Yeah not saying you weren't just wanted to elaborate on why I think history will show Avatar as the "better aged" of the two and your post kinda brought up a future perspective thing that I think matters.

I guess at this point I'm partially arguing "will age worse" than "has aged worse" though. Once LMS moves onto another topic then you know Ep 7-9 talk is long enough dead that it's definitely a matter of has than will.

I guess I see Avatar being regarded as a notable movie in the future, even if "in the same league as citizen kane" is completely ridiculous the effects were revolutionary for the time and it left quite a footprint on pop culture for a while, so it'll still be something to watch in a historical sense. Also even if the plot isn't anything new, the setting is at least an original setting rather than part of dozens of movie franchise.

TFA on the other hand will be more and more of a footnote the further we get away from Rise of Skywalker. The plot being hugely derivative of A New Hope will pretty much kill any lasting appeal that wasn't already extinguished by the director power struggles and disappointment.

So the risk of margin isn't the interest charged as much as that they get their money back at all costs

So if your portfolio goes down you MUST sell at a loss eventually and they get theirs back before you get yours.

The most extreme example, since a lot of places will let you use your entire portfolio value on margin, is for example a case where you use 10k on margin and have 10k of assets. So your portfolio becomes 20k value. But if your portfolio falls 50%, you are forced to sell and they get their money first, so your 10k value goes straight to them. Red sox posted a table once that illustrates this better.

Anyway this is only really a problem if you're using a lot of margin or your stuff goes down a lot. You can't disasterproof your portfolio but if you only use say 10% portfolio value margin the chances of it actually mattering are really really low unless you're investing in a super unsafe way.

I also think it's a waste to spend millions on energy to produce milk because I think milk is gross, but that's kind of a dumb comment to make, right? Because you don't find value in something means that it shouldn't be produced since energy is finite? Pretty arrogant and solipsistic.

It's cute that you think topping off your statement with an exclamation point from your word of the day calendar makes your analogy on point, but your analogy would be accurate if for example instead of milk as a whole, it was one specific brand of hypothetical new milk, say I dunno, TechLactenZ. In a hypothetical world TechLactenZ had to destroy 3 adult trees per gallon of milk they produced as part of the milk refining process (we grind up trees and put it into the milk-- I don't get it either) yet said they were superior because you could drink this milk anywhere you wanted to even when people didn't want you to drink milk.

Putting off exploring this new milk source until we could reliably generate adult trees at our leisure would not be thought of as arrogant as much as practical unless we wanted to drain the world's supply of trees because this milk maybe takes a little longer to spoil than Borden's. Planting a bunch of trees to help this new milk company have trees to destroy to make their milk helps, but doesn't solve the core problem.

For the energy cost it absolutely is

At some point our renewable energy infrastructure may reach the point where the energy cost isn't relevant because we're spending energy we have in abundance

But putting more money into infrastructure for renewable energy doesn't change the cost or the fact that that cost is better used on other things right now

You can spend $400 on a Zero Bar or a Milky Way or whatever if you make 400k a year all you want and it doesn't matter, but that doesn't mean you couldn't get much better things for that $400.

It's not a take, it's an interpretation of your post...

Think of energy like money

If you spend all your money on the cause of buying heroin to distribute to school children, it is, I suppose, better if you use money you obtained by the profits made by your contracting company you worked hard to build from the ground up, than by robbing a bank.

But ultimately wasting energy is wasting energy, and all this is doing is trying to create a sustainable source of power for the energy it's wasting when you could better use that energy for pretty much anything else.

I don't necessary believe this is really the next ENZC. I'm not smart enough to understand the science, and would rather take the money and be safe.

It WILL dip after the run at some point-- you can't always time the top perfectly but you're going to be selling half on the way up or the way down

And while it may come back even stronger after said dip you probably aren't going to have the patience to hold long enough for that and just end up settling for a smaller gain in the end.

So I mean I often sell half-- that's my trademark move, but yeah only when I believe in the stock quite a bit. AMC I didn't sell half. AVCTW I didn't sell half.

I think unless you have some fundamental reason to believe in the company to continue to grow the right move is to sell the whole thing.

If you're just playing hype you're going to lose money more often than not by holding because regression happens more often than the stock continuing to go up immediately.

Now if you want to sell half and hold the rest long that's another type of play entirely.

Yeah, nobody cares about the 55k payment. 5% percent royalties for 15 years is a pretty crazy deal though. Also their subsidiary, KCL Therapeutics got 50,000 shares of ONPH, valued at around $1.85 million now.

Well I care about it because that figure exists for some sort of reason, and if that figure is significant to the company in any context beyond a weekly payment we're looking at a company that is super over-valued at 80m market cap. The company that bought it was in the dumpster a couple of months ago and is only 1b market cap now after that huge recover, so the shares of ONPH are a bit questionable in value too.

I also look at their last reported financials and they were burning 2m a quarter in 2017.

Sold at a $200 loss. Put the money into another 2023 $35 FUBO Call. Still have some cash left over as the FUBO call was worth less than the 17000 shares (sold at $0.061). If it dips a ton I'll get back in but yeah at that price point I got in at I actually really don't like it the more I think about it.

So the big red flag on the deal for me is that the base fee they're receiving is $55k it seems.

There are percentages and such they're getting but that seems like chump change in the grand scheme of things. What is that base reimbursement supposed to symbolize? Is it like their expected revenue per month and frontloading one month? If that is what they're getting then it'd be over half a million a year. For an 80m market cap company that seems really insignificant.

Think I'm gonna be holding a bag on this. Oh well.

I mean I just think if you buy entirely on hype without entirely understanding company fundamentals to a point where you can't even confidently place a very conservative floor it feels really risky. Hype alone is whimsical. I've seen stocks pop 100% on total non-news announcements. I've seen them drop after 'good news' too.

What's your exit strategy if for example you bought at $0.04 and it dropped to $0.03 before an announcement? Do you lose 25%? Do you hold until the announcement?

I'm actually interested in this company as a potential long hold because I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer which seems like its thing, so it seems like it'd be I dunno, nice if it was actually a thing worth believing in, but I don't have any idea why it's this low to begin with.

TFA was fine when it came out and is still fine now. Certain people are just starting to retroactively hate it because Disney fucked up the rest of the trilogy.

TFA could have been a flawed, but perfectly serviceable start to a great trilogy. That we didnt get that is not the fault of the first movie.

When talking in terms of whether something has aged well, I think the fate of the trilogy is absolutely relevant.

People gave TFA a lot of passes on mediocrity because "it's setting up for something good" and so the fact that it didn't actually set up for anything worth watching is important. What makes it worse in TFA's case is that the trilogy hardly even has continuity because of changing directors wanting to do their own thing-- you can pretty much just watch TLJ and Skywalker as standalone movies with TFA being completely irrelevant at this point.

There are hundreds of thousands of movies in existence at this point. TFA doesn't really do much particularly wrong but it doesn't really do much right either. The answer at one point to "why would you bother to watch watch TFA?" was "so we'd be able to watch the later films in the trilogy and be able to follow them" and now that you know you're leading into two bad movies there's pretty much no reason to watch it, because you shouldn't watch any of them.

It's not offensive but you should have higher standards for watching movies than that.

So in many regards it has absolutely aged poorly. I'd definitely call Avatar the film that's more worth watching these days.

(The only other reason it's worth watching is as a conversation piece, but it's lost a lot of appeal there too because the sequels didn't deliver and outright wiped out a lot of the pieces that TFA set up-- Avatar has it beat in that regard at that point as well)

When you buy a FUBO call for $22 strike it lets you buy 100 shares at $22

So if you pay $0.40 for the option your break even point on expiration is $22.40, so generally for something so short term you'd need to reach that price to make money.

The volatility calculation can skew this as can the time remaining. Say it got to $22.22 tomorrow morning then it's going to be worth more than $0.40 but I wouldn't try to game that. That's the path to ruin
