It's such appallingly bad Star Trek that I can't even understand what their plan was for it to begin with. With all the people who worked on it someone had to say "Hey, this is just gonna piss people off". On top of that, it's not a very good show on its own. Most of the characters are terrible and inconsistent and, although it has some interesting scifi concepts, it's so focused on being as edgy as possible that it all gets lost in the shuffle in order to shove in some more ultraviolence --- |

I don't know what a better alternative would be but I think there are a lot of boss fights in some games just because it's the thing to do. This. It's an easy to do standard convention. Levels over? Time for a big dude with a minigun for you to unload into. It's possible to do well but most devs just put in damage sponges or monsters with glowing weak points with three attack patterns because it's what you do. Bosses aren't as popular as a mechanic as they used to be so people don't tend to put a lot of effort into advancing ideas. --- |

There's some good ones out there but most of them are just "whack the dude until he dies", hit the glowing weak point for MASSIVE DAMAGE", or "here's some specific mechanic for this boss that is not relevant to the rest of the game". They almost never test your ability to control the games mechanics, just being able to do something while avoiding being hit by some giant rat fuck bastard. --- |
