You already turned me off with non-traditional tales controls and those awful graphics.
Did they shoehorn in a Zestiria-style crafting system?

The graphics on a technical sense are clearly the best they've ever been by a mile. Aesthetically I really enjoy the painted look they went for, it looks really good IMO and most reviewers seem to agree.

The controls can be fully remapped so I don't think any control setup issue is a legitimate thing to hold against the game. I actually like the default controls. Being able to move the camera while doing normals between artes is nice for keeping all the enemies on screen.

I'm loving the game EXCEPT the ultra scummy DLC. Outside of that I don't think I have a single complaint. They really did lock artes behind paid DLC costumes though and not just one or two but 18 (3 per character) and you'd need to pay 30 bucks to get all of em. Someone deserves a dick punch for that one. Hopefully modders put it in for free before long.

I know it's a comedy so it's doesn't matter but I find it odd that in Dragon Maid Shouta's dad is a former resident of the magical world who isn't the least bit afraid of dragons despite knowing that a single adult dragon could probably eradiate the human race alone if they wanted, and it's shown other people from the magical world (who are well versed in their strength) are terrified of dragons as a result.

TIL: Rider of Black is actually a guy. I had seen some of the merch, which was literally all I knew about the character. However, today I was trying to look up something related to another servant where I didn't know the name (it was Francis Drake), but I assumed they were likely a Rider-class servant from the pirate get-up and, while I was in that section, I noticed that there are only three Rider-class servants listed (which is fucking weird). And then I clicked Rider of Black's section to see what their deal was and... yeah, wtf?

Of course, the whole Francis Drake thing was equally wtf, considering that a real historical figure who was a guy somehow got gender-swapped (and there's apparently a section about them doing shit like that, which is just silly because there *were* female pirates/privateers, and they could have just used any of them).

Oh, Fate series, you so crazy...

I've only watched F/SN so far. At some point I need to check out some of the others. (And I tried FGO, but wasn't really interested.)

Since the original game already did it with Saber gender swapping characters from their source material is a thing that happens to various characters, and it's not limited to males changing to female, although that happens far more then the other way around.

And there are female pirate servants in Fate that were originally female to begin with, it's just that Drake isn't one of them.

FYI while I'm not trying to push you to play it, the story in FGO starts out really mediocre to plain bad, the main story doesn't actually get good until Chapter 6(?) Camelot, when the developers decided the game was making money and they were actually going to put more effort into the writing, of course, if you don't enjoy visual novels or fantasy sci-fi, you probably won't like it no matter what.

Yup, Fate has lots of gender swapped characters, and a couple gender questionable characters as well. I got Saber d'Eon right at the start of Grand Order, though since replaced them because they were more defensive than offensive.

Still watching Supernatuarl, up to s8. On the bright side, it's been a pretty easy september this year, since I'm not chomping at the bit for the season to end. I'll probably do Lucifer s6 after I finish Supernatural, then it'll be back to anime.

Picked up Caladrius Blaze for $2.99 U.S. on my PS4. Not as blatant as a game like Deep Space Waifu, perhaps, but still a cheeky shooter. Made by the Raiden people, though, so there is real skill required at any difficulty above Very Easy.

Also I continued reading The Dangers in my Heart tonight after starting it before Mangadex went down. Lack of meaningful things to do right now as we're at the most boring (imo) period of the year.

dyson sphere program is pretty great now, they've done quite a lot of QoL since it released. including blueprints and much easier mass placement of stuff in general. obviously it's nowhere near factorio's complexity and power, but 3d building is something pretty unique about it

Tales of arise is great so far IMO. A few frustrations like no individual strategy settings (so you can't tell one character to keep their distance and other characters to go in) and shitty DLC practices but man the game is just fun.

Kingdom is still great and realist hero is still good. They actually used modern military principles exactly in the latest episode of realist hero.

I've been keeping an eye on that one. It doesn't seem to be getting anything more than a 10% discount any time soon, which makes me think it's going the Rimworld route (similar philosophy to Factorio in that they aren't using sales to manipulate people into buying it, but easing up a bit on that so people that wishlist it will still be reminded of it), but it certainly seems like it'll be worth the price. I figure I'll take the plunge if it happens to go on sale when I'm in the mood to buy it.

I don't know where you are getting this from but the only arte locked behind DLC in the entire series is a mystic arte in zestiria. The arte related costumes in vesperia can be gotten from the 200 man melee as mentioned. And again it's not like 1 or 2 artes, its fucking 18. That's like a 5th of the artes in the game. The costumes also ain't cheap, it's 30 bucks to get all 18 artes.

The Dangers in my Heart has been a blast so far. Around Chapter 28. Read like 20 chapters in 1 sitting. The amount of additional artwork the artist puts in to her releases is really wholesome. The synergy between the two main characters is so comfy.

Went through about 4 or so anime in the past few months

Oregairu Snafu; I watched the 1st season back at the start of 2020 and liked it, then got around to Season 2&3 and it was enjoyable enough. I definitely like season 1 the most. 7.5/10

Appare- Ranman; I forgot how much I liked wacky cross-country car racing, and I enjoyed a lot actually. I didn't mind the slow start/build up to the race, but I wish the race itself was constant. 8/10

Wonder-Egg Priority; The first 7 episodes was a 9/10, and was really interesting. I had a lot of ideas and questions as the show went on. I was hoping for a sleepover episode with all 4 girls but that never came.

Episode 8 and beyond falls super hard. Lots of concepts and unanswered questions. 2 recaps in a 12+1 episode series. Episode 8- Special is like a 3/10

Overall it ends at like 6.5/10

Deca-Dence; I took a little longer to finish this but it's definitely the best show of the 4. Cool concept, execution, and consistency. Loved Natsume's and Kabu's dynamic, and Natsume in general. Fun ride all the way through

8.5/10
