usually I would agree, but Trump's fanbase was def mostly twitter

they're both horrible platforms for humans, just outlets for anger and corruption

Facebook is a breeding ground for echochambers of every political stance and its algorithm that focuses on displaying things it knows will trigger its users is as big a part of this as anything else. While Trumps biggest method of communicating to his mob was through twitter, I have no doubt that these people were mostly radicalized through their facebook feeds by seeing nonstop videos of supposed alternate truths and joining conspiracy theory facebook groups to see posts from likeminded idiots on a daily basis.

One doesn't absolve the other. Yes, grown ass adults are responsible, yes, social media is complicit because they literally make money on targeting the most gullible people with misinformation. That's their entire business model and they shouldn't get away scot free just because "grown ass adults" should know better.

You need to understand that the AI algorithms on social media manipulate people. As someone interacts with a one thing, the AI sends more of that same kind of information their way. The AI is built to send you info that will keep you on there more. Then that makes the person think that information is what really is true. Its insidious.

People have never had to try and work against a machine like this, so yes I dont blame them. I dont think most people are equipped to deal with it because we just never had to.

Which is why I dont let my kids on social media (even though their friends are on it). My husband works in AI and wants them nowhere near it either.

Yup. And I think older people struggle to understand how it works as well. They think that because they see stuff all of the time, it must be true, but not that there could be a digital construct thats literally showing them these things deliberately because its trying to get them addicted to the product.

This

they go hand in hand, but as others have stated social media INTENTIONALLY feeds on those that literally dont have the mental capacity to understand they are being purposely nurtured and fed this information for their own monetary gain.

its no different than an alcoholic or recovering alcoholic being fed beer advertisements because they know they have a weakness and they are trying to exploit said weakness.

This is a dumb take.

None of this would have happened if the Republicans had put country before party, been the adults in the room and sent Donal Trump to stand in a corner.

Blaming a platform is stupid, if not Twitter, then Facebook, if not Facebook, then they would have found another platform.
The fault lies squarely on the leaders of the Republican party and their willingness to turn a blind eye to the YEARS of Trump fomenting discord and division as long as it allowed them to amass more power. This is textbook you reap what you sow.

TC is right. Twitter is fucking garbage. It's used as a tool to radicalize everyone.

Like, think of everytime you've seen a dumb article that was like "Group of People Are Fed Up With Thing!"
It's always just a collection of Twitter posts by fucking nobodies. But turning it into an news article makes it feel legitimate and makes everyone angry since it's giving a platform for idiots to have bad opinions.

Fuck Twitter.

It's not a dumb take. American citizens are voting in QAnon parroters. The politicians don't get in without votes. Of course blame the politicians as well but it's not wrong to say that Twitter and Facebook are more than complicit.

Trouble is, that doesn't work on people that already drank the kool-aid. They just see it as "Big Tech" trying to mislead them from the "Real Truth" They're literally indoctrinated to only accept what they want to hear, and reject anything that doesn't come from their trusted prophets

Right. Not only did that effort start way too late, it doesn't really keep posts reaching their intended target, an audience who already think such flags are wrong

Except that Twitter and Facebook have no special place in this and are not unique to this in anyway. It is 100% a failure of the institutions of leadership. The KKK didn't have Facebook and Nazi Germany did not have Twitter, what they did have were leadership structures that welcomed the crazy into the fold because they thought the could use them to further their own power. The reason QAnon parroters are being voted into office is because the Republicans are allowing them to stand under their umbrella and gain legitimacy.
