The Fifth Circuit went "let's rewind the clock to 2000 and implement the rules you had then at the very, very beginning. Every adjustment you made in the next 23 years as more data became available and you were able to expand access? No, throw those out still."

Still in conflict with the injunction from the Washington court AFAIK so should still be on the fast track to SCOTUS. Like that ruling is slightly better than the original ruling that was a total ban, but this one is still pretty batshit in its own right and doesn't deserve to benefit from comparison just because a previous court was even more draconian.

It plays like crap in the general but winning the nomination is a different story. Mind you, I don't think anyone has a chance of taking those voters away from Trump, but the idea is right. Where they messed up was by playing up the 2020 election fraud story. If they took all the crazy and removed that, they paint the picture of Trump being a loser and they get to try to play at the fanatical base.

As much as we say Thomas is old and could keel over at any moment, he's only 74. He's not all that old in the grand scheme of things. I can't find how old his mom is, but even if she had him at 30, it's not too farfetched that she's still alive.

You have a weird perspective on age if you don't think 74 is old or that living to be over 100 isn't rare as hell.

Thomas looks so old and has looked so old my entire life, so I didn't even realize he was 74 until I googled him yesterday! I thought he was like a decade older than that.

His mom is 94 which is crazy old but obviously not impossibly so. Maybe California will elect her to the Senate for a couple terms.

There are nearly 100k people in the US over 100 years old. Its rare but its not THAT rare, especially for rich people.

74 isn't really that old by Supreme Court standards. Of the last three to die while serving, Ginsberg was 87, Scalia was 79, and Rehnquist was 80. Without an underlying health condition, it's not old enough where I'd expect Thomas to just keel over any day now.

It really goes to show how unempathetic they are tbh. When it's broader things that hits close to home they get it which is good but the second you remove their ability to understand here they are.

Stuff like this makes me think back to Candance Owens, who started her career as an anti-Republican commentator. After she came up with a website to dox "bullies" and got pushback from the left, rather than admit she was wrong or say "oops" she sort of followed the wave of people supporting her, which were the very same people she used to rail against.

The lengths people will go to so they can avoid saying "sorry" or doing any sort of self reflection absolutely baffles me.

That's upsetting and disappointing.

I used to watch them a lot for...maybe a year, maybe two years. Over time they revealed weak points to their arguments and leadership. John Iadarola and Ben Mankiewicz still have generally-good impressions with me (someone fill me in please if I missed something bad with them), and there are certain qualities I like about some of the others there...but overall I've grown not to trust them much. Every few months I'll check their take on a big event or see if something other media's not touched on yet, and every now and then I'll think of how they nearly got into a fist-fight with Alex Jones and Roger Stone before I smirk immaturely...but ultimately, I don't give them much time at all anymore.

For the most part he's good. Great, even. There have been a few cases where he didn't think things out quite as well as he probably could have. The most recent example, which isn't even really his fault, is that he was going to show up at a grocery store to pay for some people's groceries, and an employee leaked it, so a TON of people showed up. For safety reasons, he had to cancel, which lead to people just leaving full carts of food everywhere that the employees then had to clean up. To his credit, I believe he paid the store for the trouble or something, but it kinda showed that he didn't really have any contingency plan for such a thing. Again, not really his fault at all, but it ended up becoming a mess.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, though, ultimately. I think what he does is great. I definitely don't agree with the whole "How dare he publicize it/get views!" crap.

I'm definitely skeptical of the idea that random charity can effectively mitigate societal ills, and doubly so when it's charity from a rich Youtube celebrity. That said, any super popular YTer that's improving people's lives is one that isn't actively making people's lives worse. I'll take ten, thanks.
