Cole Hamels out 8 weeks "oops"

Mets won 16-5 today. deGrom wasn't very good. The Mets have the worst ERA in the NL (though a lot of that is attributed to the fluke 23-5 game we lost where Thor got hurt after 1.2 IP and they used a bunch of terrible longarm bullpen guys, and a catcher pitched). Even that game aside though, the pitching has been struggling. deGrom walked 3 in a row and his command is usually impeccable.

Also man, the Braves new park is a goddamn bandbox. The balls fly out like its nobody's business.

Here's an article about the Mets injury woes since 2010 (but really as far back as 2014 and prior) and how rough they've had it and how awful the training staff has been since forever and it will probably only get worse and not only has it been bad but it comes long term to valuable players.

Another offensive explosion for the Mets last night. Of course if you are a mets fan all good news must come with bad news that is at least as bad as the good news is good, of not worse. As last might asdrubal was writhing on the ground in extreme pain after diving for a ground ball and rolling over is glove on his thumb.

Luckily x rays and MRI negative but it looked really bad.


Also Matt Harvey has been suspended for three days without pay for violation of club rules. He has been sent home. Adam Wilk starts today.

I know it bolsters your indignation to assume all the people being hurt are inattentive, but that's not really a fair characterization of the matter.

It isn't just people distracted by phones who are getting hurt, and it's a lot more than one fan or less per year getting hurt in this manner. Bloomberg examined the reports in 2014 and came out with a figure of 1,750 per year who suffer injuries from batted balls. Plenty are getting hurt whose only "crime" is talking with the person beside them for a moment when the ball or the broken bat shard come flying in. Some are even injured while paying complete attention to the game because there's still a tendency to get complacent with balls batted that routinely fly elsewhere.

1750 per year has to be like .01% of baseball attendees. And how are they defining "injured"? And I would bet most of them are because of fan negligence. Not all sure. But it is likely the majority.

The simpler way around this is a disclaimer pr something that says if you sit field level you have to be prepared for this extremely unlikely scenario to occur.

And I've seen the nets at other minor LG parks. They are incredibly distracting and ruin the experience. It's not worth it for how rare getting hit by a foul ball occurs

That is all fair jazzy but the unlikelyhood is so low. If you are afraid of that scenario why not put up netting around the whole field of play? Like what if you are in the OF and the same thing happens? Do you want netting to prevent getting hit by a home run ball?

Obviously the damage caused would be less than screaming foul sure but then I'm just saying why half ass it then? Anyone who supports extended netting should in theory want it extended around the whole ballpark logically since getting hit anywhere is rare

At Camden Yards there are little plaques all around that warn you about potential balls or bats entering the stands and they make an announcement about them before the game.
