So my understanding is you still had to buy games? Like it wasn't a service like Netflix, you paid for games individually that you then streamed. I can't imagine doing that.

certain bits of data can always be misleading if you don't have the full story, too. my brother went to japan for a few years to teach english and he told me that their summer break is a lot shorter than here so I kinda assumed it meant they just have more school than I do. but then he said there's so many little holidays, half-days, days off for other reasons, etc that the total school time probably ends up lower

Yeah there are 16 national holidays. You get a legally mandated 10 paid days off a year, but many places give you more (I get 20). Most places also give you a week off for Obon. People are just in a circle jerk of telling themselves Japan has the worst work culture without bothering to actually do any basic research.

Despite the data I always found it hard to believe Japan can posses such a highly ranked and growing economy/gdp, quality of goods, cleanliness, attention to detail, maintenance and custermer service on the lv that it does. While somehow working less hour's then Americans do with more leave/time off.

Yet despite the above they still somehow do not have time or energy enough to ever feel like dating or even have sex? And would rather juat live a hermit? Hell most documentarys in regards to Japan and or Asian work culture usually supports the stereotype and I can think of no reason for them to lie, cherry pick, or exaggerate the topic either.

Most first world countries do all of those things. America is a pretty bad example of a first world country in terms of everything you just mentioned. Japan looks like an average European country in most of these areas. The stereotypes people have of Japan would more appropriately be applied to Korea or Taiwan, but people aren't basing the things they repeat on actual data.

This time and energy to have sex narrative isn't part of reality. Again they look like an average European country in birth rate. And your stereotype of Europeans is they just sit around doing nothing and living well off their social systems (when in reality their work hours and social systems are pretty similar to Japan). I covered this in my previous post, but no amount of saying otherwise will change the fact the low birth rates are a result of prosperity. The richer, more educated, more secure, etc. the less children you are likely to have. "Documentaries" are generally garbage meant to support a narrative and tell you a story the creators want you to believe or think you will find interesting. The data speaks for itself, and as someone who has been living in Japan for years believe me there are plenty of people here with incredibly laid back jobs where you aren't expected to do very much that you probably associate with France. You aren't going to get a documentary on the guy who sits in an office screwing around on the internet all day.

If you want people to **** consider a 32 hour work week. With 3 days off from work people will likely **** by that third day. :P

The population of the world is already high enough that there's no reason to work 40-80 hours week, other than to funnel more cash into the pockets of executives and shareholders.

Some companies are doing a 4 day work week now. You also get paid by the government to have kids and get up to two years parental leave. It doesn't matter though because those things have little to do with birth rates despite popular sentiment. The wealthier, more educated, etc. you are, the less likely you are to have children. This is true both across and within countries. The poorest countries with the worst working conditions have the highest birth rates on average. And within a country the working class has a higher birth rate on average.

Japan's birth rate decreased as they got richer and got better working conditions. It was highest when they were poor, with terrible working conditions (Japan used to be a factory for making other countries goods after WWII with terrible pollution, including infamous mass mercury poisoning, it wasn't like modern Japan at all).

It should be noted that the reason people aren't having kids is because they don't have time to date or have relationships because the work culture there is completely fucked. It's so shitty that it makes the American work/life balance seem reasonable.

Americans literally work more hours on average:
https://data.oecd.org/emp/hours-worked.htm

Japan is about avergae for a developed country in terms of working hours. The suicide rate is also lower than America despite yet another stereotype. The birth rate is pretty comparable to other developed countries and the highest in East Asia (much higher than Korea and Taiwan, slightly higher than China). Japan has a positive immigration rate (more people entering than leaving, unlike say China which has a negative immigration rate). The main issue this last year is many immigrants cannot arrive. I had a bunch of people waiting to come to the laboratory I work at. The restrictions made it very hard for everyone. Things will get better this year with fewer restrictions. That said the population will continue to decrease because the immigration rate isn't enough to counteract the below replacement birth rate. The government continues gradually improving the immigration situation but they can't even come close to meeting their own quotas. If they actually want to meet the immigrant numbers they're setting it's going to require major incentives.

Yeah I don't really consider the Souls games to have stories. They have worlds with very deep lore and you certainly do go through events and make a decision that determines what minor variation your ending has, but it's a story like how Mario has to rescue the princess as an excuse to go through all the levels and overcome all the challenges. I would find it unlikely someone says they want to beat Dark Souls because they want to know what happens. It's all about overcoming the challenges and the sense of accomplishment you feel.

Translation makes it difficult. Although the general word for rose in Japanese is bara, the french loan word ros is used for that rose color, especially relating to wine (this part is important due to the God of Destruction/alcohol pun theme). The English loanword rose is sometimes used for the plant. When translating you have to choose between capturing the meaning versus sticking with the original word.

A piece of media isn't legally available in a country. There are many reasons why this might be the case. Saying it's okay to pirate it if it was banned for propaganda reasons, but it's not okay if a company just didn't want to release it or whatever is an arbitrary distinction. If you can't legally obtain a product the idea that they just don't deserve it and if they obtain it illegally it's due to entitlement is an extremely privileged outlook.

I agree with your overall point, you just need to focus on one thing and not try to turn this into something else

They are literally the same thing. They're not available because they weren't allowed a legal release in your country. Same thing happens with tons of movies, games, books, but not for propaganda reasons. You're basically saying it's okay to pirate if it isn't available due to propaganda, but otherwise it's wrong. You're making an arbitrary exception.

I think you either play the GBA versions of the Pixel Remasters. GBA have the most content (quite a bit actually), some graphical improvements, but the sound is worse than the SNES originals (this is of course an opinion, the GBA couldn't use the original music so you get slightly altered versions). Pixel Remaster has amazing graphics and orchestrated music, but none of the extra content (same as SNES originals).
