Yes, go to college for at least four years, since you need a college degree to get ANY sort of worthwhile job in today's job market. Then apply for a job when there are very few openings due to the older work force living longer and not retiring. THEN you'll be able to get healthcare, which thank goodness you have because you have to pay off the debt from your college loans. Yes, Corrik is right. People who were born poor have such an EASY way to not be poor anymore. It's a surprise they don't just fix their problems right off the bat.

I feel like Corrik's stance on health care run contrary to his desire for entitlement programs to "give people a hand up, not a hand out."

If people can't afford health care until they get a "serious job," that HEAVILY decreases the likelihood that they'll ever reach stability in life unless they manage to stay 100% healthy.

Also, if you want not-snark, my brother worked as a waiter for the entirety of last year

He made enough money that he could, theoretically, move out of my parents' place if it were a sustained, guaranteed salary (And he weren't going to school).

He worked 35+ hours most weeks.

His job did not offer health insurance (He had it because he's under 26, and thus can be on my parents' plan. But he worked with people older than 26, who aren't eligible for that)

So in conclusion, you're just fucking ignorant.

--Pizza Delivery
--Librarian
--Editor on college paper
--Copy store coursepack editor
--Poker Tournament Director
--Overnight stockperson at major chain
--Substitute mailman
--Haunted Hayride worker

Not saying most of those jobs should come with great Health Care benefits, but I was doing those jobs to survive and had zero health insurance ever and would have really appreciated it.

Yeah, I didn't get healthcare working at my college bookstore. I get healthcare at my current job, but I'm also well-aware that I got my current "serious" job in large part because of the following factors:

A. I was born to an upper middle class white family that could afford to send me to college, where I was able to attend classes for eight years and get my Masters' degree without becoming a complete financial burden.

B. My upper middle class family has strong connections to the state government, meaning I had an in with the state when I applied for my first job, that a lot of poorer people aren't going to have when trying to break into the workforce.

I work hard and I'm a good employee, but I fully admit that I wouldn't be where I am today if not for a LOT of lucky breaks in the family I was born into.

I got health care as an Office Max Cashier. Walmart Cashier. Giant Eagle stocker. Kmart cashier. Ponderosa dishwasher.

My experience says you are lying. I know at walmart they specifically well tell ppl during hiring that the job is parttime and will be 30 hours a week to not pay healthcare. Full time has healthcare. I bet full time at all these jobs has it unless under the table. Which a haunted hayride worker likely was.
