I've considered just outright quitting my job anyway. I'd use that to cushion myself while looking for something else. It's also roughly 3x my current salary.

I've never cheated on anyone. Cheating is absolutely despicable in my eyes and I've ended friendships over it. Two of my exes cheated on me and it wrecked me.

I did lie and tell a guy I was dating in high school that I cheated on him. I didn't actually do it though. I had a habit of compulsively lying at that age. I was also going through a host of emotional issues and just wanted to lash out and hurt him. Doesn't make it right, but that's why I did it.

It is dull because it is one of the most scientifically accurate Hollywood films. That is up until the volcano erupts then it is just inaccurate trash Hollywood escape scenes. There was about a 0% chance of them surviving that situation.
I took a geology class in college and it was a delight to hear the professor just go off on inaccuracies in movies. He took particular issue with an old movie called Krakatoa, East of Java largely because the titular formation is actually west of Java. Fun class though. Cool professor. He gently encouraged us to not directly lick the salt rock to identify it for the lab portion.

I kinda liked Dante's Peak. I have a fond memory of watching it: I became friends with my chem 111 lab partner and she invited me over to hang out. Me and her roommate ended up watching it while she had to go run an errand. The roommate warned me about the lake scene and it still kinda got me tore up.

Both of the articles you listed say nothing about how counting calories doesn't work, just that there's BETTER ways to lose weight.

I don't think anyone is debating that "Eat Healthy and Exercise" is the best wat to lose weight. But eating at a calories deficit will also make you lose weight. It may lead to a heart condition and diabetes, but you'll still lose weight.
It's generally easier to cut 500 calories out of your diet than to burn 500 calories through exercise.

I should probably look into some of the side effects of calorie restriction. I'm kinda going through one of my "one small meal and six cups of black coffee a day" phases and I'm lowkey worried it's gonna kill me.

I stayed with my cat in her final moments about a year ago.

I was going through a tremendously difficult time (dissolution of my marriage, moving out of my apartment, struggling to finish out the lease on my own) when she suddenly took a turn for the worst one morning. I dropped close to $600 at the emergency vet and had to make the decision, sitting there completely alone in a freezing cold office, to put her to sleep. I held her head in my hand and told her how wonderful she was, how much I loved her. I watched the light leave her eyes.

As difficult as that was for me, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I couldn't leave her alone at that moment.

Every time I've ever had a job that involved working with children, I stayed sick.

I was a teacher's aide for a first grade class during my senior year of high school. Little kids love to come up and hug you with zero warning. They were sweet, but they were also nasty. My grandmother still remembers how frequently I had the cold or some other form of illness that year.

In college, I worked in the children's department of my local library for a summer. Similar issue: pretty much had a cold the entire time.

Honestly, at nineteen, you're still kind of a dumbass kid that will implicitly trust your parents. I remember having an experience accompanying my father on a "business deal" while I sat in the car. I remember thinking, "Oh yeah, I'm eighteen now - I'd totally go to real prison if a cop came by," and promptly stopped spending any measure of time with him.

I feel bad for the kid.

I'm actually going through some 401k shenanigans at the moment. Found out that my ex (who I'm still legally married to) is getting 168k from closing out hers. I had to sign a notarized consent form for it to go through and she paid me my share of 6.5k.

I've already heard an endless amount of bitching from my mother that I should have dragged my ex through court to get half. I (probably) would have been legally entitled to it, but just being in the room with her for five minutes to sign off was enough to trigger a panic attack when I got home. She lorded her money over me when we were together, and it's honestly left a bad taste in my mouth to even get this much. I guess my dignity costs about six grand.

I'm doing okay on my own, but I don't begrudge anyone who gets what they're entitled to as far as alimony/marital assets. A lot of people sacrifice for their spouses and they deserve to be compensated for that..

I used to keep a pen on me, but I would write on the back of my left hand. Homework assignments, phone numbers, appointments, etc., basically anything I might need to remember. Keep in mind that this was before cellphones were commonplace. People thought it was strange. I remember being like... fifteen and having a grown man remark how weird it was.

I do keep a small sketchbook and pencil on me at all times now. I'll scribble notes down if need be but usually I just jot that stuff down on the notes app in my phone. I kinda miss the way my hand looked covered in names, dates, etc., but if people thought it was weird when I was a kid, they'd find it hella strange now that I'm a grown ass man.

My brother was with his girlfriend for 14 years and finally decided to get married. They broke it off like 2 months before the wedding and completely separated. It's nuts how much it changes some people.

I feel really lucky that my wedding went off with almost zero issues. There was a bit of chaos towards the end because we only had like 30 minutes to clean everything up after our cutoff time but the wedding itself I don't think I would have changed anything.
My situation was probably a bit unusual. I had been with my ex for ten years when we got married. We'd actually gotten engaged after two years of dating but kept putting it off for financial reasons (primarily health insurance/student loans). She had a rapid change in personality about two years before we got married. She wasn't perfect before, but she became incredibly selfish and destructive (skipping work, overdrafting her checking account, etc.). She ended up cheating on me and then literally begged me to take her back. She insisted we still get married and she promised that she would be better.

The entire time we were back together was miserable. She shaped up for about two weeks before slipping back into her old ways. I was deeply unhappy and couldn't let go of what she had done to me. I didn't tell anyone that we were getting married until it was done because I knew that literally anyone with a brain in their head would beg me not to go through with it.

From what I can tell, she's gotten worse since we split. I recently had to meet up with her to sign off on some documents and she looks like a wreck. She confided that she was "no longer with" her old job and, combined with what I've heard through the grapevine, I strongly suspect she was fired. She also tried to pull that, "I miss your friendship," nonsense with me.

It's so weird to go from loving someone and waiting to spend your entire life with them to feeling nauseated from standing next to them for five minutes and having a panic attack afterwards. I genuinely hope, from the bottom of my heart, that she never contacts me again.

Oh yeah, I was at a wedding where the groom was crying and filling out job applications on his phone while they waited for the officiant to show up. He asked his bride-to-be, multiple times, if she was sure she wanted to do this. She insisted. They got into an argument as they left the venue and he cried even more.

The groom was me. I cried pretty much the entire day because I was so stressed out/unhappy. She asked for a divorce approximately three months later. She was the one who insisted on getting married.

Inertia. Sometimes you don't realize that you can't stand someone until you're at the altar and it feels like you can't back out at that point.

As someone who went something sorta similar (tl;dr: my fiancee cheated on me and literally begged for forgiveness/a second chance):

There is no saving this. You will feel no vindication for confirmation of the cheating. You will never be able to quell the anxiety of wondering. I've been there. It eats at your soul and you aren't happy. The relationship is like a broken vase: you can try to glue it back together, but it'll never be as strong as it was before and you likely won't even realize that you've permanently lost some of the pieces.
