You can play premades as a non premade. Just depends on who is queueing

Source? I was under the impression that FD was right, here.

And you know even if the other team claims they're a premade they can be lying, too.

If the original Nexus beatdown was a 10 on the "holy ****" meter, I put these Show attacks at like a 7.5.

Using Nexus as 10 I'd probably give them a 3. With "random finisher in the ring" being a 1, "random finisher on the floor at ringside" being a 2. Also while Kane's more stupid attacks would rate below this he's definitely done better. His random smotherings of Cena a few months ago beat it-- and his top rope chair guillotines really beat it.

Mark Henry did it a lot better just cause the dude is better with intensity. Show is not a naturally intense guy. Show only really works if he's showing things that look like massive feats of strength like tossing a guy really far or something. He hasn't really done any of that so I'm left kinda getting sleepy during the things.

And yeah Biscuit brings up a good point too-- when we're served 2+ squashes a week you need to step it up a bit for another squash to really feel special. I feel like they've just been phoning things in these days. Orton vs Kane I thought was a funny feud because it blatantly felt completely random. Now we've got Kane/Punk/Bryan based on random beatdowns and Orton aimlessly RKOing people and Ryback/Tensai/Brodus doing their weekly squashes and... just oversaturated.

Yeah, I had a similar reaction to Marle on the DS for some reason. I don't think they changed much at all with her though. I think we're just more tolerant now.

Might be. Maybe it's cause there are characters that are so much better at being annoying than Marle is these days. I don't think I'm more tolerant towards bad characters in general, though. I've played games in the last year that had me facepalming over certain characters-- and I've replayed RPGs in the last few years like FFX-2 (failed yes I get it Leonhart go away damn you) and FFVIII and the characters were still just as terrible as I remember.

Not that I'm a Marle fan or anything now but tolerance is a wonderful thing considering CT doesn't have many great characters to help take your focus

Man I thought Protoman's name was officially spelt Protoman. Anyway I agree with you that Proto Man looks dumb, and much like certain other characters I will continue to spell it Protoman while saying it's correct.

Also that Mega Man cartoon was so goofy. I liked it though and it was probably mostly for Protoman, but I agree with you that Protoman (and Mega Man/Rush/Roll for that matter) was totally different than the games' representation than them.

Bonus Q: Kirby, though for completely different reasons than one would like Protoman, obviously. If we change the criteria for my favorite badass design it's Dante or Sephiroth. Protoman's certainly in contention, though. Shadez and reppin da scarf like a champ.

I dunno why you're giving this Show booking so much props, Jakyl.

It's a watered down version of a cliche we've seen 20 times already. Angry monster annihilates random midcarders oh no. Only this time it doesn't really feel like an annihilation it just feels like a normal attack. Like I don't feel these guys should be stretchered out, personally. They should stagger up and limp backstage as if they'd just taken a finisher on the floor.

To be fair I'm not putting this entirely on Show. Part of it is more "safe" product. Not that I'm against it, but really stiff shots and blood really helped to sell beatdowns. And the environment being the ring both times also doesn't help. Beatdowns backstage kinda feel more intense by default.

Now Big Show's relative lack of intensity doesn't help, mind you. Ryback for instance beating up jobbers looks pretty brutal so you can do it with this product and setting, but a guy like Big Show really can't.

So yeah I mean, maybe you're just saying you like the idea in concept, but I'm saying in execution it's so weak it hardly even matters. Good concepts only matter if there's execution to back them up. I don't think this is doing much more to establish Big Show that his win record/size combined with a heel promo or two couldn't.

For the latest bonuses:

Probably the Chrono Cross thing everyone's talkin about-- the part when the moment starts is amazing.

And lol playing completionist. Though I guess out of the things that I just happened to complete it'd be the Gift mode of Lufia 2. Not technically a "completionist" reward but you do have to beat the game twice to get it so.

Oh and not to try and hijack the topic or anything but I'm tearing through Chrono Trigger now. It's strange because while I remember everything I felt a lot of things were a lot later in the game than they were-- like Magus's Castle and Tyran Castle. Like I got to both of these at < 10 hours into the game. Granted some of that might be knowing where to go but jeez. The former especially is some pretty awesome stuff to have so early. Really well setup dungeon-- feels bigger thann it is.

And I have to admit the DS translation is helping Frog a lot. Also Marle too who doesn't seem nearly as annoying as I remember her-- not sure if that's just me being more tolerant or whether the writing for her character changed though to be fair. Actually spreading my party out a lot more than I used to due to Marle/Ayla/Frog not really annoying me this time. Maybe it's NOSTALGIA, though.

Could be the best MGS game. Could be.

Gameplay looks better in this one than the other trailers though I'm not sure whether it's because they made improvements or because they aren't emphasizing the combo based combat in this one and instead displaying for stealth kills and stuff.

That match was perfectly serviceable. Sting wasn't sucking wind. He was doing enough moves that the match didn't boil down to "punch punch punch." Didn't look stiff. Was there something specific that was wrong or can I just assume you guys are both just projecting "50 years old" onto your perception of Sting's ring work.

I mean don't get me wrong I'm not saying "Sting is just as good as he was 15 years ago" I'm just saying "Sting is still good enough to have a good match with a guy who doesn't suck (ie Roode)"

There are ways you can run similar stories and have them build off each other rather than detract.

Not that TNA will necessarily do this but there's no reason that Storm also doing this is necessarily a bad thing.

And of course there's also a possibility that Storm's route is significantly different in some way.

I disagree the booking is harming Roode, because Sting is still presented as a threat.

Your perception is that Sting is washed up and over 50 and therefore shouldn't be relevant or a threat-- I think that's skewing your perception of the harm done by the losses. (I also think that's skewing your perception of his performance in the ring but I digress) That's not the real of the situation though-- that's not how it's presented. It's presented that "this is a Sting who has refocused himself and is stronger than he's been in years"-- so that Sting is a threat Roode has not yet faced. Thusly it makes sense for him to first get the better of him, despite Roode's previous win.

Honestly you kinda remind me of those people who thought OMG ROCK BEATING CENA KILLS CENA'S MOMENTUM AND POPULARITY because their perception was that Rock was an actor and not involved with the business but that's not how WWE presented it at all. It was "super power vs super power" and one super power won-- no harm done. Now it's "persistent champion vs reinvigorated challenger" and in that case it's all about who wins the war, not the battles.

I think you're a little harsh on Sting, for that matter. Guy seemed fine out there tonight. Didn't seem out of shape to me-- he even did some flying stuff. I'd also disagree he's particularly stale... Sting's kind of timeless as a "legend" character at this point. Unless you just mean "old" instead of stale. But if a guy can still wrestle at 52 I say let him do his thing. It's not like Sting's burying Roode or anything-- and I'd be shocked if Sting won this exchange in the end. Feud probably ends after this PPV and Sting... I dunno what Sting moves onto but yeah.

Or you can just look at what "stuff" they showed in the match. I don't see a big difference. They're just different ways to say "you looked good out there, but you lost."

Like I don't think it's fair to say "oh well this guy held up against Austin Aries and this guy held up against Robbie E" cause then you put too much weight on the opponent. I also don't think either guy did anything particularly notable against his opponent. It's not like Aries was ever in serious trouble. If they have a match in gut check where a guy stays in say the Last Chancery of Aries for 20 seconds before tapping-- then they can say "wow you had a lot of grit in there" as a big point more than "well give me a promo I wanna see if you have the charisma"

I will also say though that Gut Check so far has failed because the guy who DIDN'T get signed had a better personality, was better in-ring, and was more competitive against a MUCH MUCH stronger kayfabe opponent than the guy who DID get signed. I mean, if winning (or at least being competitive) doesn't matter, then why bother even having the matches?

Though I will say I agree with this 100%. If you look at both segments in a vacuum it's fine but if you look at both together it does look pretty weird.

For me I suppose you can chalk that up to "well there are new judges now and Taz is more of a hardass than Flair"

And yet when a guy loses, what then do you judge them on? You can't say "winning is the bottom line" because both of the guys lost-- if they make it that simple then both guys just get tossed out without a second thought.

I think you should reserve judgment for how they weigh a guy winning his match until a guy actually, you know, actually wins a match. The way I see it is they're going off the other stuff because they have to.

"You should hire me because the people like me" is a fact but it also doesn't bring anything to the table. Also gives the indication that a guy might be apt to rest on his laurels rather than strive to be more. They don't want an argument for why a guy should be hired they want to see "that spark" that a guy needs to succeed in wrestling.

Also I think you're overestimating how "shoot"like Gut Check is supposed to be. To me it's 100% work. It's not treading a line like the opening segment of last week. It's not "exposing the business." It's just presenting wrestling as something that is not 100% about winning matches, but also about looking good or being innovative while doing it, and also a business that you need heart and determination and whatnot to succeed in. That's not at odds with "kayfabe" or whatever in my eyes, though-- that's how I thought wrestling always viewed itself. Commentary you hear a lot of stuff like "this kid has grit" or "this kid has a special something" now they're just bringing that to more of a focus.

Plenty. At least partially, anyway. In order from least weird to most... Toad from the Super Mario Bros Super Show, Master Chief from GameFAQs Contests, and X-Death from a prank "high school treasurer" write-in that I campaigned for (I'd elaborate but you know what I'm talking about).
