Xenoblade 3 wave 4 comes next week. Like 8 months early. Holy hypenuggets.

*Spoilers for the main game*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFlf_S5Woug

I wanted to do a NG+ playthrough first with the other DLC, but that could be tricky on such short notice.

Man, and I'm right in the middle of a Dragon Quest XI playthrough too. I calculated it so that I'll be done with it right before Tears of the Kingdom comes out as well, so I don't think it'll be easy to juggle both games.

Honestly shocked that they pushed up the release so quickly. Makes me wonder if they just cut a large part of the game out in order to do that.

Haven't really been feeling the pull to 100% Xeno 3, so I started on a new game now, Harvestella.

It's been good so far. The combat is a bit meh though with no real way to dodge or block attacks.

And the farming is a bit on the simple side.

The graphics and sound design are GORGEOUS though.

I wouldn't say this is better than Rune Factory though. It does some things better than RF but there are other things worse.

Honestly if they can somehow make a game that combines the best part of both games, that would be the perfect Rune Factory game.

Beat the final boss of Xeno 3.

All I can say for the ending is eeeehhhh...

The final battle itself was hype though.

As for the final final scenes, ehhhhh... Too ambiguous for my tastes, especially comparing it to the clear-cut endings of the previous Xeno titles.

So the worlds are fated to smash into each other again. But it feels inconsistent since Aionios is supposed to be the suspended state of initial impact stretched out for eternity, but in the end we hear a passage from Mio's diary that she was able to keep living for a couple of months?

Off-seeing is a minor thing that also bugged me. The way the game heavily focused on it in the early parts of the game, I thought it would have more impact on the overall design of the world than it ended up being.

Like I was waiting for the reveal that it was sending off the data back to Origin or something, but no, it really was just a fancy funeral rite since mud dolls and personal belongings could also emit light.

It's a weird to be feeling like this for this game since I can remember a distinct sense of satisfaction and finality when I finished 1 and 2, but for this one, it didn't satisfy me as much. It wasn't bad but I can't say it was good either.

Still gonna try to 100% the game though. Though I do so with the knowledge that as far as the story goes, what I'm gonna do would be pointless in the end.

Also, side note, it took until the final scene for it to click with me that Lanz was supposed to be a machina. Like all Agnians were Blade Eaters, Flesh Eaters, or Blades; and Keves are Homs, High Entia and Machina. They REALLY changed up the machina designs between the games apparently.

Finally reached Chapter 7 of Xeno 3.

Lots of things revealed finally. Will have to see how it all resolves before I give my thoughts on it. I will say that I am glad that Nia still kept part of her goofy charm.

And can I just say that they did Sena dirty with her Side Story!?

She was barely in it! Not only was it the shortest of the Side Stories, she wasn't even the main feature of it! It felt more like Ghondor's Ascension quest rather than Sena's. They really wasted an opportunity to flesh out her backstory or explore her personality more.

And I can I just say how awesome the main cast is? I don't think I have felt this kind of immediate attachment to the party compared to the other Xeno games.

I think the main contributing factor for that is that they are all together at the start instead of getting added one by one as the story progresses. This allows the game to focus on expanding their interpersonal relationships and growing and revealing their personalities.

Noah as a protagonist is still kinda bleh compared to Shulk for now (but is infinitely better than Rex), but the rest of the party really bring up the whole experience.

Speaking of Xeno 3, just finished chapter 4 and am now at the start of chapter 5.

As I feared I was woefully overleveled for the Keves Castle area. Though that might be also because I did the Incursor class sidequest which I guess was supposed to be done around level 40-45, even though it unlocked around chapter 3. And the story area was around 38-40.

Still, I'm growing classes at a good pace. I only have 2-3 classes that aren't maxed on everyone. I guess taking the time to farm for 6 Mastery Necklaces once I hit level 30 was worth it.

As far as the story goes, (Chapter 4 spoilers ahead!) did the writers REALLY expect that we wouldn't recognize Consul N as Noah when they first showed him off way back in like chapter 2? They had a whole dramatic reveal and everything, as if it wasn't blatantly obvious at the start. Might have been better if he also had the full helmet on like the rest of the consuls so that the reveal would have had more impact.

And I'm glad that my guess about Melia was wrong. I had a couple of theories on why she might have turned evil, but I honestly did not expect the "She was a robot all along" angle. I don't know if that's a sign of good writing or bad, but it was unexpected that's for sure.

I'm now definitely intrigued on how this world came to be. There haven't been any significant lore explanation on how this whole continent formed or why the areas of Xeno 1 and 2 are here. Hopefully they'll explain it eventually, and not leave it like, "that's how the world is" type of explanation.

Played quite a bit of Xeno 3.

Just got the second hero.

I can already see that fully maxing out the classes before postgame is gonna be a chore.

All the enemies around where I am right now are around level 15-20, and I'm already at 23.

Everyone has at least 3 classes mastered already, but now the growth is slowing down since they're in their C and D ranked classes.

Everything else has been great though. The game runs great, the music is great, the environments are great, just greatness all around.

Still not sure how to optimize combat arts and chain attacks yet, but I hope it'll get easier with time.

As for the story side, the only gripe I have is that the villians are almost cartoonishly evil. I'm having a hard time believing that Nia and Melia would allow these people to work for them, if those queens really are them.

I can already see myself just skipping enemies and not engaging with the battle system as much which might bring down the whole playing experience.

For what it's worth I got mine for the switch and had a blast with it.

It's a turn-based game so high fps isn't a necessity, and the game maintains a consistently smooth 30 fps throughout. Never had a single dropped frame in my 300+ hours with it.

Up to you whether you prioritize higher fidelity graphics and visuals over portability.

For me personally, the persona style of visual novel + turn-based combat + dungeon crawling in segmented sessions of gameplay, lends itself perfectly for portable gaming.

Technically you only really need to go Mementos around the end when it's forced on you. It's completely optional. However, there are some late confidant ranks that are locked behind Mementos requests.

A far as efficiency goes, you only really need to go to Mementos at least once a month.

I usually wait until a few days after clearing a Palace and letting a few requests build up, or if there's a confidant lock that I wanna get through.

Got all the Thieves Den awards, unlocked every unlockable in the den, got both endings for both original and royal path, watched all the unique confidant scenes, and built a perfect team of max level, max stats persona.

Clocked in at around 300 hours.

Yeah, the game really feels like more of an action jrpg, with farming on the side; rather than a full mix of both arpg and farming life sim.

But who knows, this is just based on initial reactions to the demo, and they might have added a romance system for the full game.

Just have to wait and see.

See, now this sounds interesting.

Though I suppose it depends on exactly which aspects of Stardew and Final Fantasy you're combining. Because the best elements of both could make for a really cool game, but the worst elements of both could result in something incredibly awful.

I also suppose it depends on which era of Final Fantasy we're talking about. The more enjoyable fantasy of earlier games or the ultra-weeb nonsense of recent titles.

It's more on the Bravely Default side of fantasy rather than the modern fantasy of the newer FFs.

Also it's relatively light on the Life-Sim aspects since, as far as I know, there's no marriage or romance system. There is a "trust" system where you gain ranks in "trust" for npcs as you do sidequests.

The manwha is called "The Greatest Estate Developer" if you guys wanna read it.

And like I said, it's a not that serious manwha about a guy with a master's degree in civil engineering that gets isekai'd as the delinquent son of a debt-ridden noble, and tries to use his knowledge to get himself out of debt and live a cushy life.

Generic premise yes, but it's surprisingly well paced, the characters have hidden depth, leans more into comedy but has fantastic actions scenes as well.

That kind of gets into the whole "who gets to decide that a cow's life is worth more than a tomato's?" argument against vegetarianism that people like to break out occasionally. The simple answer is trophic levels: to grow 100 calories of herbivore meat, you have to feed them ~1000 calories of plant matter. The simple mathematical reality of the matter is that carnivory kills more plants than herbivory does.

While "I'm going to eat meat instead of plants because I respect the woods too much" seems reasonable on a first pass, in practice it's a pretty short-sighted mentality, which is generally at odds with the whole "wise and immortal" trope that's usually applied to elves.

The elves in the mawha were mostly hunters though, and they operate more on a "let nature do its own thing, we'll just eat animals since we like plants too much" approach.

Also, since it's a not-that-serious manwha the author made another trope reversal and made the elves somewhat meatheads, and let the MC bribe them with steak, so they don't really have that "old and wise angle" going for them either.

I'm reading that too, but the dark elves were never shown to be explicitly plant loving. They were sorta just like generic forest dwellers.

I was reading a manwha (korean comic/webtoon) the other day with a pretty unique take on elves.

They're the protectors of the forest they live in and revere plants so much that they developed the ability to jump across treetops without harming leaves (think Tolkien elven snow walking but with leaves), wear hides and leather clothing, use metal bows and arrows, are disgusted by the way humans use wood for fences and buildings, and only eat meat.

Now I'm wondering if there are any other depictions of elves in other series that follow that same train of thought, since it seems like that would be logical endpoint for a society of plant worshippers.

Are there other games/books/comics that y'all know of with this take on elves?
