Okay in such a contest what would win a match between GTA and Uncharted?

Stupid question: If another series contest is held, would Grand Theft Auto be able to reverse its loss to Warcraft?

Yeah I might just be picking the absolute worst of the worst, but comic book fans tend to get mad when a traditionally white character is played by a non-white actor. It got to the point where Michael B. Jordan could file people complaining about his casting in Fant4stic under the same umbrella even though there were other reasons people were apprehensive about it like him not even having to audition.

Having said that, I didn't bring up Nerdrotic. I already explained even I don't go there.

That was not the intention but okay.

The jab at comic book fans was largely due to stuff like their tendency to complain about absolutely everything.

Hawkeye episode 6 was win all around.

Comic book fans are absolutely the worst. Also being honest, I didn't mean my comment about liking how Kate is both capable and still vulnerable to be a jab at any character in particular and it was meant more as a general statement. I actually do have a problem with bland movie heroines as of late though, and the obvious suspects are far from the worst offenders IMO.

Honestly I realized the whole idea of "Get woke, go broke" probably comes from comic book fans who extrapolate their medium's trends onto much bigger and more mainstream media like video games and film. It's pretty clear that's not the case and yet they'll continue to raise hell. I've largely ignored Nerdrotic because his gimmick is even more blatantly obvious than it is for others and his video titles are full of clickbait.

I just find the narratives these people peddle as being utterly ridiculous and borne out of horribly bigoted mindsets. It took me until today to realize I couldn't think of many white male heroes still alive in the MCU because I don't typically pay much attention to that kind of thing, which is also why the politically-motivated backlash towards the Star Wars sequel trilogy took me by surprise. Even otherwise though the film industry is so predominantly white and male that complaining about there being not enough white male heroes comes off to me as being a completely new development with no past precedent, and makes it seem like these people can dish it out but they can't take it. The amount of parallels all this has to real-world politics is also insane but them's the breaks. I still feel like this is being driven by angry comic book fans and Star Wars fans who simply hate how the trends that supposedly destroyed their media are spreading to the MCU and I freaking loathe how sore Star Wars fans in particular are to the point it affects their judgement of completely different franchises.

(that being said, I do understand that the sequel trilogy would have been very contentious even without people bent out of shape over identity politics, but that's not a discussion for here)

I was joking, didn't actually know about that! That's why I put it in spoilers. I did know about Nerdrotic but the amount of videos of his I've fully watched is almost certainly in the single digits.

Anyway watched episode 5 last night. Yelena FTW, otherwise the episode mostly just came across as characters reacting to what happened in the previous one. Not that there's anything really wrong with that.

Female character boost. Amazing.

Metroid's dork age wasn't enough to derail Samus, meanwhile RE6 ruined Resident Evil characters in these contests.

Samus could definitely take that now, yeah.

Which would mean taking it over The Last of Us and Nier: Automata at a second thought. Oh wait.

Why do we keep underestimating Metroid games in contests again? People seriously thought Super Metroid was going to lose to a Wii game in 2015.

I think Hillary Clinton would have been a better president than even Biden but the best way I've been able to rationalize Trump's election victory in 2016 was people just being sick and tired of Hillary so I'm going to have to say no.

Saw Hawkeye episode 4, well this is definitely building up to something. Not trying to dance around spoilers or anything, but this really feels like the "the plot thickens" episode. 2 & 3 almost feel like filler.

Also oh no Hawkeye was getting beaten up by two women and the show's main character is also female, social justice agendas ruining MCU confirmed.

Also at the risk of embarrassing myself further, what I meant to get across earlier was that I liked how the Black Widow movie finally gave Natasha her time in the sun at last and that helped me realize how cool it was to stick with this character throughout the entire MCU (regardless of me not having seen a lot of the earlier films). I REALLY should not have framed that in the way I did, unfortunately that's where my perverted mind went first. For all the BW movie did wrong I at least felt like it did that well which is what I meant to get across. Yes the way I wrote it originally is the way I thought it out, but suffice to say it clearly didn't come out the way I wanted it to.

This is the same studio who has bungled up their superhero franchise something fierce.

Switch is probably getting props just because of Metroid Dread.

Watching Hawkeye with family when we're eating or dad's busy (since he's not into Marvel stuff). Anyway I still like the approach of spacing things out more.

I just don't like the idea that the Dark Knight Trilogy worked because of being grimdark. Especially since the DCEU stumbled out of the gate so badly precisely BECAUSE all it did was copy the surface aspects of the Dark Knight Trilogy I mentioned without understanding why they worked there in the first place. Good for the Snyderverse fans though.

Helps that the director of Iron Man himself said the success of Batman Begins inspired the more serious direction of Iron Man in contrast to contemporary Marvel Comics films of the time like Ghost Rider and the Tim Story Fantastic Four films.

I think those games genuinely didn't get enough nominations to make the bracket whereas all the weakass indie games had devoted fans who nominated them in. It's like how Resident Evil 5 barely made the GOTD1 field and then turned out to be one of the strongest games in the bracket anyway, except there it was coasting on recency.

Yeah I meant more in the way they both try to make superheroes believable in a more realistic context. I wouldn't classify, say, the '80s and '90s Batman films as such.

Also the more I think about it the more I realize the MCU is basically The Dark Knight Trilogy without excising fantastical elements from the comics and being less blatantly grimdark. If that makes any sense.

Saw Hawkeye episode 3. Really digging the cast of this show so far. And I don't mean to be that guy, but it's nice seeing a heroine who's portrayed as capable but still not able to handle quite everything herself.

I'm a guy who likes Terminator 1 more than any Matrix movie and any Star Wars movie aside from The Empire Strikes Back.

Saw Hawkeye episode 2, wasn't as keen on it as the previous one but I dug Hailee Steinfeld's chemistry with Jeremy Renner. Though honestly she works well with everyone, otherwise the episode just felt like busywork.

Other M's plot is just generally a mess even putting aside sexism. Fusion at least has a clear through-line and the plot works for what it is.

At least people are generally civil when it comes to discussions of Other M though. What I take issue with is that based on how people make it out to be you'd think sexism is the main problem with the game's plot when, uh, it's not. Though at least it's understandable in this case due to Samus's status as a female gaming icon if still regrettable, and there IS sexism aplenty in the game so...ouch.

Bit of a stupid question, but how did Peter Parker never happen on the criminal underworld as depicted by the Netflix series in Homecoming? Seeing how he only dealt with small crimes.

I mean it was groundbreaking for its time, and is unironically still a Top 3 movie featuring Superman, but it really doesnt hold up to modern superhero movies, nostalgia aside.

Not necessarily complaining, and I get why it wouldn't hold up compared to modern superhero movies for someone. I saw the movie for the first time (or at least first time since I was very young anyway, I used to have the DVD) last summer and left very impressed even if it was pretty hokey at times. But I'm a bit of a sucker for '70s movies and kind of prefer the 1978 Superman's approach to most newer superhero films.

At least this is a good way to get us speculating lol.

I feel like such a fanservice-heavy Spider-Man movie was always going to be huge unless it was objectively a dumpster fire.

I was mostly concerned that The Dark Knight wouldn't be considered a "pure" superhero movie.

V for Vendetta is a comic book movie, but is it really a superhero movie?

I don't like the idea that "pure" superhero movies have to be distinguished. Though that's mostly because I felt I wasn't into superhero movies until I realized all the storytelling potential they carry.

Saw the first episode of Hawkeye and liked it overall. Looks like this might become my favorite of the Disney+ Marvel shows.

TBH when I watched Homecoming and Guardians 2 I just wound up tuning out the whole time. I'd need to re-watch both films to gauge my opinion on them better, but I'm more interested in re-visiting the latter due to Kurt Russell's presence and how many have spoken of the movie as one of the most underrated MCU installments as time passes.

Maybe I should watch it again, but I don't have much desire to do so.

I have to be a weird guy who prefers the "individual" films over the team-ups.

I hate how I keep embarrassing myself in these topics. I really want to get more into this particular franchise but...well I guess "really" want to isn't right, but I just feel so appreciative of it. I was half afraid I'd find Winter Soldier overhyped thinking it might have been liked so much largely for its timely subject matter and atypical nature (or at least how everyone keeps touting it as a "political thriller" as if it's heir apparent to Three Days of the Condor or something) for a superhero film but now I'm starting to feel less so. Anyway I have fond memories of both The First Avenger and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid which I saw for the first time last year so that's as good motivation as any.

Also want to ask if anyone in this topic has seen Marathon Man, since that's supposedly one of the big inspirations for the Winter Soldier movie. I saw it last year and really liked it, although it's not quite French Connection level as far as '70s thrillers are concerned. Way stronger spy film than Black Widow though, yuck.

Yeah TBH I'm sick and tired of the whole audience vs. critics mentality. They have always been a very broad guideline at best and nothing more, but also nothing less.

I'm also just personally fascinated by the whole fiasco surrounding this game, especially considering it was greenlit on Keiji Inafune's watch (lol) and seemingly went out of its way to alienate original series fans while attempting to chase a new audience who didn't care. Stupid GamesRadar argued that old Dante would have been laughed at had he debuted in 2013 instead of 2001 - even if that's true, it completely ignores the original built up fans who were into that stuff and would have gladly paid for more of it. As Devil May Cry 5 would go on to prove.

At least no one so far has gotten sore about the game getting good reviews from critics.

I haven't seen a marvel movie since like iron man 2 but I randomly saw this tonight on a date. So the fan service with the old spider man cast made my night. Is it just me or is Zendaya a bad actress though? She felt so flat and it's weird that she's relegated to comic relief for 90% of the movie

I wasn't a fan of her in Homecoming but somehow took more to her in Far From Home. Then again I didn't like Homecoming much to begin with.
