Several shows on Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-In Tour have been canceled after the release of a photo depicting the comedienne holding up a fake decapitated head of President Donald Trump. Many venues around the country are now cutting ties with Griffin over the controversy.

As Gossip Cop reported, a photo of Griffin holding Trump’s head after a beheading went viral on Wednesday and the comedienne has received a ton of backlash over the shocking image. Trump himself responded to Griffin’s photo, saying she “should be ashamed of herself. The comedienne later released a video apologizing for the image and admitted she “went too far.”

Despite her apology, five shows on Griffin’s comedy tour have been scrapped by the venues slated to hold them, and it’s possible more cancellations will follow. The comedienne’s two scheduled shows in California on June 16 and October 13 have been axed, as has a planned July 22 show at Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque. The St. George Theater in Staten Island then removed Griffin’s November 2 show from its schedule, while the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ has canceled her scheduled performance on November 3.

The cancelation of Griffin’s comedy shows is just the latest blow to the comedienne’s career as a result of her scandalous Trump photo. Earlier this week, toilet company Squatty Potty dropped Griffin from its upcoming ad campaign. Shortly later, CNN announced its decision to fire Griffin from its annual New Year’s Eve show, which she had co-hosted for nearly a decade.

a toilet company even dropped her from their ad campaign

Yeah it wasn't too far. I mean yeah her standing there with that smug look on her face made me want to punch her but it's still her right to do it. I mean I can't say she went to far with her joke and then defend Tosh for saying a rape joke. It's like they say either it's all acceptable or none of it is. I prefer all.

Considering you can technically be arrested (or at least legally harassed) for even making jokes about killing a President, she really kind of did.

Regardless of where your politics stand, she was pretty much stone cold fucked the moment she did it.

Anyway, I thought it was fucking stupid because, other than the photo, I didn't see the point of it. It wasn't funny. It wasn't thought-provoking.

And then Trump had to go and cry about how his kids were upset about it. I would've given him credit if he had said his kid (singular) was upset about it, but apparently his 30-somethings can't handle it.

The Ted Nugent parallel is what makes me shake my head about this whole thing.

Left-leaning celebrity makes a video clip with a mock-up severed head? Gets dropped by advertisers and slammed by all and sundry.

Right-leaning celebrity makes remarks literally calling the President a "subhuman mongrel" and advocating executing him via hanging (along with a vague threat that he'd kill Obama himself)? Gets invited to dinner at the White House by Trump.

There seems to be a bit of dissonance in these reactions.

Damn right. I will defend a persons right to be offensive to the end, especially as a comedian, being an aspiring comedian myself.

If a comedian makes a racist joke, a rape joke, a murder joke, an abortion joke, I completely support their right. That's part of comedy. That's part of being a human. Just trying to make somebody laugh, and if they're not going to laugh, make them make either of these faces: :O or >:O

Just to make this clear, I think Kathy griffin is incredibly unfunny and I have always hated her.

Also, if you're going to be this comedian you better know the backlash that comes along with it whether you're Sarah Silverman or Gilbert gottfried. Eh, that's debatable. Backtracking and apologizing just because you didn't get away with something is pathetic, yes, but mistakes happen, and it's certainly not unheard of to cross a line without noticing or meaning to. I'd be cool with an apology there, because they're actually apologizing for making a mistake, as opposed to regretting being caught doing something wrong and trying to weasel their way out of the consequences.

You don't have to imagine - in 2012 Ted Nugent literally said "If Barack Obama becomes the next president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year" and the lasting impact from that seems to have been an invitation to dinner by Trump.

The WH invitation happened years after he made the comment. Unless you expect that Kathy Griffin is never going to find work again, it's an insincere claim. Likewise, what could they even cancel of Nugent's? Does he even do anything besides NRA appearances nowadays? But sure, if we're comparing the two, Nugent's offcuff comments and allusions earned him an investigation whereas Griffin got a free pass from the government.

Can't believe people got away with saying that kinda stuff about obama either. I thought making threats against the president was a federal offense.

I thought the stuff trump was saying was out of line when he was running against Hillary as well, there should be some level of respect for our president (or potential presidents) no matter how much we disagree with them, or think they are the wrong choice.

But I guess that is why I am getting out of politics all together, it's just become too nasty.

And public reaction is public reaction. You have a right to say what you want, advertisers have a right to drop your ass over the shit you've said. Because most comedians need to work, they kinda have to backpedal and apologize if they want they want to get their careers back more quickly. There's nothing wrong with them trying to find work.

And, in GG's defense, he didn't know how bad that tsunami was or how leveraged the insurance market was in Japan. There was no way of knowing how badly that would backfire. And his 9/11 schtick was hilarious but obviously far too soon. That was just a stupid decision.

Let's call it what it is. It's a Twitter war with a dated comedian searching to regain social relevance by choosing an easy target— A move with all the subtlety of a fart joke.
On the other end, you have your current PoTUS. A self-aggrandizing sociopath that's relevance is only due to his fathers successes. Who left a fortune that his son, managed to piss away on frivolities like golden toilets. It was only saved by whoring out his fathers legacy by acting like a real life Ronald McDonald— using their last name on any product willing to buy.

Probably because Nugent didn't bring in a prop which he proceeded to violate? Visual imagery is more shocking, after all. Otherwise, calling a politician a subhuman mongrel breaks no laws (and GWB certainly got called similar names on a frequent basis) but threatening one is very much illegal.

http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/335949-ted-nugent-pushes-back-against-comparisons-to-kathy-griffin

And the supposed "threat" involved asking people to go out and vote.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06XVt6zEr9E

And his "dead or in jail comment"? It was in relation to the government coming after NRA members. After hearing the full context of Nugent's comments -- which I made the mistake of not doing at the time, instead relying on far-leftists to narrate the story -- there's NOTHING that would have warranted an investigation since the whole thing was talking about people voting and the ramifications for not voting.

First off, illegal is illegal. Second, if advertisers and shows want to drop her, good for them. And finally, and most importantly, shit of this nature with sick props, etc, should be reviled by all people. The fact the far-left was universally in an uproar over what's turned out to be Ted Nugent doing nothing shows the magnitude of their hypocrisy where suddenly they're writing stuff off. Keep in mind that the far-left are the same ones who routinely send death threats to advertisers to get them to pull funding from shows they don't like which, by the way, aren't "speech" as you like to pretend so much as they are illegal.

It's not illegal. It's protected right of speech. That doesn't however mean that there aren't consequences for doing it. Burning crosses/flags/even threatening your ex over facebook is all freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean you won't get investigated for being an idiot.
As far as I can tell the Secret Service (not the media or left/right) is treating this exactly the same as they treated Nugent.

In one instance a woman held up a clearly fake prop of a president's head; in the other a man implied that he was going to attempt to kill the president if he got re-elected. I fail to see how one is any worse or more shocking than the other - they're both horrible.

Care to show that?

Care to show what?

And his "dead or in jail comment"? It was in relation to the government coming after NRA members.

Oh, OK, that makes it so much better. Armed insurrection in response to a democratically-conducted election is a laugh riot.

After hearing the full context of Nugent's comments -- which I made the mistake of not doing at the time, instead relying on far-leftists to narrate the story -- there's NOTHING that would have warranted an investigation since the whole thing was talking about people voting and the ramifications for not voting.

And your reaction to Nugent saying that Clinton and Obama deserve to be hanged? How about the time he shared a video that showed Clinton being shot and killed by Bernie Sanders?

The guy isn't exactly unambiguous here and his comments are every bit as trashy as Griffin's. The fact that you're willing to let him slide (including the fact the current president thought that this was the sort of high-class character that warranted a White House dinner invite) while simultaneously trashing Griffin says a lot about you, none of it particularly good.

Second, if advertisers and shows want to drop her, good for them.

I don't disagree - that is their right, after all. That said, there's plenty of right-wingers - including a couple on this site - who are totally against PC culture and advertisers dropping right-wingers for saying offensive things yet seem curiously supportive of the same process happening now that it's one of their own in the crosshairs.

The fact the far-left was universally in an uproar over what's turned out to be Ted Nugent doing nothing shows the magnitude of their hypocrisy where suddenly they're writing stuff off

The hilarity of you claiming leftist hypocrisy in the exact same sentence as saying that Ted Nugent did nothing offensive is magnificent. Following it up with a statement about how the left is evil for going after advertisers right after you expressed your approval for advertisers dropping Griffin is just icing on the cake.

Don't see why people are getting so upset over this picture. It's not like she's holding the real severed head of Trump.

I find it ridiculous that you compare CNN with stuff like GWAR.

I always associate her with her Seinfeld episode and just consider that character to be who she really is. It was kind of shocking when I realized she was actually more annoying and a worse person but the basic idea of her was accurately captured.
