Seems to be the stereotype

But what does CE think?

honestly I don't give a shit; all I care about is the reception

that said, marriage should absolutely be about two individuals vowing to become a single unit for life in front of friends and family. If there's no discussion and agreement and just one half of the couple running everything against the wishes of the other half of the couple, they should 100% not get married.

Women are the only reason these big ceremonies exist. If it were up to men we'd all go to the local justice of the peace to get married. BOOM in and out.

More or less. Men might care to have a reception with family and what not, but these big lavish ceremonies? Yeah thats mostly women

Probably considering my idea of what it should look like to me doesn't look as cool as any of that

Happy wife, happy life.

But yeah women are for the wedding, men are for the party after.

Depends. Some women actually aren't into this as the stereotype demands.

It should be a compromise between the wants of both individuals...

It's just that the average guy doesn't really have a lot of prominent wants in a wedding. So it is mostly a focus on what the woman wants.

That said if a guy wants something in his wedding he should by all means speak up. The idea that only women can/should care about a wedding is antiquated and sexist.

Happy wife, happy life
Ah yes that slave mentality, wonder if that continues to hold true when a wife divorce screws the man, takes most of his things, and he is living out of his car.

There is nothing wrong with happy wife/happy life as a philosophy. It just has to be matched by her having a happy husband/happy life philosophy.

Relationships are all about give and take, compromise, putting their needs before your own and in turn them doing the same for you. If the relationship ever goes all-take/no-give from one of the parties, it breaks down.

For many men, the wedding is a perfect example of a giving movement. It is something that the man often has few strong preferences about while the woman might have plenty. If that's the case, why wouldn't you let her substantially have the wedding she wants (while staying within your agreed upon budget of course)? So by all means "happy wife" the hell out of it.

Cause then we can't have all the groomsmen wearing armor and swords as the pastor knights me and everyone in the audience says all hail the king

Or a pokemon themed wedding

Don't get me wrong, if a man's dream was for a Pokemon-themed wedding and it is truly important to him, then he needs to say something. I hope it's a conversation he has had with her before, and I'm sure there will absolutely be compromises, but he shouldn't have to set aside his wedding dreams just because of a societal norm.

I made it 20 seconds before I couldn't take anymore.

But good for them for having a wedding they wanted.

Of course not. My husband had a say in every decision. Sure he didnt want a big wedding at all but he wanted me to be happy. But we picked out everything together except for decor and stuff where he just didnt care. His family loved our wedding so much, they still talk about it to this day and my husband is really happy we went through with it and made it memorable for them.
