I mean, as somebody who watched at least 150 matches out of that tournament, being good at randomized lttp won't make you good at an rpg.

But yeah, dude's hella good at lttp at least, which can't hurt. But I'm going to be asleep for almost the entire run lol

Estimate was 20 minutes. 1st place was over by around 30 seconds. 2nd was over by a minute

first over estimate run i've seen, unless any of the early "bad timer" runs were actually over estimate. and of course HG/SS was unfinished, but i didn't see the end of that one.

Despite the many problems, that HGSS run actually ended on time. He was on pace to be under the estimate for a successful Red battle as well so it wasn't just due to giving up on the final battle. I guess he padded the estimate since he knew lots of things could go wrong.

I was wondering if this MMX2 race was mislabeled because they seem to be grabbing a lot of shit for Any%. Then I remembered Shoryuken.

Yeah, any% and 100% in X2 are... I'm not sure they're actually any different!

I think the same is true in X, but I can't remember for sure. Not getting hadoken might be faster there actually.

The difference is getting the Zero parts, aka fighting the X Hunters in the regular stages. Took me a bit to remember that.

Has the setup for Tetris ever been under estimate? Tetris always takes a very long time to set up due to the hardware requirements but they only scheduled 20 minutes to set up an 8 way race.

Also I said the moment I saw the scheduled time that they didn't schedule nearly enough time. I KNEW they didn't. I don't know why THEY didn't know that.

He clarified at one point that out-of-bounds, clipping, or checkpoint manipulation through shenanigans was skipping. Jumping over to lower sections or taking advantage of reasonable hitboxes is fine.

He called the cliff jumps in the ski resort skips too, as well as the gap skip in Mushroom Gorge that millions of children used.

He talked about it a bit on stream. I don't remember everything he said, though. I know he said that skipping checkpoints isn't allowed. He also mentioned a trick that I think let you skip an entire lap that was not allowed. I think the skip he did was a "no skip" legal skip.

hmm. I assumed because Nintendo bothered to hitbox that rock that it was a semi-anticipated shortcut, but, then again, there was a random background wall that was supposed to be a skybox in Super Monkey Ball Deluxe that was solid.

Again, I don't know that for 100% sure though. It just looked like something to me that might not be allowed which is why I asked. My only source that it isn't at the moment is the reddit speedrun community but I don't know if they're right or not.

(I'm not complaining - I thought it was a fun run. I just wasn't sure if that was a skip or not based on the community guidelines)

Tetris always takes a while to setup (this block is supposed to be 25 minutes and the next Tetris setup is scheduled to be 20), but them having an 8 way race makes it much worse.

I've no idea why setup takes so long at GDQ in general though

Tetris has a lot of hardware to setup even for a one player set up. Trying to do an 8 player race increases the hardware requirements even more.
