Ive said it before, but I guess Ill say it again: Im not a fan of the whole Yamato Nadeshiko trope, and Yukiko is one of the purest examples of it in the list. I appreciate that shes able to be the pillar for her friends to rely upon, and thats she very smart and disciplined, but as like a person to just hang out with and talk to, ehhh, her most attractive element is her sense of humor, which, okay, not bad. I feel kind of bad, actually, for being able to talk about Yukiko in more detail than I can for waifus Im not as familiar with (I could talk about how her character development over the course of the game strengthens her as a person and as a waifu), but I guess thats the way it has to be. By the way, my P4 waifu was Rise, but I would have dated the teacher if that had been an option. Sadly, it took until P5 for that particular innovation.

I was sort of torn about how to judge Yukikos Girlfriendness, because she has a guaranteed really good job, which is good, but her job is super highly tied to a single small town. Ive never lived in a small town, is it nice? Literally my entire life has been spent living in Los Angeles, I think the longest Ive ever gone outside of it is like four weeks. Anyway, in the end, I decided that the positive aspects are more important, and so she got a good Girlfriendness score. Like, its obvious that Yukiko is going to be successful in life, but its also obvious what specifically shes going to do, which is to own and manage a touristy hotel, and thats fine. It makes for a pretty good score.

Anyway, yes, attractiveness. Obviously, everyone has their own perspective, but Yukiko is pretty good. I would actually say shes the most attractive girl in her game, although note that I played P4 vanilla, so if P4G adds a bunch of waifus, I didnt account for them.

There were a few VAs they couldn't recast for Golden. Teddie has a new VA, too, as does Naoto. Kanji's a weird case where they kept all of Troy Baker's original lines, but they had Matt Mercer voice his new lines since he can sound very similar to Troy Baker, so they didn't redo all his lines.

Let it be known that Tali was the hardest waifu for me to judge the appearance of. Do I use her suit version, which shes in 99.99% of the time, or that one photo of her without the suit thats a literal internet stock photo someone at Bioware altered in photoshop? In the end, I went with what was most favorable to her, which was the stock photo. By the way, dont look up her original concept art without the suit, that would not be quite as high, Im afraid.

Tali is this high largely based on the strength of her personality. Shes just a really fun, interesting, enthusiastic person who may or may not have technically given secret human technology to the quarians. Part of it is probably the setting itself, where all of your party members in the first game are like soldiers and mercenaries, and then Tali is just a normal fun person who doesnt have a tragic backstory. I wonder how many players didnt betray her and let the geth destroy her entire species purely because of Tali herself. Its completely shocking to me that ME1 Bioware thought no one would bother romancing her, but included Ashley as an option. Like, Tali is so clearly 2007-era waifubait, and it was apparently by accident?

I want to take a moment here, did anyone romance Miranda or Liara once Tali became an option? It doesnt help that ME3 only cares about three of the romances from previous games (Tali, Garrus, and Liara) and all of the others just get dropped if you did them. Doesnt Doesnt Jacob just start cheating on you and gets a woman pregnant, and thats how his romance ends? I remember something like that.

Anyway Tali isnt really an adventurer, her running around the galaxy fighting space monsters is a one-time deal (I guess a three-time deal), so I dont hold that against her. But what she is is like a space gypsy? Its equally bad, because shes still wandering around the entire galaxy looking for new technology and stuff. Even Shepard has a hard time keeping up with her, and he owns a spaceship. Do you know how many spaceships I own? Ill give you a hint: its zero. Like, yes, Talis prowess as a mechanic means she could easily get a real job, but she probably would rather continue wandering around the galaxy. Then therere the issues of dealing with quarians specifically. Talis always going to be sick after taking off her suit because of how her species interacts with germs, which is just its going to be a hassle, okay?

TWEWY is one of those games that appears to be just popular enough to get endless ports, but not popular enough to get a sequel. Too bad, but its still better than some of my favorite games, which arent even popular enough for the ports.

So, was Shiki an attempt to sabotage my rating system by nominating a waifu with two equally valid appearances and personalities? Because if not, thats an amazing coincidence.

Anyway, the jokes on you: Shikis normal black-haired nerd girl appearance is probably better than her transformation into her redheaded friend. Theres actually a shocking lack of nerd girls in this waifu nomination list, there are almost none at all. Why is this? Youd think weeby-ass Board 8 would be overflowing with nerd girl waifus.

Shikis personality is also sort of difficult to nail down. Her bubbly, fun personality is revealed as just an imitation of her friend, but thats still the Shiki we know for most of the game, so I dont know if I can reasonably use it here? But her real personality is a girl consumed by self-loathing and self-worth issues, but she overcomes that during the game to become more normal, so I just dont know. This is a difficult waifu to even describe the personality of.

But in complete honesty, I would say that Shikis fake personality would be kind of annoying to deal with on a consistent basis. Yeah, she works playing off of Nekus introverted jerk personality, but she seems a little unwilling to leave you alone sometimes? Borderline manic pixie dream girl. Her self-loathing personality would be a complete mess, and her I overcame my problems personality just makes her kind of normal, so I had to call this a wash. Sorry if thats unsatisfying.

Girlfriendness, though, well, Shikis skill is that shes a super talented seamstress. Thats not, like, the best job, but its still a reliable one. Its something, so I can imagine her as an adult contributing to society and being basically a normal, successful person. And since shes not really an adventurer by trade, that cant be held against her.

Overall? Okay waifu.

This is one of the waifus I most dreaded having to do the write-up of. I know FATE is this super complicated series with a million pages of lore, and Ive seen Rin posted a lot in memes, so I knew that researching her was going to take foreeeeeeeeever.

I think Rin is the first tsundere to drop? If not, shes the first pure example of a tsundere to drop. Okay, heres the thing Im loudmouthed and crude but secretly have a heart of gold and my reactions when flustered and Im forced to reveal my true emotions are extremely cute makes for a lot of really adorable moments, its true. And in Rins case, shes a bit more justified than most tsunderes in oscillating between personalities because she needs to stop normal people from learning about the supernatural aspects of her life, which is fine. Im not completely sure what I think of the mischievous elements of her personality, but I dont know. Im trying to look at these nominations purely as waifus and not as entertaining characters, so I think we need to draw a distinction between those things. I can obviously see the entertainment value of Rin switching between mischievous and flustered with the boy she likes, and slightly mean to others, but from a purely waifu perspective? Im not sure about that.

Anyway, Rin. I admit, Im breaking my own rules a bit with the semi-high Girlfriendness score, but I think its warranted. Rin is sort of an adventurer, but its not exactly a permanent thing, shes just involved in a magical war thing, right? Thats not bad. And since shes super smart and one of the greatest mages ever, Im imagining shes probably going to be in a good position for the rest of her life. It seems like Rin is capable of a relationship even with all of the wacky magical shenanigans going on in her life, which is definitely a plus.

I dont know if Ill ever play/read/watch FATE. Right now, Im completely VNed out, after having played all of AA, Danganronpa, and ZE in about a year and a half (except the Great Ace Attorney spinoffs and Professor Layton crossover). Is it actually good? Because I hear way more about the waifus and the memes than I do about their actual quality.

As far as the VNs quality goes, imo the story is good but the writing is bad (probably >50% of the text could be cut without changing the story). Id definitely recommend the (newer) anime, though.

So the purpose of the characters having sex is to regenerate the magic circuits of the MC or something (obviously a dumb pretext to force the scenes in), so for the anime they still have to resolve the magic circuit issue. Im actually thinking of the replacement of the H scene with Saber which, iirc, involves some sort of dragon in a completely incomprehensible plot point.

Rin is simultaneously loaded and perpetually poor, because her family's magic eats up precious gems. Her being a little greedy and focused on the trappings of wealth is one of my favorite character traits of hers.

I did know about her being rich, but I consider that to be only so important unless you're ludicrously rich, plus I knew that she still somehow has money issues. We haven't gotten to the "literal princesses" portion of the nominations, but we will eventually, and that'll be more important then.
