Because usually, they do this by cropping out the top and bottom of the screen, causing certain details to be removed, even if it's part of the punchline or joke. With the Simpsons, the outcry was enough that, Disney+--which originally only had the 16:9 versions as an option--finally relented and allowed viewers to switch back to the original 4:3 aspect ratio. But I read that there are several other old shows on Disney+ that are forced into 16:9 with no option to switch back to 4:3, because they didn't get anywhere near the outcry that the Simpsons did. Malcolm in the Middle is an interesting case, as it was originally filmed during production as 16:9 but with the intent of being edited and cropped for the then-standard 4:3 TVs. However, newer versions of the show available on streaming platforms use the 16:9 footage, resulting in oddities originally off-screen and meant to be cropped out now in full view. Still, are people really that bothered if an old show doesn't fill the complete full screen of their widescreen TV? As for Grass, yeah, the remaining non-Legendary Grass types beyond Deerling (Foongus/Amoonguss, and Ferroseed/Ferrothorn) really aren't that impressive, for ingame at least. I recall one story where one guy's parents would let his spoiled, autistic younger brother blow out his candles, and then light them again so the OP could blow them out, because otherwise if the brother didn't, he'd throw a tantrum and toss the cake to the floor.
