My soon-to-be-ex-wife was moving her stuff out of our shared apartment and didn't have any moving boxes. She had a handful of small boxes she'd gotten from behind a grocery store that she was ferrying back and forth in her car. She's notoriously awful with her money (to the point that she makes six figures but lives paycheck-to-paycheck and routinely overdrafts her bank account) too.

I asked her, "Do you need money to buy some moving boxes?" She screamed at me. Full on shrieking like a banshee. Screaming was also her response when I tried to help her carry out some of her stuff previously, so from then on I let her sweat and huff and pant as she made a million trips back and forth.

Though, I didn't say, "Well fuck you too." I just repeated myself. "Do you need money for moving boxes? I will literally venmo you like $50 for boxes so you can take your time and pack everything up and get it in one trip in a uhaul," which, fun fact, she had already wasted a ton of money renting and didn't even get a quarter of all of her stuff moved out. Also, of note, is that all of this is happening because she decided to break our agreement to finish out the lease and sign a lease somewhere new. This is roughly the second time she's attempted to stick me with the entire burden for the apartment in about four months, so I can't say I'm surprised.

She also shorted me on the rent she owed by about $300.

I don't know if anyone is saying that it's not "okay" for them to raise prices. Consumers are just frustrated. I mentioned that when I first signed up, it was like $8/month. They had an absolutely massive catalogue of shows and movies that I actually wanted to watch. Now, the catalogue is 90% "original" garbage and it's more expensive. Like, I genuinely despise a lot of the Netflix originals because it's formulaic drama that gets drawn out to the point that even if it's interesting for half a season, it goes on for six.

I can't personally fuck with any subscription service that's more than $10/month. I know there's a Netflix tier that's only $8.99, but that's for 480 quality.

Netflix, as of late, has just been garbage. There would occasionally be a movie on there that I'd want to watch, but those instances were months apart. I couldn't stand most of the original shows. Personally, I'm the type to only subscribe when there's something specific I want to watch, enjoy it for that month, and then cancel. You're almost always going to be wasting money when you just leave things on a subscription. Think: when was the last time you intentionally went on Hulu or HBO Max to watch something (not to have on for background noise)?

She also tried to lie to me about paying the electric bill. The cherry on top is because she pulled all these shenanigans with the rent, she racked up about $200 in fees and I did not give her a damn bit extra for it. Paid my share on time. Never thought about it actually! If I had to pick, I'd say the 3d games actually. It might be silly at first, but the Sega Saturn was designed with 2d characters with 3d backgrounds in mind, but when the Playstation's hardware was shown Sega threw another processor onto the console. The Saturn was very well known as one of the hardest games to work on. And that's why the 3d games are so appealing, games like Panzer Dragoon Saga pushed the console insanely with full on 3d character models, fully voice acted characters, and a 3d world. Even though Panzer Dragoon Saga is considered the game that pushed the system to the limits, it wasn't, as originally Shenmue was developed for the Saturn and a tech demo exists for the Saturn and it's amazing since the build was most likely around 1996 or 1997 and remember that games like Final Fantasy VII, Crash, and Mario 64 came out around the same time. Here is the Shenmue Saturn Tech demo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foZUcPQAMvg
That looks so cool. I'm really obsessed with beta versions and tech demos of games. It's just neat to imagine what could have been.

Also, everything I see of the Saturn makes me realize that the girl who would babysit me probably had one. I was never 100% certain what system she had, but it must have been that.

Doubt it. We're both on the lease and both equally legally responsible for all the fees.

It's just more in the trashy/sketchy part of town.

Well. It's a powder. So, yes, a euphemism.

PatrickMahomes posted...
So as long as her name is on the lease though, she still is responsible for her half, correct?
Nope, we're both legally responsible for the entire amount. The apartment complex does not give a damn if I make a fourth of what she does and she bailed. If we get evicted, they will pursue legal action against both of us to get what they're owed. Which is fair enough and that's what I signed up for.

ExtremeLuchador posted...
Usually everybody on the lease is responsible for the rent. If your roommate leaves you still have to pay your full rent until the lease is over. You have to go after your roommate in court to get their unpaid shares later.
Yup. I messaged her about two days ago and she said she'd pay Friday (when she gets paid). If that comes and passes without her paying, I can pay it and then try to take her to small claims court for what she owes me.

Also, all of the utilities were in her name. I had to manually call in the electric bill because she closed the bank account associated with it. I'm sure her switching banks is an attempt to just bail on stuff like that. I need to look into the Comcast bill. Part of it is included in the rent, but part of it is separate.

Yes. I wanted nothing more than to marry my wife and share a quiet life together. I was sickeningly romantic and just head-over-heels for her. I'd had reservations about it in the past (primarily for financial reasons), but she insisted. I was excited. I loved to say "my wife" whenever I got the chance. She was the light of my life.

Three months after a small, private ceremony she completely flipped. Said "this isn't working" after the fourth or fifth time she'd overdrafted her bank account and I called her out on it. She slept with half a dozen people in the following week and engaged in a number of activities that would be against the TOS to discuss. When I made moves to move out and on with my life, she told me she still loved me and wished we could be together. She was with someone new a few days later.

So... I did want to be married. If I could somehow still be married to that sweet girl, I'd be happy. I wanted to grow old with her. Whenever I thought of the future, it was with her.

Now though? I don't know if I'll even date anyone let alone ever get married again. That's not "I'll never love anyone like her" or "No one will love me." I will never trust anyone like that again. I've learned my lesson. I hate what it's done to me though. It's made me cynical. It's made me resentful. I'm in therapy to not be this way, but it's going to take years. I'm not old, but I'm not a spring chicken. I'm gonna be uncomfortably close to 40 by the time I'm anything even resembling okay. I'm not going to put anyone else through dealing with me while I heal and I won't have the energy to do all of this dating shit by the time I'm done.

So, yeah. Fuck marriage. My life has gotten infinitely harder and more complicated because I trusted the wrong person.

I sort of did. I had a good paying job with benefits that I hated. Covid came along and I quit (because I'm asthmatic and my job had me going into multiple nursing homes and patient homes every day...but also because I hated it). We made do on unemployment and savings plus my husband's income. A few months into the pandemic he got a new job with a promotion and better pay, so now I've settled comfortably into a low-stress job delivering Chinese food for a local restaurant and a bit of doordash.
I'm gonna say something, and I mean it as kindly as I possibly can:

Never let someone else be the provider unless it's absolutely necessary or out of your control. I was stuck in a situation for years where I couldn't find a job/didn't have a car to even do something like delivering food. I was wholly reliant on my wife (who made six figures). She literally came home one day, told me she didn't want to do this anymore, and I almost lost my home along with a huge chunk of my possessions. I was extremely fortunate that about a month later I was able to find a job. It's not glamorous. They pay is only okay and it's not even guaranteed every week. I honestly hate it, but it's worlds better than being dependent on someone else.

But before that, it was nothing but, "Honey I don't want you to work/I make more than enough for both of us," from my wife. Less than a month before she left, she explicitly told me, "I want you to stop looking for work because it's making you so stressed out. I will take care of you." And guess what? That whore lied. Never trust anyone but yourself. Never rely on anyone but yourself. Because people will lie to your face and tell you that they love you and then completely destroy your life.

tl;dr: never, ever give up a job with good pay and good benefits on the promise that your spouse will pick up the slack. Even if you think they're an angel who would never betray you. I thought that too.

That sounds great until a medical crisis hits.

I've done it. Kissed a woman too. Same person, technically.

no job is stabele your always at the behest of some person who can change their opiinon on a whim or even worse robots replaacing everyone in every profession being a streamer means you know how to create and promote content so you can always make your own money somehow
That's just delusional, my dude. There are plenty of jobs that are stable and are going to continue to be stable for years to come.

Some jobs just aren't stable or viable long-term. Have a back-up plan.

It's a real job, but it's not a real stable job. Consider the level of skill it takes to be one of the top streamers for a competitive FPS... and then consider the age at which your reflexes take a noticeable dropoff. Even if you're the best of the best when you're 21, by the time you're 35, your reflexes are going to have dulled and there's always a crop of fresh 21 year olds to take your place.

Also, think of just the way tastes change. Hell, just look at how the enigmatic "algorithm" changing can completely screw over once wildly successful channels. You don't want to be 40 and suddenly get "fired" with nothing to fall back on.

It's really just a strong argument for why we should have UBI.

Depends on the cost of living (COL) in your area.

Where I live, that would be enough to support yourself and another person. You'd have to budget it, but you should be able to live comfortably enough. All your bills will be paid and you should even have enough left over to buy nice things on occasion.

It's almost certainly not enough to raise kids on though.

A therapist might be able to help you identify and implement healthy ways to redirect your thoughts. If you can afford it, I would at least try a couple of sessions to see if it helps.

This. I was let loose on the Internet at probably too young of an age, but I can't imagine growing up any other way and at any other time. I miss the days of fan sites, message boards, and just the general idea of the Internet being this vast world to explore. Now it really feels limited to just the huge social media platforms and it's not the same. Also, everyone is on the "Internet" now. It's not a place for dorks and nerds anymore.

Also, yes, I'm aware that I'm posting this on a message board. But this is a dying relic of a bygone era. GameFAQs when I first registered my account (at the tender age of 13 because I was a good little boy who followed the rules) was absolutely a bustling and robust site with extremely active boards. That kind of space basically doesn't exist anymore.
