Not sure how much it should contribute to my vote, but I think it's interesting that despite losing both the battle and the war, Sega's advertising campaign from the Genesis era has shaped the public perception of Nintendo for the past 30 years. It's something they've never been able to entirely shake.

Not sure what CE is up to/has done in the past but the incident that triggered LUE's quarantine was, IIRC, when some members invaded the livejournal of a girl who had died by suicide and started trolling it. (This was back in 2003 or maybe early 2004?)

CJayC was livid (I think the girl's family had threatened/considered suing) and the only reason he didn't just delete the board was the thought that all that would do is cause the displaced LUE members to scatter to other boards and thought it preferable to simply quarantine it.

The Shana LiveJournal Incident (was this SecLUEsion?), was November 2003. IIRC, the rules changed again in 2004. I believe initially, the rule was that no account created after a specific date would be able to access LUE, and this was later changed in 2004 to people having to manually sign up to retain access.

LUE actually managed to find the last possible user within minutes of his first post (his name was actually Lunarhawk 101, believe it or not), and despite everyone jumping all over him, he actually stayed around long enough to get enough karma to join the board, and actually became a regular for a while. Wow, that's a memory I haven't thought of in over a decade probably.

lol. My first thought was also "Is this DToast's version of blinking twice?" It looks like this was run on the same day in 2022, so probably just a coincidence, but funny that they didn't bother to change it.

Reading between the lines, I'm not sure the endgame for Fandom is eliminating the site, but rather eliminating *us* the users. They want a younger, "hipper," crowd, and they think that if they can "reorient" the site to be all about gaming they can do that. None of their recent changes will do that of course, since none of the boards where people discuss politics are visible to new users, but this was probably some order from a sales/management person that doesn't understand how the boards work. They just told someone to remove politics and this was the compromise result. People are trying to get a "why" out of DToast in that second Feedback topic, but he didn't come up with this idea and he didn't want it, so he's not going to be able to provide anything.

The reason why Fandom doesn't care about us ultimately isn't because they don't care about their customers (although I'm sure it's some of that.) It's that they don't even see us as customers.

Out of curiosity, I tried seeing how popular the other boards on the site still are, and I noticed something interesting on the "Popular Game Boards" list: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/explore/1-game-boards

I don't know how the algorithm works that displays this, but I find it curious that a bunch of Fallout games show up on this list over say Dragon's Dogma 2, which has many more active topics on its board. Presumably this is because of the new Amazon show, but that implies that when people search for Fallout online, Google, etc. are still directing people to GameFAQS boards, and driving up hits.

Not sure where I'm going with this, but interesting that GameFAQS Boards still have that much of a reach.

Yeah, this. This policy is being done to solve "the problem" but no one is communicating what "the problem" even is.

There's a central paradox to all this. If there's an epidemic of offensive posts that are getting through the moderation system, relying on the moderation system more won't solve anything.

I've never really ventured too far from Board 8 in the last 20 years, but is GameFAQS even that bad by Internet standards in regards to inappropriate speech? I mean, even at its height 15 years ago, the stereotype was that it was full of stupid"how is babby formed?" level conversations, not 4chan level bigotry.

I don't think It's a Wonderful Life counts. It should definitely get a mention when we do a Multiverse Rushmore however.

I'm gonna go to bat for T2 over Terminator 1 here. Aside from being the more popular movie, time travel feels much more relevant to the central theme of the film. Being able to change the future/the future is not written in stone may not be some unique insight, but T2 deals it with more than the original from what I recall.

I'm not a comic book guy, but I don't see the Heath Ledger Joker as being a notably different interpretation either. I know someone's gonna come in with a bunch of extra knowledge, and I'm sorry, but if you were to ask a random person on the street they would not be able to make any meaningful distinction between the various Jokers.

All that said, Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker, and everything surrounding it is an iconic enough part of film history, that I think it's fine to put on the Rushmore. I disagree that it fits within "the rules," but I think the rules can be bent in this case.

I also want to throw out an honorable mention to Mr. Potter, who hasn't been named yet, and who would probably be number one on my personal list.

LTTP is widely considered one of the best games of all time by pretty much all parts of the gaming community. Whenever a non GameFAQS site has a Games Contest, LTTP is always one of the only SNES Era games to make it in and it always does fairly well

This feels surprisingly clear-cut to me. Gran Turismo 2 is the only one that I could be convinced deserves a place. Crash Bandicoot was just the PS1 playing catch-up. Imagine you go see the N64 Rushmore with SM64 there, then you turn around and see Crash Bandicoot in the PS1 exhibit. The PS1 deserves better.
