Always felt DB had a lot of what if/alternate story potential, like what if Piccolo had killed Goku, forcing the humans to step up and fight at the end of DB, what if Goku hadn't died during Raditz, what if the weaker Z fighters had fought together to win instead of losing one on ones from Frieza onwards.

So this was a pretty fun three chapters, and way way too short IMO. Would love a full series of someone with DB knowledge taking full advantage and fighting smart vs stronger opponents. Although he stopped at Cell Games it would have been cool to "the world's strongest human" taken a bit farther. Preventing Red Ribbon's total destruction/aligning with Gero, learning Kaio-ken from King Kai, getting the Android treatment...ah well. Good little read, regardless.

Finished watching every Sakura Wars OVA and Special. And boy were there a lot of them. Dating back to the 90s. Except the New York OVAs... motherfuckers subbed like 2 episodes then dropped the rest indefinitely. All thats left is the movie.

Finished Birdy II. Different beast from the anime, but I really enjoyed the world building in this one. And the ending was a good hook for Evolution, although I'll probably wait to read that once its finished. Definitely much slower paced, all things considered. 20 volumes/15 story arcs, and they scarcely even touched on what the main villain was doing, jeez. Guess Birdy really was off the investigation, lol.

The Supersonic Warriors games on GBA and DS had short what-if story campaigns for all playable characters. The DS one even had some route splits and alternate endings.
English translation was a bit censored when it comes to references of death and killing, but they're still pretty fun.

Even Frozen II pales in comparison to it sales wise. I'm upset though because it's going to make waiting for it in January that much harder.

This. Between the tons of features it had and the options for lower difficulty (including turning off permadeath, which used to be a hurdle that some newcomers found hard to get past) Awakening is the perfect game to get a newcomer to the franchise accustomed to the gameplay.

Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones, or Three Houses

I'll second Sacred Stones as another good alternative for newcomers. It still has the traditional Fire Emblem gameplay (including permadeath) but is a bit easier than the other pre-Awakening FE games to make it more accessible for newcomers. Also, it's one of the very few FE games that's completely isolated from any other game in the series, meaning no sequel, prequel, or even a tiny reference to another game in the series.

I can't agree with the other two he said though. While they're both fantastic games and definitely worth playing, Blazing Sword gets pretty rough and might be too difficult for a series newcomer, and the core gameplay of Three Houses is so different than all of the other games in the series that playing it first might give someone the wrong impression of what the entire franchise is like.

Ended up watching last week's Wandering Witch.

It turned dark really quickly considering the author said he didn't want pantyshots because "think of the children." This episode comes around with a town about to be destroyed by parasitic flowerfield and a sexually and physically abused slave that's implied to have killed herself because she was shown happiness that she could never have.

FE was literally do or die with awakening. There's no if, and or buts about it - Nintendo stated had awakening not been a success, FE would be a dead series. It 100% saved the franchise.

Yes, the Sword > Axe > Lance > Sword weapon triangle is a fundamental feature of most Fire Emblem games, although the recently released Three Houses was the first FE game in over 20 years to not include it. Some FE games (Sacred Stones among them) also have a separate weapon triangle for different types of magic, and then Fates expands the standard weapon triangle to include different types of ranged weapons in the same weapon triangle with the close range melee weapons.

Ah, you're still pretty early on. You're in for a fun ride in both games.

Also, just a heads up: Sacred Stones has two different routes you can take in the story after chapter 8, which makes chapters 9-15 completely different. That means you have to essentially play through the game twice to beat every chapter. Or you could just copy your save to another slot after chapter 8 but before you make your decision, so you can start from chapter 9 on both routes. Either way is fine.

You get the same units in both routes, but you recruit them in a different order and sometimes with a different method depending on the route. For example, a mercenary duo of Gerik and Tethys join in chapter 10 in one route (but require you to either keep them alive as green NPC's until the end of the chapter or recruit a third character in that same chapter and have that other character talk to them) but in chapter 13 (automatically from the start of the chapter without needing to do anything) in the other route. There are also four characters (two in each) that you recruit during one route but don't get in the other until the point where the routes merge back together. But to sum it all up again: there are no characters that you can only get in one route and not the other. None whatsoever.

Also, since you're new to FE and may not know about it, Serenes Forest is a fantastic resource for the series. It has info on every game, including character/class info, base stats, growth rates, recruitment methods, item locations, and much more. If you'd rather play the first time blind and avoid spoilers, don't use it yet because it obviously spoils a few things about certain characters. But otherwise, it's extremely helpful.

Same, I'm not a fan of that either. Some other FE games do have situations where you can't get every character in a single playthrough though. For example, Blazing Blade has a few points in the game where you get one of two characters based on certain conditions met before the chapter begins and you can't get the other in the same playthrough, while the DS remake of Shadow Dragon goes as far as to have extra characters you can only recruit if a certain number of your units have died before the chapter begins.

Ephraim is just a badass. Raids an entire army with 4 ppl, and it literally only fails because one of them is a traitor and would've probably succeeded otherwise. Can't keep the guy down

Sadly one of his guys Forde is infamous amongst FE fanatics for being hilariously bad. His little brother Franz is not only recruitable earlier, he's also given a lot more easy enemies to kill for exp, has better bases, better growths, better supports. You can use both, but he's also competing against one of the most powerful prepromote in the entire series Seth. Being on the horse automatically makes him not the worst unit because the trainee units are considered even worse. But yeah I wouldn't put too much on him

Considering how many sites they licensed it out to on top of being willing to put the show up for free on Youtube, Bushiroad must have a hell of a lot of faith that D4DJ will become popular and make a ton of money with its mobile game like BanG Dream did. But based on the first episode, I think it has a good chance to do just that. The characters are fun so far, and the music is hype as fuck. Anyone else going to check this one out?
