Nah I'm referring to some legislation they introduced in the 90s that stated they would seek to limit the reproduction of dull or inferior people as part of a public health/family planning initiative, which AFAIK has never been reversed.

A lot of countries have had legislation like that (sterilization of the disabled or mentally ill, happened in the US and many other countries in the past, though not the population limiting one child policy), the current situation in China has just recently changed to allow people to have as many kids as they want (not that people in China want many kids these days due to cost of living and long work hours). However at no point was any of that for the purpose of breeding super athletes.

Idk about eugenics. I just know that the one 37 year old chinese dude that won gold in weightlifting grew up poor. both his parents were farmers. Basically a peasant

I think he is referring to the state sponsored doping they did in the 80s and early 90s, but that was extremely normal then. In present only Russia appears to be doing large scale state sponsored doping (that we are aware of).

Is this referring to those GMO babies that were modified to be resistant to AIDS (and possibly smarter)?

A. Those kids are too young to compete, they're only a few years old.

B. Those modifications likely don't help you in the Olympics much.

C. The scientist who did that was arrested (whether their government actually cares about what he did rather than reacting to the international outrage is debatable).

Their sports programs are extremely rigorous and recruit kids to special sports schools to devote their lives to sport and nothing else, but that's not eugenics.

The slums in china are third world rate, and they're very close to large cities in china. Slaughtered animals are sold in various wet shops across china... Hell the animals kept in captivity are mistreated and housed in very unsanitary conditions...

How the literal fuck could the who wholeheartedly believe that the disease didn't come from china when diseases like these have been an ongoing issue for decades

A. I lived in Wuhan when this happened. The conditions there aren't usually like you are describing. Yes there are places like that all around China, but Wuhan is pretty modern overall. The types of conditions you are describing are usually outside of major cities.

B. The WHO does think it came from China, they want to do a second probe there but the Chinese government doesn't want them to, because they really want to push the it didn't come from here narrative even though no rational person believes it. Nationalism is like a religion, their belief in Chinese supremacy allows them to ignore or dismiss anything bad and the government is all in on increasing and feeding nationalist sentiment.

I don't understand this.

I'm watching the "N film" The Swarm now. I see zero options to use original voices. It just lets me play it.

I'm not sure what language they should even be speaking. They look Italian so maybe that. But it has voiceovers.

When I am watching something it defaults to Japanese subtitles and whatever language it was originally (I live in Japan), but there are audio options on every show. In those options it shows various languages and subtitle options. However I am positive these are region restricted. Like I will watch an American show and my subtitle options will be Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Chinese. There is no way those are the options in America. It also has Japanese dubs sometimes.

Quantum mechanics behave probabilistically though. That isn't free will, that's just there are factors determining the outcome that we cannot predict beyond probability. Free will would require some external will force (basically metaphysical, a soul, or some other thing that exists outside the laws of the physical universe) to influence these factors. The concept of free will is really weird to me, I never got how people believe in it, but some people get extremely defensive about it. It's just a really weird concept that you somehow make choices in a vacuum separate from environmental and biological factors.

The main difference as far as I'm concerned is that China hasn't unleashed murder armies on foreign countries.

Depends on how you feel about them annexing other countries, but then you also have:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sino-Vietnamese_War
China, now under Deng Xiaoping, was starting the Chinese economic reform and opening trade with the West, in turn, growing increasingly defiant of the Soviet Union. On November 3, 1978, the Soviet Union and Vietnam signed a 25-year mutual defense treaty, which made Vietnam the "linchpin" in the Soviet Union's "drive to contain China."[50] However, the Soviet Union had shifted from open animosity towards more normalized relations with China soon after.[51]
On January 1, 1979, Chinese Vice-premier Deng Xiaoping visited the United States for the first time and told American president Jimmy Carter: "The little child is getting naughty, it's time he got spanked." (original Chinese words: ).[52] On February 15, the first day that China could have officially announced the termination of the 1950 Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance, Deng Xiaoping declared that China planned to conduct a limited attack on Vietnam.
The reason cited for the attack was to support China's ally, the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia, in addition to the mistreatment of Vietnam's ethnic Chinese minority and the Vietnamese occupation of the Spratly Islands which were claimed by China. To prevent Soviet intervention on Vietnam's behalf, Deng warned Moscow the next day that China was prepared for a full-scale war against the Soviet Union; in preparation for this conflict, China put all of its troops along the Sino-Soviet border on an emergency war alert, set up a new military command in Xinjiang, and even evacuated an estimated 300,000 civilians from the Sino-Soviet border.[53] In addition, the bulk of China's active forces (as many as one-and-a-half million troops) were stationed along China's border with the Soviet Union.[54]

What's weird is tankies just pretend the Sino-Soviet split never happened or support revisionist US ally Dengist China over the Soviet Union or claim the Soviet Union was revisionist. This whole period is awkward for them though because again China supported Pinochet.

Mongolia actually lucked out. The Soviets propped it up because Stalin originally supported the nationalists over the communists (he didn't like Mao). Later the Sino-Soviet split left China moving toward relations with the US and a lot of very weird proxy wars where China and the US were in one side with the Soviets on the other or the Soviets and US on one side against China. China actually supported Pinochet and the coup in Chile. The thing with geopolitics is that imperialist powers don't actually care what your ideology is. Just what they can gain from having you on their side.

Mongolia is still in a very precarious spot. Inner Mongolia is still controlled by China and they are cracking down on the Mongolian language and culture. China also still has the currently dormant claim to all of Mongolia. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get annexed in the near future.

You don't get the most millionaires and billionaires in the world with a PPP GDP median income of $17,000 through any system other than capitalism. Like you have zero concept of the massive income inequality and lack of social safety nets or workers rights in China yet you think it's some kind of utopia. He didn't read his own source:
"Compared to the relatively high satisfaction rates with Beijing, respondents held considerably less favorable views toward local government. At the township level, the lowest level of government surveyed, only 11.3 percent of respondents reported that they were very satisfied.
Again, the U.S. reveals quite a different story. American trust surveys over time show a clear distinction between low levels of trust towards the federal government, but a strong belief and faith in the power of local government at the most local level, those positions may be filled by part-time volunteers who are a part of your everyday life, said Cunningham. This dichotomy is highlighted by a 2017 Gallup poll, where 70 percent of U.S. respondents had a great or fair amount of trust in local government."

That's how the Chinese government operates. The corruption is systemic and flows from the top down, but they always blame the local government and scapegoat them (this was done in Wuhan last year). It's a good strategy for managing opinion to the central government but doesn't work out for the actual people since the corrupt officials just get replaced with more central government loyalists who are no better than the previous ones.

The degree to which they gave up on the illusion of one country two systems is pretty staggering. There was a time when it was seen as a viable path to get Taiwan to rejoin China. They would get the relative freedom Hong Kong had. This was under the more relaxed pre-Xi era where the Chinese internet was far less censored and criticism of the government was far more tolerated. Xi seems to have decided that isn't a viable path and opted for dealing with everything forcefully. The Wolf Warrior diplomacy, the Hong Kong crackdown, the renewed threats to invade Taiwan. This is the new Xi approach. It's debatable how well it will work, it seems to only be having a negative effect, but the anti-Xi faction of the CCP has been purged or silenced leaving no viable pushback. Certainly it will be interesting to see if Xi is followed by a Deng like figure as Mao was who basically gradually undoes the worst policies and tries to reign power back in (reintroduce term limits, allow factionalism in the party, make it easier to join the party again, etc.).

They're all using readings derived from Chinese (this is common in Japanese martial arts). The Japanese readings for Chinese are extremely limited due to the small range of sounds in Japanese (among the smallest of any language in existance) and lack of tones. Combine that with the one syllable per character standard in Chinese and you don't just end up with a lot of words sounding similar, but literally having the same pronunciation. (among others) are all pronounced shin when using the Chinese pronunciation in Japanese. The language continues to use Chinese characters for a reason (to tell words that sound the same apart).

Never read the English version but it sounds like a case of not bothering to translate things.

has the four subtypes of , , , and with the kanji telling you what they do pretty intuitively. So yeah if you just leave the terms in Japanese for audiences that don't know it, I imagine it's hard.

I like it better than Diablo 3. The story and setting are interesting and the build variety is absolutely massive.

How many hours did you sink into that?

I just do the daily quests (about 15 minutes) and any new content, so most days is just 15 minutes (you can't really grind gems, doing new content is the only way to get more outside event item exchanges, but you get those items from doing the new content so it is just a bonus). I am sitting on over 900 pulls worth of gems currently. Unfortunately the next collab looks to just be NieR Automata again, so going to be saving gems for at least another month.

For a mobile game at launch, the amount of individual items that can be levelled/upgraded/ascended is kind of overwhelming and team composition is going to be way more complicated than just "which 3 characters do I want to use".

I almost never do anything other than hitting recommended and then picking the element that's best for a given quest. Also nothing outside of expert quests needs anything approaching optimization. Peope saw my screenshot earlier right? I free play and have more max level characters and weapons than I could ever need, more money than I could ever use, and a shit ton of mats, memories, otomo, etc. Yeah it's six months from launch for me, but I have also done all the content in the game. You don't need any of that stuff to just do the story. Pick the recommended element (which is conveniently a listed mission for every quest) and let the optimizer do the rest. Use materials on your 4 star characters and weapons as you get them (memories as well, but you don't start with those unlocked and they primarily drop from events).

Say what you want but my Toyotas got 245000 miles on it and still runs great

Meanwhile my parents Nissan with 64k miles is on death's door.

I don't think anyone is questioning the reliability of their cars, just the stupidness of this ad.

I agree the gameplay is boring but I don't know what people mean by confusing. Maybe it's been too long and I was confused when I first started, but I don't remember being confused by anything.
