Maybe she does. That kind of thing is disappointing to me. I've been kind of thinking of giving DS Cute a shot and I was reading about some of the NPCs. One caught my eye named Flora who sounded badass. Cute design, has a cool research job that she loves, digs around in the excavation site for artifacts. Martial artist. Then I read if she's married in DS, she becomes a housewife who barely leaves the house. It made me so sad
See, that kind of thing absolutely breaks my heart. I feel like the wives in AWL also mostly stayed in the house or around your farm too.

How different is Rune Factory compared to Harvest Moon? Is it literally just Harvest Moon but you can also fight monsters too? >_>
It's Harvest Moon where you fight monsters, but fighting monsters is pretty darn important. It has a lot of the same features, like a town of people you need to befriend and love interests to woo. I've only played 1 and 4, but I really liked both of them. There's no gay marriage in the series though, so decide who you're going to marry ahead of time lest you break your own heart like I did.

the more anime Harvest Moon got, the worse it got. Everything past DS was when it got irredeemably too anime
If that's how you feel about it, fine. I don't. I like the anime aesthetic. Personally, I thought Magical Melody, Animal Parade, and Trio of Towns were all real high points of the series and they were very "anime."

You can divorce your spouse and even erase their memories of your time together! IIRC, you have to befriend the Wizard and he'll let you into the backroom of his house. There are several shrines there that do different things like changing your appearance among the other stuff.

I think you have to offer up a prismatic scale or something to turn your kids into doves. Then they just fly away...

It isn't racism lol. It isn't because he's the one guy that's black, it's because he's the one guy that Popuri is into and he's overprotective of her. Especially when Kai only visits in the summer and Rick would probably worry about him treating her casually or, worse, "taking" her away from town.
It can come off as racist. Since we don't have any games where Rick is Popuri's brother but Popuri's love interest is someone other than Kai, we can't really make that judgment definitively as to whether or not Rick would be that overbearing with any guy. Again, I don't want to derail this topic with a heavy discussion. I think that a guy whose starter dialogue is "I like pretty much everyone in town except for Kai. I can't stand that no-good bum." comes off a bit racist though. Especially given that Kai is a good person from the moment you meet him, runs a business, and is generally liked by everyone else in town.

Maybe Rick gets better as you get to know him. He always comes off as an overbearing stick in the mud to me, so I've never had any interest in befriending him outside of talking to him everyday (as I do with all the townsfolk).

What? You are the one who claimed he came off as racist when that's not even remotely the takeaway you are meant to get from him he literally doesn't like him because he likes his sister and is only around during the summer.
You must live a really sheltered life if you don't understand how him having an intense dislike of the one black guy in the game can come off as racist. You seem to be taking this far more seriously than I meant it though, so I reiterate: it's just a game. Rick isn't a real person who is going to be offended by me saying that his disdain comes off as racially motivated. I'm not going to sit here and have a discussion about the biases (conscious and unconscious) that we all hold/how media reflects that. I'm going to talk about the video game and I suggest you do the same.

Any way, three way tie between Gray, Kai, and Cliff for myself. The idea of breaking up Kai and Popuri tears at my heart (I had a similar issue with Magical Melody where I felt like an absolute monster for marrying Dan and leaving Eve all by herself lol). Gray is adorable (and, ngl, I have this weird repulsion to the "quiet girl with long hair and glasses trope" so I have this almost instinctual desire to keep him away from Marie) but so is Cliff. I could split my save file if nothing else; I'm stupidly rich from selling Van's Favorite to Huang, so it's not like I'd be left with no money or clue what to do upon my return.

but because they were denied decent swimming areas for so long, swimming never became a part of black culture.
As recently as the 60s, black people were barred from public pools. That's only two, two and a half generations back. That would be your grandparents were not allowed to swim in public. If they didn't know how to swim, they almost certainly didn't teach to swim or take their kids (your parents) to the pool. Maybe if generational poverty and systemic oppression hasn't hit your family too hard, your parents could have signed you up for swim lessons. It's unlikely though.

the point is many people rely on schools to be free daycare while they work.

Trump doesn't care about this or the health concerns, he just wants them back to working for his friends and to try to say in November the economy is better under him than Obama.
The more insidious side is that Trump wants schools to be forced to close down. His administration has already threatened to withhold funding from schools that won't hold in person class. This is an obvious scheme on the part of Betsy Devos to ultimately shut down public schools and funnel federal money into private schools.

Public pools have been available for ages now. The issue is that they don't get formal swimming lessons from instructors, probably due to cost. Though I think you can still get them at the Y.
Are public pools generally available in every neighborhood? What are the odds that a parent, who probably also doesn't know how to swim, will feel comfortable taking their kids to a pool?

It's a systemic issue that will require more than public pools (which cost money to enter) and a few Y locations (also pretty pricey in my experience) to fix.

You're on an American site, with a largely American userbase, and discussing an issue (schools reopening being a critically bad idea) that is primarily American.

Sorry that you lack the capacity to think outside your own little province, but you should be more aware of where you are online. Other countries aren't having this heated of a discussion because they're either being sensible about it or they already have the situation under control. The U.S. is doing neither of these.

Also, for your information, lots of kids live with or stay with their grandparents a lot. I grew up in my grandmother's house with her watching me while my mom worked. I have cousins and friends who cannot work without being able to leave their children with the grandparents. These people cannot afford daycare or not working.
