I love my kids and other kids can be great and fun too.

But it's also very important to only have them when ready and willing. It takes all you've got to be a parent. Anything less than that isn't fair to yourself or the kids. So there's no shame in not wanting to have them.

In theory the answer is "I don't like kids but if my partner wanted one I would do it for them" but realistically if my partner wants one that's basically going to be a dealbreaker as far as compatibility goes to begin with so I voted the dissuade one as that's probably more accurate?

I like kids a lot, and for whatever reason kids gravitate toward me. I take that as a sign that they identify me as a fellow youth and justify this as me not being ready to have any of my own yet. I would absolutely love to have at least one at some point in the future.

Best part about having a kid hands down is when you're feeling really crappy reading social media, comment sections, and getting bummed out in general over how cynical and critical the world is about EVERYTHING they can change that in an instant.

My son gets insanely, incredibly excited and happy and full of joy when we just drive underneath an overpass.

"WE WENT UNDA DA BWIDGE!!!!!"

And you immediately crack a smile, cause that is the purest of joys and makes you really take stock. He doesn't care about anyone's opinions, he doesn't have any context for what it is or why it's there, all he knows is that he loves it and he embraces it 100%. Kids seriously can teach you some incredible life lessons if you're prepared to learn.

I like them. Working at a school district in several schools, I'm around them a lot and they've always been nice to me.

I don't want any kids in the foreseeable future though, because I don't feel ready for the responsibility and I don't feel I can take on that responsibility anytime soon.

If you wait to become "ready for the responsibility," it's very likely you miss the chance to have kids. It's not something you can be fully prepared for. With kids, you learn as you go. Don't waste your chances.

I like kids in the 7 to 11 range a lot. I used to be a Scout leader for boys and girls and it was tiring but very fulfilling, and I had very good understanding with some of those kids. Being able to help a child in their formative years is super rewarding.

Kids of my own, who knows. Maybe. But that means several years of the kids being babies/toddlers and I don't like either.

I'm also done at 2 kids we are finally past the hardest part when they were super young so now that they are a bit older family trips are a breeze in comparison so I dont want to go backwards again in that respect.

I think if the timeline fit we would have considered a 3rd . My wife's career has finally taken off especially over the last year so shes really happy about that. Our daughters are both in gymnastics and my oldest does cooperative so I really dont think we would have the time for a 3rd.

It's a sad feeling sometimes to be honest

I generally don't mind kids, and even like them to some extent. I have zero interest in having kids of my own.

As I've gotten older, I've decided to just sidestep this conversation IRL when possible. Some people get surprisingly shitty/defensive if you mention not wanting kids, and assume that "oMg U hAtE kIdS!!" Maybe this is just another one of the American South's lovely quirks, but I've received this type of reaction multiple times and it's very tiresome. I don't hate kids, people, I just know Bosco Jr. would be a nightmare.

Sure, those who have a shit ton of kids definitely cancel out couples that choose not to, but they are by no means outnumbering them.

If you have 2 kids with someone, you're simply replacing yourself when you die and no more. You level out your effect on the population. If you and your partner have no kids, you leave a -2 on the population when you die. Or just 1, -1.
