How not to post things hateful of other people? How to have a civil discussion without resorting to insults? The vast majority of people whining about mods or the rules are incapable of doing these very simple things.

I think it was Viacom that bought some websites that had active forums 20 or so years ago.
They closed the forums, then wondered why the traffic dropped.

This is how conservative governments shut programs down. They bleed them dry and make them inefficient and then use that inefficiency as justification to pull the plug entirely.

Agreed. This probably means the kinda of topics Vegy and NeonOctopus made are pretty much banned. Last I heard that user NihonOctupus went away so NeonOctopus might be gone for good end of an era.

The only thing I am not sure on is the extent of it taking place on the game boards since I haven't been on those in like 10 years. Last time I was on game board was the Pokemon one and people were making which Pokemon would you fuck topics. Gardevoir was the constant #1.

Topics that essentially serve no purpose other than the objectification and oversexualization of women. Its degrading and misogynistic, and most definitely not an act of love.

There are negative mental health impacts from objectification and oversexualization, and this is supposed to be a place that welcomes and accepts a diverse array of gamers, rather than catering to horny cishet men to the exclusion of women.

This is why racism, sexism, and other forms of bigotry are not allowed, because that content can be harmful and exclusionary as well. This community is (supposedly) for everyone.

They could have done this 10 or 20 years ago when there might have been a bigger userbase. There was also that statement on transphobia where was that last year during the Hogwarts Legacy release. I saw a couple users close their account over the types of topics/posts getting made.

They locked all these topics as soon as the announcment was published, so yes, that's a very clear statement that these topics are now banned because of horny.

Ofc you could always try to wiggle some room with "this is just official promo art", but if it gets modded, you are banned from CE for life now.

It's just elections and they don't want left wing rhetoric to correct the right wing. If the right wing stay radicalized, the better for them. It's why all media is controlled by the conservatives. It's to give doubt and not clarity. If they find out the world isn't falling, they may rethink their stance.

That's not what happened at all. The only person who closed their account claimed it was because gunplagirl was banned because of transphobia. Gunplagirl was banned for trolling by posting all major Hogwarts Legacy spoilers and not marking it as spoilers.

Well this is really depressing news. Forums have been a huge part of my social outlet and connection since middle school in 2000. This one isn't perfect but the only other one I really ever had a connection to is a spinoff of a LUE site which is full of toxic users and I'm probably never going back there.

fwiw if you're talking about LUElinks/ETI, that site shut down after purging mass amounts of problem users and the replacement site is generally a lot more palatable. for the most part.

and I will again push Thread Zone because I do feel passionate about making sure soon-to-be-displaced CE users have somewhere to go, and this is a ready-made GameFAQs-style forum with modern features

I have to second Sneasel and recommend the new site - LL being shut down was one of the best things for the community, the new site brought a *lot* of activity to the community (and made a lot of the rude people show their true selves, leading to them getting the ban hammer!)

I tried the new site. Maybe I'm just too sensitive but people always turn shit personal when you are talking about general political or current event topics. I want to just have general conversations with people not get into fights about my character or how I am fucked up (typing this makes me sound like a douche though).

I will check out ThreadZone though thank you for the link.

Funniest part is that things will effectively revert as soon as the admins stop paying attention for another year and a half.

there was an active "secret" board here years ago where all the users decided that gfaqs was too lame, so they went to their own new site, and all that happened without any moderation at all is the people just got mean as fuck to each other, posting porn, gore/shock vids, telling each other to kill themselves, it immediately became unpleasant. the mods and rules here can be bullshit sometimes, but you really do need them. i'm not going to some random site or discord server just so people can finally go mask off on each other like they always wanted

A lot of the "hornyposting" (lol at them making this a word) was nsfw and akin to soft porn imo. I bet if there were multiple threads with dudes bent over in thongs someone would have a problem with it.
