Having been a Southerner, while some of it is the lack of winter driving skills (can't learn what you don't practice), more of it is on the infrastructure. The roads in the south are at least ten times as bad in one tenth of the inclement weather, even an experienced winter weather driver would have a tough time.

People do overestimate their ability though and should just stay put.

He is right for the wrong reasons. Stimulus checks are basically junk food for kids, they exist to placate the masses but do nothing to stimulate the economy or improve anyone's living situation.

This is where someone chimes in with pandemic and lost jobs.
That's what the expansion of unemployment benefits have been for, which likely should have been done to an even greater degree.

If they really wanted to make a difference and stimulate the economy they would increase the Food Stamp payments and expand eligibility to the program.

Not that streamers are prostitutes mind.

Exaggeration for effect, obviously there have always been some people that fall for a stripper/prostitute, but the level of delusion among some of the (at least more vocal) simps is astounding.

And as to the other I'm using prostitute in a more colloquial sense of someone selling a false presentation of themselves rather than specifically selling sexual acts.

And certainly not all streamers fall in to this category with some of them just being genuinely themselves and not trying to milk their audience, but there is no shortage of streamers that are presenting a facade and using any number of con-man type maneuvers to engage and get the money from simps.

Actually, it is somewhat unclear if Congress(both houses would need to) can invoke the 25th.

"Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President."

It broadly appears that the House and Senate could in joint invoke the 25th, but it would certainly get sent to the SC to unravel how they want to interpret this line. Much like the various placement of commas in the 2nd there will be contention over if it means the (Vice Pres and Cabinet) or (Congress); or if it means the (Vice Pres and Cabinet) or the (Vice Pres and Congress). (parentheses added to help clarify my groupings because English is vague and make interpretations difficult, which is the problem in the first place.)

And this should only be done if all the states do it. Would be dumb if California and New York do this, but then Texas refuses.

Therein lies the rub and the reason there is so little movement to create a more direct representative vote for President. Fixing your own State actually effectively neutralizes you nationally. That's why the National Popular Vote Interstate Pact has been making its way through various State Legislatures ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact ).

It sidesteps gaining better electoral representation by binding the signed States to the will of the Popular Vote once enough States have signed on (enough means enough States to total 270 Electoral Votes). I have often wondered if the renewed interest in the last 10-15 years about Voter Fraud was due to the traction this has been gaining. Since Presidential elections are not run Federally, but by the States themselves a widespread believe of Voter Fraud in opposition States leads to mistrust of the general election numbers and in turn a harder sell to your constituents why you are now pledging the State electors to a candidate that did not carry the State.

It's doubtful that Senate races would change as they are decided individually and on different term cycles. This year was just a special case with Loeffler having been appointed at the end of 2019 to replace Isakson until the next general election. Warnock is now just finishing out Isakson's original term and will actually be back up for re-election in 2022 whereas Ossof's term runs until 2026.

Except that Twitter and Facebook have no special place in this and are not unique to this in anyway. It is 100% a failure of the institutions of leadership. The KKK didn't have Facebook and Nazi Germany did not have Twitter, what they did have were leadership structures that welcomed the crazy into the fold because they thought the could use them to further their own power. The reason QAnon parroters are being voted into office is because the Republicans are allowing them to stand under their umbrella and gain legitimacy.

However, it shouldn't last more than a couple of weeks and you should moderate your running if they are staying sore for too long.
You should start to see the muscle that wraps down over your shin start to develop, this is the one that absorbs the impact. Until you beef that one up enough there will be soreness, but after that it should not be a persistent or detrimental issue. More of the good post fatigue than actual pain.

Blaming a platform is stupid, if not Twitter, then Facebook, if not Facebook, then they would have found another platform.
The fault lies squarely on the leaders of the Republican party and their willingness to turn a blind eye to the YEARS of Trump fomenting discord and division as long as it allowed them to amass more power. This is textbook you reap what you sow.

I'm not sure we have anything more recent than this, 2018

You can contrast that with this, to get a good idea of what percent of money they have,
https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommybeer/2020/10/08/top-1-of-us-households-hold-15-times-more-wealth-than-bottom-50-combined

Raw numbers it looks about fine, but then you remember that the top 1% is 1.6 million people with an average net worth of 21 billion dollars and the bottom 50% is 160 million people with an average net worth of 13 thousand dollars.
Average 1% tax bill, $336,410 (percent of wealth: 1.6 x 10^-3%), average bottom 50 tax bill $274 (percent of wealth: 2.1%)
*Note these numbers are obvious approximate for comparison as the top/bottom percent of earners(taxes) and wealth(holdings) aren't exactly the same, but I think they are close enough for a comparison when you see the extreme outcome of the math.

So, I wouldn't say that it is common, but I think it depends on the group make-up. Groups of early 20-somethings with a fairly even gender split are probably going to fall into more adult in jokes and situations.

I see it as similar to the convention effect of everything seeming to lead into hooking up. You take a bunch of generally socially awkwards and put them in close proximity to each other where they feel more socially comfortable than they typically do and all the repression comes roaring out.

I disagree, to me noir was always more of a feeling to the way it was shot, an overall sense of dread and entrapment for the characters inhabiting the world, but it does very much tend to live in the crime/detective category. In the end I think I'd have to describe with the classic pornography line, I can't tell you exactly what it is, but I know when I see it.

But feel free to dismiss me as I have a very liberal sense of noir, everything from The Big Sleep to Blade Runner to Brick all fit neatly in my box as I have no problem holding them thematically together. I would put Vertigo in there too, but if you insist on sub categories I would agree that it is more suspense-noir which is a under represented group.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but.... What? States wouldn't be able to just add votes to their tally because that would very easily get caught. Also states would have 0 reason to do so anyway because there would be nothing in it for them to do so. It's just them reporting a got x votes and b got y votes and then everything is added together from the other 49 states.

Have you been paying attention the last month? Nothing in it for them? It is clearly obvious from the last week that Texas believes they have a vested interest in Trump over Biden. Perception is reality, and most of that was in reference to the initial framers where adding some number of votes without it being noticeable would have been very easy. Even today it would not be very hard if the legislature wanted to, and that is what we are really talking about, not if any does, just if they could. Because when we are talking about the kind of power the presidency now wields, those who lose are going to demand more and more validation.

I don't like the idea of the Electoral College, as it is an outdated principle in our modern society, but getting rid of it is more nuanced than most people realize.

Why do we have an EC? There are two major reason, one practical to the times it was created and another a matter of inter-state compromises based on the difficulty of joined these independent states.

The practical reason is, performing a centralized national popular vote count until very recently would have been an impossible task, the technology and infrastructure just did not exist in a way you could manage this.

The second, and still somewhat relevant idea, revolves around State's rights and the general uneasiness of how much they trusted each other. By declaring a number of electors, every one knew and agreed to how much each other state could affect the vote. If each state is reporting there popular vote there becomes more opportunity for a state to desire to maybe add 10,000 votes or so to the candidate of their favor to try and tip the scales. Even if it didn't happen, the lack of an ability to validate the reported votes would have lead us to where we are today, but much sooner and at a time when States were much more powerful individual entities likely crumbling the Union.

This remains the central problem to getting rid of the EC, the States can't run the Presidential election if it is a popular vote. The US Government would have to take over how registration works and the process for voting. And at the same time the states still have to run their own elections for local and national representatives. Which likely means there are two sets of registration guidelines and potential different voting locations.

At the end of the day it will be a mess to undo the EC. It is possible and a thing that can be done, but it will take and overwhelming desire from the country to ever get it done.

Typically not, because of freedom and all that. It's generally quite difficult for the government to enforce control in America, even where laws give them a little more latitude the only penalty is a fine of some sort.

What America does instead is that it allows them to be sued, so if someone was injured by their actions they could try to seek damages. But most everyone is poor these days in comparison to the expense of injury, so good luck getting any payout and like that could even make up for if someone died.

That would essentially mean the government is obligated to arrest people who delete your shit posts off GameFAQs.

That has nothing to do with 230 and is not at all what would happen. 230 is just about the classification of electronic services as distributors instead of publishers. Being a distributor means that you are not liable for the content posted, subject to accordance with other laws most notably the DMCA where an electronic service would be liable for hosting copyrighted material if the do not remove it within a time frame of being alerted to it.

Without 230 we would revert to the previous rulings in the matter, websites that moderate content would be considered publishers and those that don't would remain distributors. What that means for sites that continue to moderate is not that they can be arrested or sued for how the moderate, but that they are liable for the content the allow to be posted. (Theoretically you could attempt to sue that all content related to some subject is being moderated assuming that content is tied to a protected class, but that wouldn't help conservatives as they are not a protected class)

This mostly just means that any platform that moderates opens itself up to a bunch of lawsuits. If I post that Mitch McConnell looks like a constipated turtle and GameFaqs leaves that post up while choosing to delete some other posts then Mitch could sue GameFaqs for defamation.

The goal they think is going to happen is that it will cause all these services to stop moderating anything so they would not be subject to lawsuits. But what will actually happen is they will all shut down, because advertisers aren't going to pay money to be listed alongside hardcore pornography and hate speech.
