I remember some complaints online regarding none of Disney's live-action remakes being nominated for Razzies. As is they named Rambo: Last Blood the "Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel" of 2019 while leaving out stuff like Charlie's Angels and Black Christmas as well from the nominations, and nominating Godzilla: King of the Monsters for it. Ugh.

Razzies are publicity hounds. I watched Batman Begins last month and while I found Katie Holmes's performance the weak link of the cast I wouldn't say she deserved a Razzie nom and she probably only got it for being a tabloid fixture at the time.

I'm surprised Eternals didn't get nominated for anything. The Razzies go after high-profile failures as often as the absolute worst films, so I'd have thought they would have relished the chance to poke fun at the MCU. Maybe superhero fatigue isn't a thing after all.

Eternals has a RT score just south of 50%, which isn't really bad enough to merit a Worst Picture nomination. Remember Rise of Skywalker got away scot-free.

I stopped at episode 7 for now.

TBH no individual scene really stands out to me anymore, the whole thing is just rotten. Its like Nintendos Battlefield Earth or something. Though I will say that Other Ms story is Shakespearean compared to, say, Batman & Robins.

None of the ideas are necessarily bad, but what a mess this is. Unfortunate implications are only the tip of the iceberg.

That said, I'm a little shocked at the beatdown here but I shouldn't after what happened to Fusion. That game's story actually makes a lick of sense, so how about death by a million tiny plot holes? The bad scores are completely deserved, but IMO most of the problem is in the storytelling itself and not in the plot so much.

I shouldn't have made that one comment about people hating TLJ coming off as spiteful. Not because I don't believe it, but because I thought I was just trying to clear something up which this board probably knew full well. Plus to be fair it's pretty easy to understand why fans would react like that even if it is still dumb.

By Yoda acting like a "troll" I meant acting how he did in The Empire Strikes Back, especially when Luke first met him.

Pretty sure this is mostly referring to Platinum's next game going the live-service route. Ugh.

I was asking if the idea with force spirits is that they act the way a living person knows them, so Yoda's force spirit in TLJ acted like a troll because that's how Luke knew him and Anakin's force spirit could never set the truth about Vader straight to Kylo Ren because Kylo never knew Anakin.

Also Rian Johnson apparently considered having Luke consult Anakin's force spirit instead of Yoda's.

Oh sorry I was also asking in the context of Anakin not appearing as a force spirit to Kylo because Kylo never knew him. Forgot about that.

Speaking of Luke, I have a question to ask regarding The Last Jedi. Is the idea supposed to be that Yoda's force spirit acts like a troll because that's genuinely how Luke knew him?

TBH it's mostly how vindictive and spiteful a lot of people who hate TLJ act that really stands out. The movie has genuine problems, yeah, but you can't declare it terrible just because it isn't what you wanted.

This reminds me of AV Club's series about the top-grossing films of each year domestically, starting from 1960. They did make it to 2020, I haven't seen if they wrote about the new Spidey film yet.

Also I watched 1979's top domestic grosser Kramer vs. Kramer yesterday. Very well-made piece of pop entertainment.

Yes, I did watch both Schumacher Batman movies last year in honor of his passing. I regret nothing.

I want to add I genuinely think there are only three good live-action solo Batman films. Haven't seen The Dark Knight Rises since it came out though.

Yeah I think the problem is some fairly prominent YT personalities not thinking the long version of Justice League is all that much better than the theatrical cut, such as MauLer (along with some people he invited onto a podcast), Bob Chipman, and Smeghead (of Cinematic Excrement fame) due to not much of the plot being changed.

Doing them on my phone but even in that case I'd imagine you're right.

I watched another episode of The Mandalorian yesterday. To be honest I was underwhelmed by the first but I got into this one. However this series still reeks of a similar mindset that gave us the sequel trilogy where Disney is just taking some aspect of the franchise that people like and hammering hard on it. In this case, they decided they wanted to make a bounty hunter show. Whoopee.

Am I the only one who feels like out of all of Disney's Star Wars films, The Last Jedi is the one that least deserves to be blamed for derailing the whole thing? At least regarding the sequel trilogy anyway.

In hindsight it feels like the Snyder cut got good reviews due to being practically the perfect film for the time it came out. Which makes it having a sub-80% Tomatometer result look kind of damning.

haven't seen the snyder cut but i wouldn't say the original being so bad is whedon's fault. it's mostly WB's fault because after snyder stepped back, they literally thought whedon would be a good replacement for seemingly no other reason than "well, he made a superhero ensemble movie that people liked, right?" even michael bay would have been a better fit.

A lot of it is because details regarding Justice League's production mushroomed into actors from other Whedon productions speaking out against him. Not to mention lingering backlash against Age of Ultron, and apparently on set Whedon once addressed Wonder Woman as "Natasha" and was generally unpleasant to Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher.

Yeah that's mostly me being mad at Snyder cultists, similar to how I used to nickname a certain someone "Jar Jar Abrams" before I decided to knock it off.

From what I heard the plot is pretty much the same, so the reasons it would be so much better are due to more fleshed-out characterizations for the title team, a better handling of tone, and vastly improved editing. I imagine the tone issue is a big reason why it got so much better reviews than Snyder's previous DCEU work due to finding a happier medium between lightheartedness and Snyder's previous grimdark films.

I'm also growing to resent the whole idea of a "dark" Batman, between not having any problems with the campiness of the Schumacher films (they suck, yes, but not because of that) and finding the Nolan films to not be nearly as dark as they're reputed as being since they still have moments of levity and an overall idealistic tone. I saw Batman Begins yesterday, so that was the inspiration for making this topic.

Wanted to know where the board stands on this. Also not voting because I haven't seen either.

This is my main beef with Far From Home: Peter Parker dealing with having to become an Iron Man successor is... dumb? It's much, MUCH bigger than the "Peter vs Spidey" dynamic. He shouldn't have to, Tony is much more immensely irresponsible for putting him in that position, it is ridiculous that every other character goes along with it. It turns out Peter can only ever have one (1) responsible adult in his life and then they fucking die.

The stuff about him abdicating all superhero responsibility and Aunt May packing him his suit is good though. But that's why I framed it the way I did. He has to learn about accepting power and responsibility but he doesn't learn how to actually use it because the rest is him putting out his own fire.

Not the first time I've heard this. Can't say I put two and two together when I saw Far From Home.

Ocarina was being anti-voted to oblivion in its matches. Even Suikoden II scored a decent number on OoT that contest.

If anything it's more impressive Ocarina managed to triple Suikoden II. That game is like everything this site loves, there's only so poorly a highly-acclaimed PS1 RPG is going to do in these contests.
