Not sure what CE is up to/has done in the past but the incident that triggered LUE's quarantine was, IIRC, when some members invaded the livejournal of a girl who had died and started trolling it. (This was back in 2003 or maybe early 2004?)

CJayC was livid (I think the girl's family had threatened/considered suing) and the only reason he didn't just delete the board was the thought that all that would do is cause the displaced LUE members to scatter to other boards and thought it preferable to simply quarantine it.

The Shana LiveJournal Incident (was this SecLUEsion?), was November 2003. IIRC, the rules changed again in 2004. I believe initially, the rule was that no account created after a specific date would be able to access LUE, and this was later changed in 2004 to people having to manually sign up to retain access.

LUE actually managed to find the last possible user within minutes of his first post (his name was actually Lunarhawk 101, believe it or not), and despite everyone jumping all over him, he actually stayed around long enough to get enough karma to join the board, and actually became a regular for a while. Wow, that's a memory I haven't thought of in over a decade probably.

Yeah, or SteriLUEzation. I think they refer to the same thing (though maybe that was the sign-up thing later?), dunno why that one stuck in my head more. Maybe because I remember CJayC's address to LUE comparing it to a cancer and that simply deleting/closing the board would be akin to letting it metastasize to the rest of the site.

And yeah, the user ID cutoff I knew was only slightly above my own (It was somewhere in the 800,000s) though I didn't remember the ID cutoff + sign-ups being two different phases but you're probably right and the more I try to think back the more I think I vaguely recall this being the case. I also remember the whole Lunarhawk saga with the memes of him being the chosen one as the last user who could qualify, etc.

While I did have access to it for a little while, what was the story behind that LUE offshoot, luelinks?
