I've been fortunate enough in my life to do well, so I can speak to the actual math of having more money. As a family of three when I earned about 30k my effective tax rate hovered around 8-10%. Now as a family of three with bout 250k a year my effective tax rate is about 15%. Even if I was single it wouldn't go up much beyond 20% and I could do more to shelter it since my CoL would only be supporting myself. It has been years since I was worried about money now. When I made 30k I was hesitant to even spend 10 dollars because my margins to bills were so tight, Now, unless it is more than 100 dollars it doesn't even really register. The well off are just fine, or they are leveraged off their ass trying to look rich instead of just being happy being wealthy. |

There are a number of calculators available across investment and money websites to help you get a better idea of what is right for you. A house that the owner lives in rarely shows much if any return on investment, so it is a matter of determining at what point the amount you put into a down payment would have been better off in traditional investments versus how much you would be paying out in rent. Go use a calculator, look at your local market and determine which way the pendulum swings at what costs and for how long. |

| realnifty1 08/03/19 12:41:53 PM #54 | So, not to be a party pooper, but it sounds like you are involved in a tech job currently. What is it you are trying to get from school? I can tell you from years of experience doing tech interviews that college mostly does nothing to prepare people for coding jobs. There are probably a few schools out there that are better about it, but a CS degree is more like a gatekeeper to an entry level job and even then a coding bootcamp would serve just as well. I would figure out what skill it is that you are interested in learning and talk to the faculty and former students to see if that is really what you want. If you are able to hang on and learn at this current thing you are working on it would likely be enough resume to get you tech interviews elsewhere in a few years. |

It's almost certainly dead for this census anyway, they blocked it because the census department did not follow their own rules for assessing the impact of a change (which this almost certainly would have failed). Republicans will have to reload for the 2030. The partisan gerrymandering is likely a correct ruling, if not unfortunate. Constitution gives power for maps to the states themselves and unless they are violating a protected group there isn't much the Supreme Court can do. |
