It's also not unreasonable to think that the D'Backs will improve. Miller and Greinke had awful seasons last year and A.J Pollack barely played. That along with better health across the board and more depth could make them a surprise team in the wild card discussion.

...Wait, what? *goes back and checks* Seriously? The Rockies? I just assumed when I saw the former post that some people had irrationally high confidence in the Diamondbacks.

Well, whatever. Baseball is back. I can walk into my house and immediately start bitching about Craig Kimbrel, and it makes perfect sense. Seriously, I might stay going gray in my thirties if the Sox keep him as their closer for more than another year or two. It doesn't matter how much of a cushion we hand him, the tying runs will be on base by the time he finally nails down the save--assuming that it was even a save situation to begin with, because I'm almost certain that on at least one occasion and most likely more, he came into a non-save situation last year because he needed the work and another reliever ended up getting a save.

(It was a save today, though. Sounded like his fastball was really sizzling today, which makes that 1-2 curveball that he hit a batter with all the more inexcusable.)

And...thinking about it, I probably shouldn't be surprised at all the picks for the Red Sox to win the pendant or even the World Series; we've got a pretty solid lineup and a very deep rotation that will serve us well in the postseason. Bullpen is lackluster, but I feel like we can get around that. But I'm also glad to see that only one person actually picked the Sox to take the top seed in the AL, because I don't believe that will happen. The Red Sox will struggle early in the year, with Price and Pomeranz both starting the year on the DL along with their two top setup men, Tyler Thornburg and Carson Smith.

I predict things to go wrong for the Sox and it's gonna get ugly in terms of sports talk and the fanbase and media. We have all these young likeable guys, we shed the young unlikeable guy (Moncada), some old hands, great pitchers... but it won't take much.

I do like the "Dustin Pedroia: hall of famer?" rumblings I'm seeing. He's getting there.
