I've mostly stuck with shounen and seinen titles for most of my manga reading history, and only checking out some shoujo series if they were of the "reincarnated into the villainess of an otome game" type, but I gotta say

Didn't realize that both Rune Factory 4 Special AND Megaman Zero/ZX Collection is coming out soon.

I am really really tempted to get both on the Switch. Even though I already played both of them numerous times on their original platforms.

But I only have a limited budget for games this year. (Like around $180), and I was already planning on getting Cyberpunk.

What to do?

Hmm... FF12 is a lot harder to get into than I thought.

I've only played for like 5 hours though and I only have the 1 character.

I know it'll open up once I get more members, but the different combat style will take some getting used to.

Edit: FULL DISCLOSURE, I didn't even read all the way through to the end. I stopped at around 2 arcs before the end because it was already apparent that the series was in an inescapable nosedive.

I just skimmed the responses on the manga subreddit and the overwhelming response was unanimous. It was bad.

Yeah, I skimmed the job descriptions, and I kinda want to have one of each without overlap.

I mean, 6 characters, 12 jobs and 2 jobs per character practically begs me to do that.

Yeah thats the point in the series where you go "ok, he's probably the strongest guy ever now". His effort and work have finally rewarded him with surpassing everyone else in the story, and by a large margin.

It also helps illustrate that a difference in power just makes everyone else irrelevant. You can kinda see why they would look down on weak adventurers or whatever they are called. One man can be worth millions.

Yeah he's probably the strongest S Ranker out there, but the manhwa foreshadowed the National Class Hunters a while back as potentially stronger foes.

Haven't read the source novel, but I am excited to see if they'll actually pose a bit of a challenge to our favorite necromancer.

If you're talking about him getting the dragon mount, then yeah, the manhwa's covered that already.

As of the latest chapter, the manhwa's just at the moment where Jin Woo trades with one of his shadows, saves the Korean S Team, and has a staredown with the Super Ant.

Kinda amazing to see Jin Woo just completely wreck the ants the other S-Tiers were having problems with.

Solo Leveling really is ahead of other manhwas just by its art alone.

Yeah...the very first time I played FFX I got to Yunalesca could not beat her. I don't remember why I did this but in that save I just restarted the game from the beginning and leveled up a lot more before that fight. I don't remember why I restarted though. Was there a save sphere right next to the boss fight that you can't go to a point further back or something?

Nope. I can still go back to an area with enemies if I want to grind. Bad thing is they give out piss poor ap.

FFX is on hold for now though, since I'm playing through BTB's Brave New World mod for FF6.

Holy hell, this boss Yunalesca is insane.

I feel like I'm supposed to be stronger than this at this point in the game.

Everyone is nearing the end of their sphere grids, yet no one is able to deal more than 4-5000 in damage consistently, and the bosses have like HP in the 100,000s, and can 2-shot anyone.

Am I doing something wrong?

Welp. Caved in and bought it.

It's a digital copy for the Switch and I got it just a few hours before the sale ended. Now it's back up to $50.

Looks like the Switch version of FFXII (the one with the sale) actually added a whole bunch of new stuff from the ps4 version.

License Reset Function: By talking to Clan Centurios leader Montblanc in Rabanastre, players can reset and change their party members jobs, allowing them to customize the jobs of their party as desired.

Additional Gambit Sets: Gambits allow players to customize their partys AI. Players can now create three unique sets, allowing players to switch between sets for different situations, such as map exploration or boss fights.

Improved New Game+: Allows users to start the game with party members at level 90 and carry over some items like weapons, magic and gils obtained during previous playthroughs.

Yeah I figured you couldn't truly screw yourself it's just that with those kinds of things I feel like I must be optimal so instead of playing I'll be spending a few hours looking up forum posts and planning out the exact split of jobs. It's why I didn't enjoy FE:Awakening. It was fun up until marriage but then I felt like I had to fully research exactly what would make the most optimal children and that just sucked me out of the game. It's a flaw I have.

Oh man, I had the exact same problem with FE: Awakening too.

It took me a while to get over it and finish the game eventually, but then Fire Emblem Fates had the system where you can put any skill on any character and that just drove me up the wall trying to hyper-optimize everyone.

Still haven't finished even one route, even though I bought all three.

There was a big lack of mods in general, from what I saw. A few texture packs, one or two license board complete overhauls, thats pretty much it.

Overall I think if I had literally just taken white mage I'd have been fine. Knight on main physical attackers, mix of shikari/bushi/uhlan/foebreaker/monk as secondaries for them (because you will wander your way into some OP weapon types earlier than others, so it helps to spread the number of useable weapon types amongst party members), one white+black/time mage. Pepper in anything else you might want to use. Archer and foebreaker are probably the only kind of underwhelming ones.

I used.... Monk/Bushi Vaan, Uhlan/Archer Penelo, Foebreaker/Shikari Fran, Time Mage/Knight Balthier, Foebreaker/Bushi Basch, and Red Mage/Black Mage Ashe. Main things I'd change would be foebreaker on Basch and red mage on Ashe. It's otherwise been pretty sweet. I was about 20 hours into my playthrough of zodiac age and was like level 60.

Interesting.

Having only done a very brief skim through the job/class system, I'll probably try to spread all 12 jobs for each of the six characters.

Of course, that's still a long ways off since I'm still putzing around the Calm Lands in FFX grinding out Tidus's overdrives.

Haven't played it before and know nothing about it.

I'm in the middle of my mission of playing all the Final Fantasies and am currently on FF X.

It is if you want to 100% the game or just want to get the celestial weapons.

I can understand locking the best stuff behind a long sidequest or a tough boss, but gating it behind an obnoxious minigame; like the heavily luck based races, or tedious stuff with an instant lose condition like the lightning dodging, is just bad game design.

Honestly it really wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the godawful ps2 era controls. (Or if the lightning dodging was cumulative instead of consecutive)

In other news I'm at around 30 hours in Final Fantasy X and I reached the Calm Lands.

All I have to say is FUCK the chocobo races.

This really brings down my opinion of the game as a whole.

Now that both jaiminisbox and mangastream dropped those titles, the only way for anyone to read those is by going directly to the Mangaplus app/site which is run directly by WSJ themselves.

On one hand, it's nice that we can finally read and support manga directly and officially from the publisher and thus contribute more to the mangakas themselves.

On the other, the mangaplus app/site is still in it's growing pains and some of the translations are often directly translated and stunted with no effort to localize for western readers, or even censored in some cases.

On the third tentacle, mangaplus is free to read, so that's nice. Though I'm always dreading the inevitable paywall dropping sometime in the future because it always does.

So yeah, thoughts?

I just use a combination of mangadex and lurking on r/manga o keep up with my ongoing series.

It's worked out pretty well so far, but it does also have the problem that if a series is licensed there's a 50/50 chance you won't see it discussed there.

I'll chime in with my opinion and say it's one of the best RPGs I've played in the past 5 years.

Although, it comes with a huge caveat that you must already be a fan of traditional turn-based jrpgs, or this is your first time playing a traditional jrpg and have an open mind, to really enjoy the game.

It's the best Dragon Quest has ever been so far.

In Sun/Moon you could trade/transfer in any pokemon from any gen and you could use them in-game. And that's because every pokemon has full models and animations in the game data.

In Sword/Shield, you're limited to ONLY the pokemon found in the Galar region pokedex and that's it. The ones who aren't in the pokedex don't even have models, animations, moveset data, etc. So you can't use them at all. Period.

Based on the pokedex entries for the Honedge line, they're ghosts of warriors fallen in battle that possessed their weapons. So presumably, the species didn't exist until at least the iron age equivalent in their world.

Also, the Vanillite line are actually sentient icicles that use snow to look like ice cream cones.
