally prefer Fina if stop isn't involved because I like her kit more, but you can't go wrong with either.

WoL has generally been my physical tank because I can't get Basch. Chow (or now Awakened Rain too) are both at the top for magic cover.

Right now I think Lid is kind of in a class of her own for breakers until Loren's 7* hits. Lid will have an extra 5% on Loren, but no versatility in her kit.

Chainers haven't really added anyone new aside from Sephiroth and Reagan. TDH FD Tidus is also really popular if you can set him up.

For buffers, CG Nichol has made bards pretty much obsolete.

I know there's something(s) I'm missing here, but I can't think of it right now.

Hmm. I have Ayaka and Basch, so Im set on those roles, and I have Nichol, so that should be fine too.

Last time I played I was just rolling with A2 chains, but there arent too many A2s on my friends list anymore, so that might not be an option. Might be able to do TDH Tidus though.

Loren is very usable as a 7* with her arsenal. If you eventually get better units or step into the W-TDH meta you can retrofit her as a debuffer.

Come to think of it, it makes it tempting to 6* this one for a while so I have a Wind/Lightning chainer/imperiler that works well with BSS. Something to consider at least.

She's awesome. She'll likely be a permanent member of my team for harder content when her 7* drops. Lid is nice, but very limited in what she can do. Loren's breaks are a little lower, but she can do so much more. Since this is Gumi, they might delay Loren's 7* though (I believe she was in batch 2 in JP), so you probably have plenty of time to keep using Lid.

I guess I'm wondering if there'll be any niche use for Lid, or if I should just save the gil when she gets released and not 7* her. Because I'm really, really not seeing how Lid would ever have a use over Loren, unless Loren's other support moves wouldn't have a use for me. Like, y'know, if I never use Light, Lightning, or Wind damage (which are pretty much the only elements I use like ever).

Ah well, I'm probably more salty that it was my only rainbow. Like voltch, there were other units I would've liked, even for 7* instead of new, but I'll take what I can get. Next Friday will be where the salt really flows, as I'm going all-in on FFVIII.

speaking of 7* units, do also keep in mind that the current "best" list is going to change very soon because we should be getting that upgrade next month. 7* Gilgamesh and probably Olive will top physical charts, 7* Dark Fina magical ones, etc. if you're looking to clear content and aren't in a rush, this isn't a bad time to run through the raid and the cactaur weekend so you can just pump a bunch of cactaur and be ready to rush 'em.

also something i noticed: the raid gives out 10% Moogles as its rainbow drop. easy raid, easy money, exp, and moogles.

I know its 3 million to 7* it, plus whatever the costs are for fusing units to level them. I think STMR is something like another 3 million too? I dont play JP so I dont know for sure, but thats what I recall hearing at least.

Yeouch. I think I'm gonna need whatever technique Fiyun uses to get his obscene amount of gil. Unless it involves the Friend Point summon. I think I tried that twice before I decided it wasn't worth the time investment.

to add to this, raids are super important to keep beating the crap out of when you get a chance. you've got 10% moogles, 5% moogles, TMRs of the SO characters (if you care), can sell all the turtles, and can enhance the cactaurs to make multiple 4.5 million EXP units.

...it takes 8.5 of them to level up to 120. that's why i've been farming the cactaur dunes pretty hard right now as this gives me a chance to make myself ready to do 7* Olive and 7* Dark Fina from the word go. after that i... guess i gotta work on Gil? Genji Glove isn't nearly as useful as it used to be but i should be able to moogle the second one just fine. the one i totally know i'm not gonna be able to do properly is Marie as i don't have any Rainbow Robes yet.

Anyone got a link for updated attempts for trial team building? Was going to do Bloody Moon and up, but the wiki uses older team suggestions, so just curious if newer units will make those trials easier and which are good options.

would be curious on that too. i haven't really played that much of the game since May and even then i was kinda just logging in for most of a month with occasional bursts. the 7* meta's part of what's getting me back into it since it'll let me easily run through earlier content and any updated versions will probably just be "and ___ is better at this role." more Tornado users, more chains, etc.

I ran it with:

Basch: Magic tank
Noctis: 100% evade provoke tank
LB Fina: Healer/MP Battery
BSSakura: Finisher
GLSakura: Chain damage
Friend GL Sakura

Any magic tank should work in Basch's place, although Mystea might need some damage mitigation, I'm not sure. The 100% evade tank just needs to be able to Provoke and draw in the normal attacks, but evade isn't necessary if you use someone like WoL or Wilhelm with good defense and HP. For your healer, mostly you need Reraise (especially for the phase transition) and MP sustain. If you don't have a healer with the ability to DC Reraise to get it on everyone (use Genji shield and Safety bit to cut down on the Reraises you need to cast), you can also use Rikku's Limit Break. Since I had both in LB Fina, I was able to bring a finisher for added damage, but it's not strictly necessary. As for your chainers, any non-elemental damage that doesn't rely on Black Magic will work. GLSakura is still really popular for this, as is Trance Terra.

Maybe lay out some options so we can comment on what you have? My team above lacked the ability to get Crazy Day, but I was able to clear the other missions no problem.

How did I not know that Reload was a thing? Seriously, I only just realized a day or two ago that the Reload button was a thing. This would have made so many thing so much less tedious. Holy crap.

Also, just looking for opinions. I've looked ahead, and the only banners I'd actually be interested in pulling heavily on are the upcoming FFVIII banner, Livid Shantotto, and Valkyrie Profile if we get it. Beyond that, nothing would interest me other than dailies. The problem is we've got this Universal Bundle that's a great deal for people who do 10+1 pulls, and with FFVIII being so close, there's no way I can get enough Lapis to make more than three pulls on the Step Up. So since I'm going all in on that banner anyway, the choice is between getting all three of the Universal Bundles, with a bit of lapis leftover, or go gung-ho on story for the next week and hope I get enough lapis for three pulls on the step-up banner? There's no way I'm buying lapis (especially at what it would cost to get the last two step up pulls), so those are really the only options I've got.

And maybe it'd be better to wait and see what the three step ups are, assuming we do get FFVIII this week. Gumi might just Gumi. But just in general would I be better going for one or the other?

Favorites. I'm past the point of wanting to chase meta units, especially with 7* incoming. I realize chasing favorites isn't going to be much better, but if I'm going to chase something, I'm going to make it a unit I appreciate having because I like them, not because they're impressive in the meta. Since I don't spend much money on this game, my chances of getting a 7*, much less an STMR, are pretty small. So if I'm going to have to accept whatever 7* units I get, I might as well get them chasing units I'd like to have, even if they're not ideal.

Besides, as I said, I pretty much wait for content to be power-crept anyway, and I already have an acceptable spread of 7* units anyway. Not ideal by any means, but what I'd consider good enough for how much I play.

Squall we are waiting for his enhancements, since I am not sure Gumi can do enough to sway people besides his STMR is really nice. (Bad mods. =_=.)

Limit banners have a shot at Mixer for 7* awakening crystal which is an option later on.

Fina: Better rotations with Divine Veil, Shining Cheer and Manatopia. Can Reraise whole party cheap.

Ayaka: Stop proof, can unstop people. Can lay on timed stop proof for everyone soonish. Will be barrier-girl later. Harder to kill to boot.

I have only 1 10 man trial left and I'll officially be done with all 'end game' content for now.
Got my 4th lightning so she joins the STMR team along side CG Lasswell and Oldmandu. I might hold off on getting oldman's STMR if his 7 star is good. I'll just use 2 of them for chaining. If he's not that good then I'll just stick with my dual fryevia set up for now and pull hard for Hyoh.

The W-ability TDH 7 star meta is for real and everyone should be pushing to get gear for that.
