based on some other stuff Ive seen, I think some version of that World War Hulk bit is true

i dont totally know how theyll justify it though, or how similar to its namesake it will actually be.
Theoretically Skarr would have been born during Hulks stay on the planet from Ragnarok, I guess. Maybe Skarr will be filling the Hulk role and Hulk will be the protagonist? It doesnt really make sense for Bruce to be mad at Earth people.

What's in the spoiler tag is possible, maybe. The heart of WWH is the PH beforehand really so otherwise it's just taking the name and lampshading a totally different story onto it e.g. Hulk persona goes crazy due to villain mind control or lab experiment gone wrong or something. So it's less WWH and more "Hulk rampage and various heroes try to stop him", but then that doesn't work for a tv show either since you need the heavy hitter/big name actors or special effects budget for that... would really probably work better as a movie if that was the case?

Just can't see the actual elements of that storyline coming into play unless they're going to start doing non-616 movies in anticipation of possible Secret Wars

well the "heart" of Civil War re: Superhuman Registration Act was there, and Infinity War is more like Thanos Quest, but yeah.... Age of Ultron too for name <> material, fair enough.

I guess the animated Planet Hulk movie is as close as I'll get to true World War Hulk...

they kind of blew their chance to do MCU Planet Hulk at this point, since most of his friends were in Ragnarok and it would be weird to send him into space again anyway... definitely would have to be an incredibly loose WWH adaptation at this point

Hey speaking of blown chances: I understand this flows naturally from stuff being setup post-blip and they probably want to not revisit that 5 year gap of time where nothing happens in-universe, but not doing the Thunderbolts as a tv show (instead of movie) set somewhere inside that 5-year time period seems like a missed opportunity to me. I mean the rationale for their existence is right there, just like following the Onslaught saga...

Just imagine all the promotional material making it seem like another straight superhero tv show, a bunch of new no-name heroes coming together to help the world during a dark time, yada yada, and then you get the big twist at the end of episode 1. I remember when Invincible was setting the internet on fire with its ep 1 twist buzz! Ah well.

I've been ranting about the missed opportunities of not having Thunderbolts yet endlessly. Hell, not having it now when there apparently isn't really an Avengers team that exists at the moment seems like a missed opportunity too. If you're not going to give us Thunderbolts, at least give us Dark Avengers now with insane MCU Willem DeFoe as Iron Patriot in these non-Avengers times!

The weirdest thing about giving it to the Black Widow writer is just that people only had negative things to say about the Black Widow movie's writing. Not even neutral or positive things. Just mostly meh to bad.

And team movies are the big money maker. Why not give it to someone who has a lot of promise to make such a thing? It's why I can't get too excited for Thunderbolts when I've wanted it for forever.

Oh, I watched the Ms. Marvel finale. From a writing standpoint, this finale was a completely messy.

Some of this stuff was completely contrived and absurd. After not having seen the Damage Control folks for two full episodes they come back and are just all about kidnapping this kid and I really don't get the logic in that DC leader going all out to kidnap the Kamran defying orders. Like for what reason.

And then that girl Zoe who I only remember because we see the bare minimum from her through the whole show but they pretend like she's been super involved and is part of the gang. But she's there on a Saturday inexplicably to film TikToks at night? Come on. She was in this episode alone more than she was in the entirety of the rest of the episodes combined. And Kamala's brother just appearing there to chaperone was also really lazy too.

And the whole speech where Kamala's father had to stretch super duper hard to get him to be able to call her Ms. Marvel was awful too.

There was probably more but this finale was sloppy AF, while at the same time being more entertaining and visually awesome? I don't know, this show stands out as really terrible writing. It was jarring because while a lot of times the writing in Marvel stuff isn't tremendous, this is the first time it actually felt awful and amateurish to me, like there was no quality control done on it.

Thor Love and Thunder was above average/good on my MCU scale. I probably would've enjoyed it more if I had any love for GNR, but these days I just think they're too cheesy.

The black and white fight scene was possibly top five fight/scene and I enjoyed how the film handled Jane's cancer. I also really liked how Eternity looked. Christian Bale was also really good.

Overall the movie is light and breezy, but the jokes don't land as consistently as I would've liked.

I think the issue here is that the jokes hit so well in Ragnarok because we weren't expecting it, given the previous Thor movies. Now we are, so doing the same style isn't as effective.

I'd attribute it more to the lack of Goldblum, Ruffalo, and Hiddlestone and not having those characters. Here Korg has to do most of the heavy comedy lifting.

I think there's a bit of "She's important to him" and comic book/comic book movie logic dictates that's important for the main character. Wong's one of the more "all knowing" characters, so maybe he knows Shang doesn't come without her or something.

The second bit is weird, yeah. I think it's supposed to suggest there's a latent power hidden inside of her, but it doesn't go into it, so who knows.

for the first thing I didn't really take it that Wong specifically needed her or anything, but I mean she was in Ta Lo, she is aware of the movie's events so it's not like they need to keep her in the dark, they're together at dinner so just ask them to come

second thing.... yeah when it happened I just immediately thought it was silly but whatever cliche to get the supporting cast to accomplish something

Alright, I saw Thor: Love and Thunder today and I just... didn't love it a whole hell of a lot? Like Gorr was the best part and he was barely in it. The humor just doesn't land most of the time and Korg is barely funny in it. Like keep that dude relegated to a much more minor role instead of Thor's number two.

How the hell do you have Gorr the God Butcher and we see him kill exactly ONE GOD. And then we see Sif with an arm chopped off and it's mostly a comedic scene and Thor barely seems to give a fuck. That could have been a dramatic scene to show how grisly Gorr was and instead it's just "Haha you won't go to Valhalla but your chopped off arm will." "LOL Oh Thor you scamp." Like what the HELL was Gorr's motivation here? He gets the sword that makes him have incredible blood lust and he decides nah I don't want to kill the gods personally, I just want to make a wish and poof them all away. And he does that by... kidnapping children and letting them bring the Stormbreaker to him? Why the fuck isn't he massacring everyone to get to it? Why is Gorr killing all the gods in sight not enough motivation for Thor to come at them?

And don't get me started on the complete waste of opportunity to explore the "gods are selfish" plot. There's a point where Gorr goes on about it but it's just... dropped. No interesting back and forth about it. It rattles Valkyrie but then we got a fight to do so OH WELL. And Thor just going "Yo you can wish to kill all the gods or wish your little girl back instead idk you should care about love my dude" like what. Thor is a dad now too? Where is any of this coming from? Because Korg mentioned Thor being a good dad once and because he talked to children and GAVE THEM ALL POWERS to kill the things effortlessly that absolutely kicked Thor, Valkyrie, and Jane's ass?

Loki was sorely missed in this movie. The entire dynamic between him and Thor was what carried most of these movies, and without them it's really lacking. Valkyrie is just too cool for school for all of this shit, Korg is just a little joke machine, and Jane was... I don't even know how to describe it? But it didn't do much for me. I don't think this movie is as bad as Thor 2, but I sure liked the scenes with Loki and Thor a lot more in that one than most of the scenes in this movie with Thor and any of his friends. Thor 1 is absolutely a better film than this though, simply because it at least presented an interesting drama and inner turmoil for Thor. This one is just a really sloppy proclamation for "love" whatever the movie wants us to learn from it, because it never does a good job of it.

The action was good at least. Christian Bale killed it with Gorr and you can tell he was really into the character but man did they need to do more for him. But aside from that, the comedy just wasn't there half the time and it felt like kind of a waste of time.

I thought the film was okay and I think upon reflection this might be the biggest reason why.

Not that Thor can't be great without Loki (like Infinity War and Endgame) but those were more supporting roles than lead ones.

All the stuff in biscuit's Thor 4 post is absolutely true, yet I still think it's an okay to good movie. If I compare it to Ant Man and the Wasp - its closest MCU counterpart - I think it's a better rom-com. As an action film / epic Marvel movie it does not work (even though its best scene is that black and white action scene).

See, I actually really like Ant-Man & Wasp a lot. It feels like a very different and very fun movie and I enjoy the scope of it. And I think all the drama and relationships work incredibly well. Most of the humor works there too.

Love & Thunder tries to be some weird epic which doesn't feel anything like one. I think most of what they try with drama just doesn't work and none of the inter-personal relationships with Thor aren't very interesting.

Hell, I'd argue that the themes of love and caring for one another are done a lot better in Ant-Man & Wasp too.

I'd have to watch Ant-Man & Wasp again to see if it's actually better, but I know I enjoyed it more than Love & Thunder aside from when Christian Bale was on the screen.
