Basically every right wing media figure and politician is using rhetoric calling for violence right now.

If you were at all concerned about Jan 6th, I think itd be pretty weird to be unconcerned about the future rn.

His Green Arrow was good!

You're not the first person I've seen say this though, so sounds like his move to Marvel from DC didn't quite hold it all together.

he's probably been writing wolverine/x-force for too long and his penchant for uber-violence has made him a bit hack-y

All the main story beats that actually return from the original are great. The very end of the game is a bit too KH for my tastes (and definitely makes me slightly nervous for the future) and the side quests are pretty bad. Still far better than it had any right being

I just have a nagging feeling that other filmmakers more versed in "genre" fare like Richard Donner and John Carpenter would be more enamored with the success of the MCU.

you can just google "john carpenter on marvel movies" to find evidence that supports your point here, though "enamored" probably isn't quite right

anyway, a lot of people like to say that people like coppola and scorsese are "jealous" or "elitist" or something. that's really not their issue. the issue is that the business of movies is shifting so that if you don't make a superhero movie / a franchise / a sequel then your movie is extremely unlikely to be successful, and they want to make sure that those types of movies still get made and still get shown in theaters. you cant just let the market / $$$ direct what gets produced and promoted. otherwise, the book market gets mired in YA fantasy /smut, movies get stuck in superhero hell, tv turns into all reality schlock and oh wait

Ms. Marvel beated

I think y'all were a bit too hard on it. It definitely feels rushed in the last two episodes but overall I was more engaged/interested here than in Moon Knight and FaWS at least. It doesn't hurt that I think it was a pretty good introduction to India/Pakistan/postcolonial history for people who don't know anything about that stuff

But yeah, the quick character turnarounds /unearned redemption arcs in the last two episodes were definitely jarring

All the stuff in biscuit's Thor 4 post is absolutely true, yet I still think it's an okay to good movie. If I compare it to Ant Man and the Wasp - its closest MCU counterpart - I think it's a better rom-com. As an action film / epic Marvel movie it does not work (even though its best scene is that black and white action scene).

Speaking of Dark Fate, it also took me until like yesterday to realize how often anti-progressives keep bringing up the same few examples for "Get Woke, Go Broke". Part of the reason I started following Midnight's Edge recently again is because I wanted to see someone mock Rings of Power, only to result in the same old jabs at the Ghostbusters reboot and The Last Jedi. In 2021. Accuse me of hypocrisy all you want but wow. Then I went back and saw an earlier video about how they were afraid Black Widow would be the next coming of TLJ because of how many interviews involved Scarlett Johansson talking about her career struggles (while simultaneously flashing some reports about how she's the highest-paid Hollywood actress, which doesn't actually mean much) and what the character means to her and women as a whole and how she always wanted Black Widow to be a more fleshed-out character instead of a glorified sex object. This was eventually accompanied by a slideshow of promotional images for Dark Fate, Charlie's Angels, and Birds of Prey as if BW was set up to be the same thing. And then once the movie came out the main spokesperson for the site said the movie was somehow *not* as woke as he feared it would be based on that and previous Phase 4 entries which clashed with my own opinion on the movie after watching it where I felt if any movie deserved to be labelled a social message in search of a plot it was Black Widow. I like the movie was a celebration of action girls but my god, what plot was there actually beyond finding out a cartoonish caricature of Harvey Weinstein was somehow not dead and putting a stop to his sex trafficking ring once and for all? And somehow this is not political according to them while Last Jedi is. Ugh.

this one jumped the shark and now I'm totally convinced you're just an elaborate bit

I think the issue here is that the jokes hit so well in Ragnarok because we weren't expecting it, given the previous Thor movies. Now we are, so doing the same style isn't as effective.

I'd attribute it more to the lack of Goldblum, Ruffalo, and Hiddlestone and not having those characters. Here Korg has to do most of the heavy comedy lifting.

Thor Love and Thunder was above average/good on my MCU scale. I probably would've enjoyed it more if I had any love for GNR, but these days I just think they're too cheesy.

The black and white fight scene was possibly top five fight/scene and I enjoyed how the film handled Jane's cancer. I also really liked how Eternity looked. Christian Bale was also really good.

Overall the movie is light and breezy, but the jokes don't land as consistently as I would've liked.

a lot of this might honestly be visual/auditory for me. honestly, every time I looked at him/heard him speak I felt taken out of the show. maybe if he was more subtle.

anyway, just let me not like munson. he wasn't close to the biggest problem I had with the season.

Eddie veers for me too close to nerd pandering. Super into metal, wears the jean/leather jacket combo, is a super cool DM, is an outsider yet charming, has a redemptive character arc. He felt tailor made to appeal to a particular person and I found the writers to be a bit heavy-handed in how they wanted us to like him.

I know the show has dealt in archetypes in the past, but this season I found them to be even more obvious than normal. I can buy that this was intentional due to how the show sets them up to be potential murder victims from the get go (hence why we have hyperbolized examples of the super obnoxious preppy jock and his cheerleader girlfriend, the nerdy newspaper kid, along with the typical stoner and mousey band geek). Munson starts out as one of these cliches and then tries to develop him into a "real character." It didn't work with me.

Finally - I know this is part of the "joke" about his character - but dude who plays him literally looks 40 to me and I just couldn't buy that he was supposed to be only 5 or 6 years older than the "kids"

Nah, dude (Argyle) sucked completely (so did Munson and if you liked him shame on you) but yes, all of the California characters suffered in order to simply be window dressing for eleven's backstory. Russia plot sucked also, but blame the writers for even having such a terrible idea for the end of Season 3 stinger in the first place.

Anyway, I disagree with the comments about killing characters because I don't think ST needs to do that in order to raise the stakes. It just needs competent snappy writing. Which it still had for the main story thread at least.

Biggest thing is it needs to stop splitting up the characters, particularly the original five kids- based on the ending, I imagine season 5 will be better in this regard
