Joe and Mika got a call that the National Enquirer was going to run a negative story on them, Trump is friends with the guy who runs it, so the caller said if Joe apologizes to Trump for their coverage then Trump will get the story scrapped. Calls kept coming in from the administration telling Joe "just pick up the phone and call him!"

Mika says the Nation Enquirer were calling her children, close friends, pinning some story on her ex.

Because technically states can't make something that's federally illegal legal, right?

It mostly boils down to the arguments from Gonzales vs. Raich. That case specifically allowed for the regulation or marijuana under the Commerce Clause justification. Thus, the Supremacy Clause applies when considering regulation of pot; Federal law overrides State law. Pot is still illegal under US Federal Law.

However, states are under no specific obligation to enforce Federal Law with any vigor. State law enforcement does not have to cooperate with the Federal Government to find and prosecute Federal law violations; it can't obstruct the Feds, but neither does it have to put any effort into enforcing said laws. Thus, state law enforcement will generally ignore any use of pot that is legal under state law, and not inform Federal authorities of said violation. However, should it come to the attention of Federal authorities, they have the full right to prosecute under Federal law.

Yeah what it comes down to is that the federal government won't have enough resources to arrest/prosecute people in the legal weed states. However, I am guessing that the strategy will be to hit the major growers/distributors HARD to the point where it will become impossible to really corporatize it. Ironically, this is what a lot of marijuana advocates want to happen--make everything local/organic.

I get how the Commerce Clause would work for the Feds to regulate inter-state marijuana commerce, but they ruled that the Clause even applies to intra-state business? Jeez.

Worst part is that the court refused to hear the case until a group - including several high profile politicians, such as Gov. Abbott and AG Paxton - threatened to make sure the judges were primaried.

Plus just in general the 10th amendment holds only a little bit of weight in light of the 14th which greatly increased the federal governments power.

The grand conspiracy theory is that the libertarian-con argument against immigration is just code for wanting to repeal 14 for other reasons, while claiming to want to simply repeal birthright citizenship.
