Here are my immediate non-spoilery thoughts having just finished it. Some people might consider them vaguely "spoiler-ish" so beware.

1. Man these writers hate Mike, Will and Johnathan because they never give them anything to do.
2. Argyle SUCKS.
3. 3 > 1 > 4 > 2
4. Pacing was an issue here. Amazing first four and last three episodes... truly interminable middle

So read an article about how Disney gave Watiti a time limit for Thor which is why it ran under two hours and I feel like they must be putting the similar kind of restrictions on their TV shows. I wonder if it is because they are concerned about fatigue so they are just trying to cut down run times arbitrarily.

shorter run times = more screenings per day = more $$$$

it bears mentioning that this movie plays perfectly into cultural trends toward pro-militarism and traditional "masculine values" so the timing is pretty good.

at the same time marvel seems to have stagnated into what has become an extremely safe/tepid brand of neoliberalism (i.e. disneyfication)

in other words, two separate examples of why american culture is so shitty right now

yeah super overrated by the fan base I think. 7/10 because the good parts are actually pretty good.

I'm not upset that we didn't immediately jump into FF/X-Men/Dr. Doom but it isn't unfair to say they should have had a more interesting fill-in plan that what we've gotten

In Phase 1, we had four movies (IM1, 2, CA, Thor) to lead-in to the big event (Avengers). In Phase 4, w have had 5 films, along with seven (?) TV shows and there's no real "event film" in sight.

it's possible that the final episode of loki raised people's expectations about kang/the multiverse too much

at the end of loki, it definitely felt like a multiversal war was going to be the big "event" of phase 4, but since then, the concept of the multiverse and how it operates in the MCU has been treated differently by spider-man and dr.strange's films. I definitely agree it lacks consistency.

dr. doom makes sense as the next major villain but it's taken way too long to actually get to him. he hasn't actually been teased yet as far as I can tell (unless he's in Thor or something in which case spoiler tag please)

the problems in phase 4 are manifold.

first, they're suffering from raised expectations due to how good the past phases were. I liked parts of MoM but I haven't been impressed by any of the films - they're just standard superhero fare. This is only a problem because several films in the MCU have transcended this benchmark in the past.

second, the glut of Marvel products via more movies and constant Disney Plus shows is creating brand fatigue/backlash.

third, the universe has begun to feel disconnected. there's no nick fury/avengers build-up to manage hype.

They need to go ahead and pull the ripcord on Young Avengers/Kang/FF/X-Men and really start the next major phase. Right now it kind of feels like they're stuck in a filler arc.

To which I respond... everything except episode 5 basically. I don't think anything really worked in Moon Knight, which is a shame, because I really like the Warren Ellis run and was glad to see "Mr.Knight" incorporated. I found it incredibly cheesy, but even worse, incredibly boring. Ethan Hawke was awful. Episode 5 is good, but only because it tonally and stylistically feels completely different from the other episodes. Oscar Isaac's acting is good but the character itself is like a less interesting Venom

I didn't know if I should mention this here, but one of the complaints about Thor Love and Thunder that seems to be going around involve the notion of Thor suffering from "male fragility." i was really surprised by these so-called critics taking umbrage with strong female characters "upstaging" men but maybe I shouldn't be considering that these people said the same thing about Poe in the Last Jedi.

It really seems like fandoms across the board are viewing every moment of weakness by male characters as wokeness.

I'm keeping up with SAGA but man, I dunno. Not sure I like the direction BKV decided to go here, and at this point the sexual/political stuff almost feels performative

I was stoked for X-Men while Hickman was around but it went downhill fast once gerry duggan and tini howard orchestrated a coup in order to stick around in phase one of the krakoa arc. It feels aimless now and I'm annoyed that it feels like all the other writers don't seem to understand moira's powers.

apparently dan slott and mark bagley have a new spider-man ongoing coming out soon, so maybe I'll check it out, but I'm definitely just a casual comics reader now

I don't think I've ever turned on a game as much as I have on horizon: forbidden west.

for the first 8 hours or so I was having fun.

somewhere around the second city I began to see how truly soulless it is, full of mind-numbing tediousness and trinkets. a huge world with no sense of adventure whatsoever. absolutely no meaningful character progression. the worst of AAA open world gaming. elden ring's brilliance only highlights how much of a failure the game is.

the characters are indeed terrible to look at and the flying "animation" seems busted

still gonna play this garbage game and enjoy it though

gameinformer is not to be trusted. it's all payola from big sonic

I just wish there was a way to move the HUD

weirdly enough this would be perfect for a Wii U esque game pad

3 is borderline good, depending on how much weight you give story

I'll add some comments on Eiyuden Rising.

It was fine, but if the actual game looks or plays anything like it, I'll be hugely disappointed. It's a unity game, so it basically feels like something you might play on newgrounds (albeit, a really good one by their standards).

It is meant to evoke feelings of castle/town management from the earlier Suikodens, and to a certain degree it succeeds. The writing and characters are decent and I wouldn't mind seeing them show up as side characters in the main game. Worth a playthrough, especially if you can get it for cheap.
