soul hackers 2 deserved to bomb but it's battle system isn't bad

it's worse than persona/press turn for sure though so I'm not sure what they were thinking really

same. just like the first game there's an issue with overleveling. However, if this is like its predecessor it won't matter too much and the game will still be challenging. Still we're at the point where I think every game should have a zeroXP option or a turn off battles mode to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

anyway, I'm guessing that a lot of people will be upset that this game is basically exactly like the first one (day /night cycle notwithstanding). as someone who really really likes the first one I have no issues personally but I get it.

I'm actually pretty let down by the OST so far. There's a couple 7/10s, but Octo 1 had like 5 songs that were 9/10 or higher for me so the bar was set really high.

So comparing to other games, yeah it's still pretty good music, but at least at the moment, the ost doesn't hold a candle to octo 1's

I'm not feeling this. I think it's on par if not better in many cases. To each their own though!

I don't know if the game's dialogue is sexist so much as it is extremely upfront and clunky re: gender norms, intentionally so. even when it was released it felt a bit antiquated.

the game feels well intentioned but I'm not sure it lands whatever it ends up going for, but I'll definitely take this over what the later parts in the series eventually turns into. estelle being well-written helps immensely.

these games are all great but I can't help but have some reservations when it comes to its female characters

yeah it was robbed. it's not a perfect game but it has one of the best "stretches" in any JRPG ever. it has a great beginning, dips for a while, has a truly awesome stretch, and then kind of fizzles out.

also I would definitely vote for ring fit over sekiro, and probably over elden ring.

the quiet quote is just funny to me, not obtuse/tone deaf in the way the diversity comment is

anyway, all this talk about yoshi p when he isn't even the director of the game is just fuel for his personality cult, so I recommend not talking about him

combat does look good and crunchy but I can't be the only one thinking that if this game is over 20 hours it'll get repetitive, right?

• mentioned FFXV's dlc mess. want to avoid this so they are "keen" to do dlc but they're not going to announce it until later.

I like how P5R has a cheat for the best-answer music notes but in order to get it you have to go through the (second or third) most painful social link in the game

but they also give you the ability to "bump" your social links if they're stuck at one of those in-between level-up plateaus. p4g had this too.

for the most part it's really easy but I guess specifically there are just things that I became used to games just "telling me"

like for some reason I didn't think that running into the "shiny trees" with the pegasus boots would turn them into shrink stumps. for some reason I thought you had to find a kinstone to change them into stumps. so I never even tried running into them with the dash, even though I knew that this was a thing you could do from LttP. so I spent literally an hour trying to find kinstones that would open up the lake hylia dungeon when all I had to do was run into the tree

This is tricky because at first I agree with BF. However, p5 royal it's actually extremely easy to max social links on one playthrough, and I think the game suffers due to it

Meanwhile, with P4G, I think it's technically possible to max social links on your first ever playthrough if you play really smart/save scum right answers. like if you actually took notes on what day to do what, etc. granted, it took me until my third playthrough to actually do this, but I did it without a guide and had a couple days left over.

P3/P3P though it's definitely impossible. That bugs me, but it's also pretty cool to see "how close I can get" each playthrough.

also I agree about the gem stuff and also just the number of skills in general. towards the end I was getting SP (or whatever) and spending it just to spend it.

Voted Chained Echoes, but there's lots of good choices here. Abyss, 13 Sentinels, and Tri Strat are all great, and I'd rank them in that order.

Right. I am especially disappointed with current Colbert. I scroll through my news app and I am always seeing clickbait articles with a photo of Colbert making a funny face and a headline about how "Colbert takes down MTG" or something equally inane, and I can't help but think that "this isn't super funny, nor is it helping anyone."

Out of the guest hosts, maybe Hasan Minhaj? I know he had that Netflix show which seemed somewhat like Last Week Tonight/Full Frontal level. I remember not actually liking his delivery.

My original - bad - post wasn't meant to suggest that these people or the show aren't funny anymore. I wanted to make a case about how I haven't been able to stomach late night political comedy since 2016. The exception maybe being John Oliver.

also I want to go ahead and agree with this. I loved X-2's battle system the first time, but on my replay last year I thought it lacked something. Yes, being able to cycle through jobs mid-battle is interesting and visually stunning for a PS2 title, but also the game didn't do anything with it. The game is either extremely easy (if you're equally leveled or overleveled (which is easy to do)) or impossible if you're underleveled. Maybe I'm wrong about that last part but I don't think I am. There are also tons of jobs that feel relatively useless compared to others.

If they could keep the switching but balance the jobs and add some strategy then it might really be something special.

probably should cancel the daily show tbh. I know that might not be a helpful post.

on my second playthrough it wasn't as bad as my first impressions, but the number of missables/forced replays sucks

also the music is such a huge step down from its predecessor it's huge bummer

Elden Ring

as nonsensical as it is, I think 3 is the best story overall due to the strength of the characters/chapters 4-6

1 is great but it takes a nosedive when you get the last party member and never recovers.

2? again, I'll never know because I hate the character designs so much

The vibe of FFX-2 is indeed a little off-putting and for canonical purposes I wish the game didn't exist (though I did kinda dig the overall atmosphere of Spira post-Sin), but I don't think the OST is bad at all. Memory of Waves and Light is one of my favorite tracks in the entire series and may be better than Zanarkand on it's best day in my eyes!

Memory of Lightwaves is extremely good. I also like Real Emotion obviously. But the day-to-day walk around the world/battle music is not good at all.

An impossible decision, but if forced to choose I would choose VI.

VIII and X have legitimate claims as well.
