Sorry, I was sleepy and my mind jumped to the Megaman legacy collections as the closest example.

But then I realized it's not that strange for Capcom to do this since they also did a Phoenix Wright collection.

HAH!

Through prodigious abusing of the cloud save feature from a free trial Nintendo Online subscription, I managed to get ALL random Rare Blades, without having to grind for a single Legendary Crystal.

Now all I need is to use all future Legendary Crystals to get 4 star blades for Overdrive farming.

Dammit, a client cancelled their photobooth reservation. I was counting on that payday so I could buy Astral Chain and Dragon Quest XI.

Plus, my boss is in the middle of moving to another state, so bookings are on hold until near the end of September.

Ah well.

In other news, I'm still in the middle of my Xenoblade 2 playthrough. Just reached chapter 5. Kinda rushing things a bit until I get all party members then I'll start grinding out stuff I skipped.

It's literally nothing at all like Dragon's Dogma lol.

If you're familiar with Platinum games like Bayonetta, or Nier: Automata, you'll recognize the gameplay style of this one.

Basically, Legions are the main "weapons" you use in combat. You get 5 over the course of the game, and each one has different combat styles and their own individual skill trees. You and your Legion fight together, chaining combos and literally chaining and locking down foes.

You also use them to solve Zelda-like puzzles in the "dungeons" and to help out in police investigations in the "real world."

It doesn't have a true open world in that sense, but you do have a hub area, which is the police station, and from there you can travel to the different sections of the city; all of which are fairly large and have areas and secrets to explore.

Woo finally finished Ys VIII.

Got the True Ending and even beat the secret dungeon and secret super-boss.

The ending was, for lack of a better term... very JRPG-ish.

I mean, you start out the game stranded on a deserted island fighting dinosaurs, and end up fighting the very concept of Evolution itself, and killing the origin of all life

Oh and everything was just a dream lol. But that's okay, because the literal goddess of the earth remade everything. Also there's a goddess of the earth now. And your favorite party member, the one who you spent the entire game developing an attachment to? Yeah, her entire history is literally erased from existence and she exists only as a concept now. But that's okay because SHE is now the overseer of evolution, but only you and your party knows it.
.

This really is a problem I've noticed with jrpgs. They can't end things properly.

Despite the lackluster ending though, I had a great time playing it, and recommend anyone who likes action jrpgs to play it.

I'm a big fan of the other Xenoblade games, so I was already halfway invested in this game from the start.

The only thing I'm worried about is the gachapon system they have for Blades.

I've read that it's better to build your characters to fill a single role rather than give them different blades and have them be multiclassed/hybrids.

And knowing my luck, I'll probably end up with tank blades for my healer characters or something.

So I'm at the point of no return for Ys VIII and was feeling a bit tired of the endgame grind.

I decided to pop in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and play like the prologue or early first chapter, like the first 1 or 2 hours basically, just to get a taste of what's next and to mix things up.

Bad idea.

I am now hooked on the game and I'm 6 hours in. :P

I've always had this annoying habit of stopping a game JUST before the end or final boss and never actually completing the game.

Because of that I promised myself I would finish each and every game I bought for my Switch, but it looks like I already failed that with Mario Odyssey. I mean I technically did finish the main story, it's all the post game stuff, which apparently accounts for 30% of the game, that I haven't done.

Got my controller replaced at the store.

I chose a Zelda themed one this time, and I also opted for the in-store warranty for an extra $5, since apparently the manufacturer's warranty for the controller only works if I send it to Australia, where the company is based.

Usually I don't bother with those, but given the propensity for these things to break, I decided to have a little insurance.

Yeah, I'm halfway through chapter 2 and I've found only one other typo, and it's just a missing "to" in a sentence.

So far the localization has been great. No weird sentence structures, no confusing phrases, and no obvious direct-to-english translation of japanese idioms.

I have been TEARING through Mario Odyssey lately. The game is just so much fun to control and move around in. Plus, the constant feeling of progress of getting moon after moon after moon after moon, is just so addicting that I'm already halfway through the game. (I think, I just unlocked the luncheon kingdom)

SO to pace myself and savor the game more (and actually play something that's relevant to the topic), I've started Ys VIII.

First impressions: it immediately hooked me in better than Shining Resonance Refrain. Although I gotta say, the framerate in cutscenes get noticeably choppy. Also, I already noticed two grammatical errors in just the prologue alone. That doesn't bode well.

Still, the combat is fast-paced and snappy, and the framerate is relatively stable in combat even when there's a lot going on. I can tell I'm gonna like this one way more than Shining Resonance.

The most reliable way, and how I got mine, is to renew your Pro Rewards membership; but they sometimes give those out randomly to free members as a special event. They also sometimes do these as a storewide sale.

Got a buy 2 get 1 free coupon at gamestop so I decided to maximize the amount I could save. (The free game has to be equal to or the lowest price of the three games)

All these are games I'm currently interested in, and cost around $50

Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Octopath Traveler
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
Fire Emblem: Three Houses*
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild**

*I have to wait for a pre-owned copy to show up since the coupon only applies to those.
** I already have this for the Wii U, along with all the DLC, but having the game on the go is very tempting

The next group are games I've heard great things about but I haven't played any of the earlier games in the series to gauge how I'll like the newest ones. These also cost around $50.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Super Mario Party
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
Mario Maker 2
God Eater 3
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee*

*Never really got into Pokemon Go though, so I'm not sure how I'll handle the changed mechanics.

And there's also lots of games under $40, but I really want to maximize the savings I'll get from the coupon.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Started playing Shining Resonance Refrain.

It's... okay.

It's your typical anime/waifu dating sim/jrpg, but it's been a while since I played one of those, so I actually find myself enjoying it. The combat is pretty good, and seeing as I'm still on the first chapter I can see the potential for it becoming deeper.

It's feels pretty low-budget with most of the story scenes so far consisting of VN style two characters on screen talking and emoting. The english VA is surprisingly decent though. The mook/npc/grunt voices are pretty phoned in, but the main cast is pretty good. Environments look nice, and the music is okay.

Definitely not worth $40 considering Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition costs the same and is a way better game overall. Luckily I got the game on clearance so I only paid like 18 bucks for it. :)

So yeah, apparently we've been warped in some bizzaro timeline where NINTENDO of all people is committed to non-censorship of third-party games.

tl;dw

Nintendo has stated that they will not impose restrictions or censorship for third party-games on their console, and instead will leave it to each country's ratings boards, and their own built-in parental controls.

Although, they haven't really made it clear what their stance is on games that they themselves published, i.e. first or second party software.

Still, looks like the new place to go if you want non-censored japanese tiddies will be on Switch and PC from now on, and not PS4.

Don't know what the policy is for linking to reddit, so the video has links to there instead.

Like the video said, you'd need a 3DS modded to play Homebrew for this to work, but it should work for both digital and physical versions of the game.

The changes to the swimming mechanic always bugged me and prevented the remake from being the "definitive" version of the game in my eyes. With this fix, it's now one step closer to that.

The modder also said that they're working on a way to map the main transformation masks on the D-pad, and to shorten the Twinmold fight.

If they can do that, then the 3DS version will unequivocally be the BEST version of Majora's Mask.

It kind of surprises me that we haven't had a leveling progress focused isekai. You'd think that'd be the generic standard but they virtually never put any emphasis on the worlds mechanics and working your way up with them

In anime yeah they're rare, but in manga they're literally 80% of the currently releasing manga right now.

There's sooooo many of them. And almost each and every one of them follows the same basic "adventurer's guild" rules (ranking up from F to E requires completing missions), magic system with MP, Skills and Talent systems, Character Classes etc. It gets pretty grating to have to sit through their explanations every time I read a new series.

Plus, they literally come out with new ones every other week. I think I started 5 new isekai mangas just this month. And they ALL have the same leveling/guild/class/party system.

It's getting to the point where I welcome any new "generic" rom/com harems since they're now the rare ones at this point.

I think it's because it's got to live up to the Final Fantasy legacy, and all the hype it built up around itself before release that it got so much hate.

If it were called any other game, it would have been received a lot better I think.

Finished Final Fantasy 1 alongside the main story of 15!

Kinda impressed I managed to space out playthroughs of both to do that.

Now, I'm gonna move on to 15's post-game and start on the black sheep of the series, Final Fantasy 2.

Isekai has taken over the world XD

All I care about is when the next cream of the crop anime will come out. Usually manganerds know which of these are going to be good, my friend lol XD He says Dr. Stone will be good, heres hoping.

Your friend is right. Dr. Stone is a good manga, and it'll be perfect for an anime with the way the manga is structured and paced.

I actually already started a while ago, but thanks anyways for the recommendations!

I went with a Red Mage for the fourth member, and I've been having a pretty good time with it.

Just got done promoting the party, level 32, and now on my way to the third crystal.

Now that I'm playing through this game, it's kinda giving me ideas on doing a full series run on the PSP, since the first 4 games are on it.

You know, it really is incredible just how much Japan LOVES Dragon Quest.

I found a video showing off the Japanese reactions to the new DQ Hero reveal in smash.

I don't think any other character reveal has garnered this much of a reaction.

It's so heartwarming and wholesome.

At 4:41 especially you can FEEL the love when he keeps saying "arigatou Sakurai-san!" and when he starts crying afterwards.

HM is dead as shit.
Hopefully Rune Factory will continue, I think 4 is getting a Switch port?

Yup. 4 is getting an enhanced port with added special features.

Rune Factory 5 is also currently in development.

Super stoked that the series isn't finished.

Man, playing FFXV made me kinda nostalgic for the original Final Fantasy that started it all.

I only remember playing the GBA version of it a loooong time ago. But now that I can, I kinda want to play the, supposedly, definitive PSP version of it.

So I'll do it! I'll play the original (well, not really original since it's a remake) Final Fantasy, alongside the newest Final Fantasy.

Now, I'll obviously stick to the base three classes of Fighter/WMage/BMage, but who should my fourth be?

I should really go back and finish Doom someday.

I know I liked it a lot while I was playing it, but I somehow found myself just stopping after getting the BFG, and not finding the urge to play more

Guess it was just too much action all the time?
