God, look at those hourly percentages for RE4 and SMBW. They're all over the place because there's so few votes.

Damn. California has some trends. I noticed earlier today that TOTK was doing quite a bit better in the US than elsewhere, and was even winning California, but when I just checked, BG3 is up in California by 5.

This reminds me of whenever an obvious entrant would get snubbed in a contest bracket and the response would be "Not enough noms" or "Didn't meet the criteria" as if noms are some legally binding contract that must be upheld. If something would be more entertaining, put it in!

Edit: Like in 2015, the requirements seemed to be set up to exclude <i>League of Legends</i> from Best Game III as if the site's hands would have been tied otherwise or straight up excluding it was somehow illegal.

I think the only days to never have a Contest Match (or Bonus Match) are:

January 1st-January 15th
March 22nd-April 1st
June 10th-June 30th
December 25th-December 31st

There's a big demand for retro survival horror games for some reason. Does anyone know why? Silent Hill 1 CIB costs almost as much as Suikoden II at this point! The former was a Greatest Hits release, so it's not exactly hard to find. If you look at the PS1 and PS2 charts on PriceCharting, besides the obvious stuff like FF and MGS the top of the charts are dominated by survival horror games.

Seinfeld was definitely more popular at its peak (which mostly corresponds to Friends' first four or so seasons, so you can make direct comparisons between the two) than Friends was at its peak, but Friends was consistently popular for a longer time (all ten years it was on the air.)

Not sure how to judge the post 2004 period for them. For the first ten years, I feel like Seinfeld was on top. There was a period ten years or so ago when Seinfeld was still killing it in syndication, and Friends seemed to be on a bit of a downswing, popularity wise. Friends has really come back into the public consciousness the past five or so years though, so not sure how it plays out longterm.

Along this line, I thought for years that "All I Want for Christmas is You" was an older song and that the Mariah Carey version was just the most popular one.

I just found out in the past year that this song is NOT from the 70's/60's like I always assumed, and is actually from the late 80's and only became popular during the Gulf War.

Lopen is right btw, Allen was a complete shitshow for the contests.

I don't really have much to say on Allen other than he tried to rally mods for an outcome in the contests on Reddit and then pretended it was his wife instead in order to avoid complications with sponsorship prizes. He never made a good impression.

Well, maybe things would have worked out if there weren't traitors stabbing us in the back.

The rise of crowdsourcing has done a lot of good, but I think it led to people taking it for granted that these kind of resources would just be created organically, and there wasn't as much urgency for some to take up the reins and write a walkthrough or game guide by themselves.

Everyone says that GameFAQs is old-fashioned, but that's *always* been the case. At the height of its popularity in the late 2000's it was considered old-fashioned, so I don't think that's entirely the reason things cratered.

I've always been a big proponent of the theory that not purging the boards prevented a lot of conversation and community engagement, and I while I still think that's a factor, it was many different things. Looking back on it, the big drop off started in mid-2010, which is exactly the time that smartphones took off. Would a GameFAQS app have helped? Maybe.

I also think that the rise of open-world games hurt some too. I know that in theory it seems like games with so much content should be a boon to a help site, but I think there was an inherent conflict between the linear nature of a walkthrough, and the nonlinear nature of these games. Sure we could have had wikis or videos, but complaining about that kind of seems like complaining that a classical music label doesn't put out any hip hop. It's not what the site was set up to do. Not everything is set up to do everything.

I don't know what everyone else is going on about. When you emphasize certain words in a phrase/title, it makes the spacing between them sound different. Now, I'm not a linguist, so I can't say whether there is a different in spacing, or if it's some kind of auditory effect, but can people not hear that when you say aloud "Blair WITCH Project" there is a slightly longer space between Blair and Witch than when you say "BLAIR Witch Project"?
